Not the best game but we had enough chances to get a win.
Klopps subs and choices really are baffling at the moment, Milner at right back didn't make any sense at all, matip and Gomez out to the right or leaving Trent on made more sense.

I really think a major issue with our play was the tactical tweak last season bringing Trent in field.
It leaves salah more isolated, easier to mark and further away from the goal, it seems to have given Trent some inflated opinion of his own ability which is breeding a real sense of arrogance.
The outside movement of the midfielder leaves us much more exposed, especially fabinho who is already struggling for form.
We looked far more dangerous with salah cutting in, Trent overlapping and the midfield either occasionally under or over lapping Trent or even supporting from inside to recycle and switch the play.

So you think that the tactical tweak that almost won us the quadruple was nonsense. I agree that it's not working currently, but that's more because of how out of form most pf our players are. Also, I don't get the narrative that Trent has arrogance or something. I mean he's always humble in his interviews. And even if he does have a bit of arrogance, which top player in the world doesn't. Hell, Salah always says he wants to be the best. Call him out on his bad form, but to equate it to some hypothetical personality issue is really not needed, in my opinion.

If its any consolation, City drew and needed bad officiating to get a result at all. We will be fine and I still see us challenging for the league. We will hit purple patch as soon as the squad is full fit again. Stay positive guys, not over yet.

Agree completely Alex, that seems to be what is killing us more than anything else.

KopArmy, i’m sorry mate but none of that is logically sound. Why do people keep talking about the quadruple that we didn’t win as if that proves anything? We weren’t perfect, we weren’t even as good as the Liverpool side that won the Champions League and the League. We had a deeper squad and had decent luck of the draw. We were not a better side than our previous ones and the team had a lot of flaws, hell even league winning sides have weaknesses that need to be improved upon. Just because you win doesn’t mean you are perfect, and to suggest that makes you immune from criticism is a logical fallacy.

We didn’t beat any of the other top four sides, we didn’t score in 3 cup finals, and we dropped points from winning positions 5 or 6 times, which is before you even consider the amount of times we relinquished control of games and got away with it. Most of the players failed to hit the personal standards they set in previous seasons, and towards the end we consistently went a goal down in games before trying to recover. A lot was wrong with the side last season and you could tell that from watching the games and paying attention to detail, not just strawmanning and citing the ‘quadruple’ point when we didn’t even win it!

On Trent, have you never heard the expression that ‘actions speak louder than words’? I don’t care how nice he’s seemed in interviews from a few years ago, I can see with my eyes what his body language is like and his attitude is not up to scratch right now. Every single facet of his game is lazy, from his passing, his decision making, his runs, his defensive application, everything is off. We don’t need a player to tell us how much they care, we need them to show it to us, otherwise you end up in the situation United or Arsenal were in where post match Twitter apologies are deemed good enough.

Yeah we did nearly win the quadruple but that was through others players shining, the bulk of the good performances that won us tight games and got us those vital points etc was through mane, Diaz and have no a consistently available Thiago. Since that tactical switch and the focus on that side of the play mo’s form fell off a cliff and I think Trent finished with roughly the same number of assists as he was on at around Xmas.

Maybe a bad year will wake our sleepwalking owners up to the fact that if you stop investing in the team you end up going backwards.
