Hi Eds, do we have any interest in Donyell Malen?
BBC seem to think we do and trawling through old posts I can see rumours linking him to us going back a couple of seasons. Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Doyell Malen (RW/LW) Seen as surplus by Borussia Dortmund are looking to make changes to the squad. They quoted Newcastle €60M in the summer. The player has made it clear he would be open to a move back to Arsenal. Team Mino have also offered him to Spurs, Liverpool and Manchester United - and will continue to look for a buyer.}

Possible Salah replacement?

@lambo - we are going to be saying that about every tight sided forward (or anybody else who has strayed onto the right side of the pitch) that gets a mention in the gossip columns / social media until next July. Personally I’m holding fir until AFCON, when things should start to warm up.

True but the only way we would be signing a right sided forward would be as a replacement for Salah. The guy is never injured and never seems to need a break. I would rather we could keep Salah for a few more years but I do think he will be gone next summer.

With what Salah is showing on the field thus far this year, an extension is not such a crazy idea. But fine, I agree that the lure of money will see probably moving on next summer.

I agree with you - Salah will most likely be going next summer. I think 5hat there will be new names thrown into the pot throughout the season and that there’ll be even more after AFCON because there are always new ‘the next best thing’ after the big tournaments.

From my perspective I lean towards the idea that we can’t replace him ‘like for like” so perhaps we will tweak our system and perhaps look for a slightly different type / style of player. Given the club being a lot better at not ‘leaking’ their targets these days (Diaz, Gakpo, Szoboszlai, Endo) nothing would come as a surprise these days, which is a good thing imho.

Replace Salah with Malen? Are you serious or having a laugh? Let's hope Salah stays for 3-4 more seasons then with these extremely average players linked as his replacements. Malen is no better than Doak.

Doak is 17 - he’s just a kiddie. @Mizu, it depends also what you mean by replace of course. Would you sell him for £200-250m and buy Mbappe? I would.

Want to be clear. I do not want to replace Salah whatsoever. I would much rather Salah stays. I also agree. Malen is not fit to lace Salah's boots.

I'm just stating that the only way we will be signing a RW player would be as a replacement for Salah.

The fact people can't grasp that a Salah replacement needs to be left footed if we continue to have our wingers cut in is mad. Maybe when we have a forward evolution like the midfield we might go to having right on right, left on left to support Nunez, but that makes the overlapping role of TAA and Robertson redundant.

A few players I think would work well on the right for us are:

Nicolas Gonzalez - Fiorentina
Marcus Edwards - Sporting CP
Taki Kubo - Real Sociedad
Leroy Sane (wildcard) Bayern Munich.

Not sure if you have any opinions on those players eds?
