When you are caught at pace the slightest touch can take you off balance. I don't believe Jota would waste the chance of scoring the goal himself. I can see why people think it is not a pen but doesn't the offending GKs comments put an end to the speculation?!

Love jota but he definitely went down far too easy. funny thing is I'd rather have him than any other forward in our team with a 1 on 1 with the keeper, surprised he went down because would have scored.

No it won't MetroRed because unfortunately we live in a society that no longer accepts facts.
Some people have their own agenda so will spew bull manure even if the truth is glaringly obvious.

It's a very valid point . The rules say that a GK fouling an opposing player, with the ball, in the penalty box is a penalty. And the present rules are such that if you even blow air at a striker and he falls over, then it is a foul. The goalkeeper has admitted that he fouled Jota. Therefore, it was a penalty. Now pondering over what Jota could have done if he had remained upright is all fine and good (I don't mind debate one little bit) but at the end of the day it was always going to be a penalty at a minimum.

Well there's a lot being made that Jota took a step before going down. I'd argue (on facts! ) that many a player has taken AT LEAST one step sometimes up to THREE before going down. So this is FAR from being a precedent but the way it's being talked about in the media you'd think Jota robbed the keeper's wallet as he went down. Nothing to see here, it happens EVERY WEEK and nothing will change.

{Ed025's Note - the only thing he robbed RF is himself...of dignity mate, it was embarrassing..

It was a penalty by the letter of the law. there is nowhere in the law that covers all the other stuff nor is there a threshold as to when or after how many paces or steps is allowed until you drop to the ground after being contacted. That is at the ref's discretion and the ref awarded the penalty. Im over it, personally.

Ed if you read my other posts you'll see I'm not in agreement w what Jota did. Just saying the pundits pick on this incident to the nth degree and i don't understand that when it's happening every week probably more than one game. The Villa pen against burnley was far worse than what Jota did as there was NO contact yet no question it was a pen. Apparently. And that was for 3 points. Ours wasn't. Burnley in that instance were robbed of a deserved point. Always appreciate your opinion! ?.

{Ed025's Note - i think we all know its not just about Jota RF, its about the direction the game is going which is very worrying mate, poor officiating, VAR, simulation and alligations of corruption are talked about more than the actual football these days, a lot of us are questioning our appetite for the game now and a lot of it is down to the win at all cost culture which exists in the game, it seems that all is fair in love and football these days and cheating in any of its guises tolerated and just seen as part of the game...and thats sad..

Yep is it by design tho or by chance? Get muppets like Wenger talking about getting rid of time wasting and alas the changes they've made add loads of time at the end. If we got rid of play acting and put a limit on VAR (keep playing while they are looking maybe) then we wouldn't be adding all this time on.

I commended Kavanagh last night for booking Eze and also for continuing play when Clyne went down like a pack of cards in a hurricane. Refs too often stop the game when they should play on. We all know the rest.

And now for some deep breaths.
