But Trent isn’t a 6. So he’d have to learn that role which will take time.

I feel sorry for him because he’s being moved here there and everywhere whereas he just needs to be given a position/ tactical role and allowed time to master it.

Actually I don’t think Trent is bad in the middle from a defensive point of view. He reads the game fairly well, the defensive struggles appear to me because the team is out of shape and he is so far up the pitch most of the time there is far too much ground to cover and the whole back line is spread about as thin as my hair.

Jesus, Trent as a DM? he's a liability as a right back. If he's switched anywhere it should be to a proper player maker in midfield and get a proper right back. Steve Wonder knows how to play against Trent.

I'd prefer Trent in a right sided 8, anywhere that's away from defensive duties, just let him play in through balls and crosses all day, and the odd wonder goal.

Johnzandt, the whole "Trent is a liability" is just stale talking points, man. Was he a liability at the Shed on Sun? IMO, he wasn't he was there on the cover tracking runners and his game intelligence to read danger and snuff it out was solid, IMO. Coukd he have done better on the goal? Maybe but that is on the whole defence not pushing up as a block. Now can he play the DM role? We will have tp see.

I agree Trent to midfield but alongside a more traditional midfielder like Jones, Thiago or Macca. If we get a proper experienced DM then play him at 8 IMO.

I get the arguments against but he gets exposed so much because he is playing 2 roles?

I mean, I think he would be better in midfield and then have Bradley and Gomez fight it out/ rotate for the rb slot - we look more organised in a 4-3-3 than this hybrid thing, though it did produce results at the end of last season in fairness

Holding midfield or Hendo's spot as rcm? Who honestly knows, but surely him playing as a cdm would be better than nobody playing there? I mean Mac and Dom are better as 8s. Mac played the double pivot with Caceido so can certainly drop back when needed but is not disciplined enough to start as cdm - he is better further forward

If we did this, our starting midfield would be Mac, Trent and Dom - backed up by Jones, Bacjetic, Elliott and Thiago - that's not bad is it? I mean we all want a quality cdm but it's tough going getting one it seems and would mean one of Mac, Trent or Dom being on the bench

Think a few of the posters were saying that if we did this then we could use the 111m we bid for Caceido to land an absolute quality cb - that is surely worth thinking about?

The return to 4-3-3 would also see us get the best out of Robertson. I mean come on, the guy is one of the best attacking lbs the Premiership has seen - is he still top with assists? - and this new system is killing him. Some fans are actually saying he needs replaced too?

Surely as a team we should play to our strengths?
Robertson is one of those strengths - love him attacking and supporting Diaz etc and his defending is pretty decent too. Another strength is the quality passing that Trent has - would playing him as a cdm not give him the opportunity to spray some of those long balls about?

Look we might do it and realise this season that his best position is rcm and not cdm but it is his first full season in midfield so these things will happen surely - I think he should play full time in midfield and can see the argument made for a cdm role as I have explained above

Would also get the best out of Robertson and give both Bradley and Gomez a chance. Bradley is young and needs the opportunities to see if he can make it - same thing happened to Trent, given the opportunity and took it. Gomez also needs minutes, I think he is a confidence player and his confidence is shattered after a few dodgy games in cb last season. He has performed better at rb in fairness so would regular games there, rotating with Bradley, help him improve his game and return to the form he showed a couple of seasons ago?

Just worth exploring lads in my opinion.

No Trent cannot be a 6. He will be best suited to Hendo’s old role on the right of the midfield 3 in the normal 433 formation. Unfortunately it seems we have ditched that formation which is madness in my opinion.
