Very enjoyable read that, and pretty well on the money.
Especially in regards to the "Manc in the middle".

Gotta agree with all of that again. I can tell you put so much time into these. I read hoping I could add a point or two extra so I can seem really smart to other posters but you leave no room for that? they really are excellent Ed. Best reviews by far on the internet and beyond.

{Ed001's Note - thank you Davey! I really appreciate that mate.}

Bruno Guimeares has been throwing himself at challenges for sometime now. this isn't the first game. New castle fans have been saying about it for a while now. I know the pge likes him to bits but he is becoming a nuisance for me at least.

My take on it, and yes, it's my conspiracy theory, but the fact that the ref didn't send any NU players off is because if their well publicized injury crisis. they are on their bare bones wrt that squad

Cheating / Corruption, whatever you want to call it. but that is what I believe. Even the players reactions were evident that the ref was making the wrong decisions.

VVD played Isak onside. he was cautious this time around as he was sent off clipping the same player in the last match. I understand why VVD was hesistant to make a tackle on Isak.
The move started with Gordon skinning two liverpool players to set up Isak. That shouldn't have happened in the first place and then Konate had no idea where Isak was.

Great review Ed001. Got to say I feel a bit unimpressed with Gravenberch. He is young and I’m hoping he will get better as he has talent but that desire all the other midfielders have doesn’t seem to be present in him. We have a lot of midfielders and it’s competitive to be starting so you’d think he would be trying his utmost best to prove he should start.

For me he’s the last midfielder I’d pick for our eleven on form.

Ed01, you killed it on this one, man. Bravo, sir. You've pretty mucovered the whole ground and then some. I do think for their first goal, all VVD had to do was take 2 steps up and Isak would have been a yard offside cos there was only one place Gordon was going to put that pass and he had a lot of time to see it before it happened. Ali could have done better too BUT VVD could have stopped the chance from the source, IMO.

As for Trent on him hitting the bar, I've seen it several times and I maintain he was trying to score esp. if you watch the play from behind him where his body shape and foot movement on the strike swerves the ball outside and then in and but the bend stopped and the ball hit the post. Great technique and on another day, he scores and he wins goal of the season.

As for Eddie Howe, I always thought he was a stop gap anyway cos Newcastle are trying to go big and win big and Eddie Howe was never going to get them there (they wanted Unai Emery initially, mind you) so he is under immense pressure and he knows it hence, the crap coming out of his mouth and his allies in the media like Alan Shearer and other PL pundits giving him cover after the game. Deplorable manager, always has been.

{Ed001's Note - I don't think Trent was trying to score because of his reaction afterwards. He acted like he made a mess of it, which suggests he tried to cross and got it wrong.}

excellent Read Ed, And a happy new year to all Ed's.
i am with you regarding Gomez its all encompassing, i find myself shouting hit it even if he isn't in the best position. Its a shame we didn't score 6 or 7 as Eddie Howe is a horrible manager who was unable to see or admit his team were battered. YNWA.

{Ed001's Note - I am glad I am not the only one. I am even finding myself urging the other players to pass it to him in the hope he can turn into the real Ronaldo and run past the team and slot home. Just so want him to score.}

Gomez just can't score any old goal now though. That would be a disaster.

It has to be a thunderbolt from outside the box winner against city in the league.

Also Joe is so cool, I fear he will barely celebrate when he does score. Square Tomato if you are around, please get in Joe's ear to go bleeding mental with the celebration on that first goal because we all will.

It's great to see him having such a good season.

Diaz had arguably his best game in a red shirt. Certainly his best this season. Jones next best and showed he can do all midfield jobs. As Klopp said Jones needs to believe in himself more.

The willing Gomez to shoot thing is starting to remind me of Rob Jones when it became kind of a running joke. The crowd would yell shoot and before he even made contact would scream Waaaaayyyyy. Some players are just destined to never score I'm afraid.

Good read Ed001. What do you make of Gomez at the minute? I've been pretty impressed with how he's been playing, especially as he's effectively out of position. Long may it continue, could save us a heap of cash!

{Ed001's Note - he has been excellent, most of this season in fact he has been.}

Excellent review as always.

I wasn't aware of Jota's love for FIFA. I do recall the same issue apparently affecting David James' concentration in the 90s though.

Difference is, Jota scores goals as opposed to trying to stop them.

I know these lads don't have the same freedoms and releases most of us allow ourselves and playing video games helps with concentration, speed of decision making, higher brain function and judgement (it has been proven to do so), so it is possibly something else affecting him.

To be fair, I hate Anthony Taylor as much as the next red but fair play to him for seeing the contact on Jota and giving the pen.

At first look I didn’t see the contact and felt sure the ref was booking Jota for a dive and the way VAR work I don’t think they would’ve overturned it either.

I still maintain on that incident the touch on him was after he’d already gone past the keeper so he wouldn’t have seen what part of the keeper clipped him. He thinks he’s past him and scoring then feels a clip on his ankle, it probably shocked him and threw him off both physically and mentally.

The vitriol he’s had to endure since is unacceptable especially when the keeper admitted he clipped him and it’s a pen.

Love it Ed mate, absolute quality read as per usual.

What a game mate? what a game! more of that please Liverpool, my god that was an exciting game. If we continue like that we'll win more than 1 trophy this season I have no doubts about it.

One thing I was just thinking about, with Salah off for a while obviously we're going to miss him but part of me is a bit excited about it. What I mean by that is, we're going to see some of the others stepping up, I want to see more of Gakpo and I think it's going to be interesting to see how it all works without Salah. We have quality thoughout and I believe we can still get the job done.

Nunez, he concerns me mate, I just want the poor lad to start scoring! once he does we're laughing but how longs a piece of string? fingers crossed for him because I do believe once he starts getting his confidence after scoring a few we're in for a treat.

We have a very exciting team and have a lot to look forward to.

Hope you have had a good day Ed1 mate, thanks for writing that up, as always it's very much appreciated.

{Ed001's Note - cheers Saloe always good to hear from you mate.}
