Henderson needs to be a squad player next season, the way Milner was last season. Otherwise it will be another unproductive season. He’s been great but when your legs go and you’re playing in a pressing midfield, it’s a recipe fir disaster, as it was last season. Give the team captaincy to VVD, and Hendo can remain club captain.

I agree fully on Hendo. Not sure on Virgil as a captain but that is definitely who it would be if/ when Hendo is dropped.

More nonsense. Sorry mate but I am quite sure Henderson will be contributing a lot more than chilling on the bench and will do just fine his legs certainly haven’t gone and he still press’s up their with the best of them.

I think Hendo moving into the Milner role is about right. Milner still contributed loads last season albeit mostly from the bench. I don't see anything wrong with suggesting that Hendo could do the same this season as well, especially with the signing of Macallister and another MF.

Ali should be made the captain!

Str8talker - No one said Henderson will just be “chilling on the bench”; it was opined that he take over Milner’s role in the team. This means starting some cup and Europa League games, coming on to see vital games out, and helping the staff to manage the squad and maintain standards. He will still be an important part of the club, but he simply can’t be starting in the Premier League for us anymore. His value to the team was always his energy, pressing and leadership, the former two of which have seriously declined in the last 2 years. Henderson’s technical quality has never measured up to his athleticism, something that should be more obvious than ever to all.
The Milner role as Klopp’s foremost general is exactly where Henderson needs to be now.

After watching the recent England Internationals, Hendo was significantly better (definitely more productive) than the 100m+ guy playing alongside him. Still plenty to offer.

{Ed025's Note - if you take them red goggles off RA your eyesight will improve significantly mate..

Hendo will start a lot less games next season, IMO so I think the Milner role will b his role as many have said. As for him getting sold or run outta town by Klopp? Don’t hold your breathe.

{Ed025's Note - i think the traffic cop may have another year in him oli, hes been a good skipper imo but very limited as a player these days mate..

Fully agree, Ed25. He’s not that guy anymore, mate and that’s not an insult on him. Time will defeat us all.

I think the same goes for Fab as well and I think he has one more ride left in him too BUT for him, we need to get legs around him in midfield to help him should we not be able to bring in a DM.

Hendo can only run in straight lines. His legs have been gone since the derby in Feb 21. To be able to press you need to be agile. Hendo can’t press or tackle. Don’t confuse pressing with running and looking shouty and purposeful.

Is it still a case that the players vote on the captains and they do it for every season?

Maybe it's time for Trent to be captain? Would fire him up even more I reckon.
