Good evening Ed002,

I assume you are like me and looking forward to the transfer window closing? I am sick of all the online guesswork with who we are planning on bidding on. The squad is good but should add another DM and CB.

If you wouldn't mind and I know you have told us where interest lies but do you think at this moment in time it will be Gravenberch or no one at all?

My opinion is we will end this window as we are now with no more signings. I think we should take a chance on Kone if he would be open to the move.
Thank you for your time Ed002.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool are keen on Garenberch - I have explained this for months.}

Caicedo bid = PR stunt.

Wake, I ve been as critical as most about how this window has been managed. I always think the most likely reason is the correct one in my eyes nine times out of ten. I think there's indecision behind the scenes, lack of leadership, lack of direction from the very top, lack of preparation on the player recruitment and identifying players. Everything I ve seen in the window points to this being the most likely scenario.

But placing the highest bid for a player when there was a deadline being a PR stunt? Let's be honest, the far more likely answer is that we wanted the player. And then Lavia. We just completely messed the whole situation up because we have dithering unprepared people running transfers this summer.

Hi Teddy ?.

Davey, as reported by The Athletic, Caicedo was never even willing to discuss personal terms with Liverpool. There was never an agreement with the him. He only wanted Chelsea. He conveyed the same to Klopp.

The question arises, why the heck we even bid without getting a nod from him?

The Caicedo bid was well out of left field. I'm glad we missed him don't like that sort of money being spashed about. From bargain hunting and nickel and diming saints to British transfer record I don't think anyone saw coming. I like the Endo signing I think he's a good fit for us. Still like to see a CB and another DM. But if not I think we have enough to get us to Jan and see where we are.

Hi Ed002,

Appreciate the response. I am not denying you have continued to mention Gravenberch as a player we are interested in. We know Liverpool have been interested in many players but they don’t always take it any further than discussions.

What I was asking was do you believe that we are looking to him as the only option now and if we don’t sign him the interest in others previously mentioned has now dissipated?

{Ed002's Note - They will not have that thought process.}

Ok fair enough Ed002.

Thanks for the response.

Hi @Ron. ??.

Number 1 reason, Michael Edwards has left.

It would have been some PR stunt if the player said yes to moving to us ?
Seriously, a £115,000 million PR stunt? Some gamble!

We need players that start and improve our first eleven now.

@WetheReds, as disclosed by Brighton (you know, the club that Caicedo used to play for), Caicedo was open to moving to us initially but u-turned at the last minute in hopes of getting Chelsea to bid higher and pay him more. Between Brighton and The Athletic, I would say the former is a better source of information than the latter.

{Ed001's Note - the Athletic has long since devolved into a clickbait site sadly.}

Do we really think Liverpool would bid 115m as a PR stunt? That’s a rather risky approach to take if Caceido said yes and we didn’t want him/ couldn’t afford him. I can’t believe some of the nonsense people come out with to suit their FSG out agenda ?

As an aside, I’m a lot happier with us playing in the 40-75m signings (Macca, Szobo, Diaz type area) than betting the farm on someone like Caceido. Money like that deserves a generational talent like Bellingham IMO, but call me old fashioned.

SGRed, couldn't agree more. I like our model of looking for value.

I love that, after messing with other clubs for years (Willian, anyone? ), we made the Chavs overpay for Caicedo and Lavia by 10s of millions of pounds and pushed their wages up as well.

Take the win, dudes.

I don't think people understand what PR entails. The Caicedo saga has only brought negative PR on the club, I'm really not sure why we would do that on purpose.

Spot on Thomas. A failed transfer negotiation is a negative outcome. There is no way to positively spin the failed Caicedo and Lavia efforts. The truth has to be that we did want one or both at the time. We seem to have never had a hope with Caicedo anyway so that made the club look inept in making a bid for a player that then could not be convinced to move. Lavia probably could have been signed if we moved quicker but it was mishandled throughout considering he was a top target and then became it turned to two rejections in quick succession. that's very bad for PR. I think there is no way to deny that the club made mistakes but can't agree they deliberately made them as there is no logical reason to do that.

I agree, I think the plan was always to bring Lavia in and let him share minutes with Fabinho, then move Fab on next season. We ended up getting a decent deal for Fab and took it, then realised we would need someone more senior than Liavia to come in if he had to be first choice straight away.

In hindsight, we should've wrapped up Lavia and then brought Endo in as well and not bothered with Caicedo. But that's easy to say now.

Spot on, Davey Sulls and SGRed. Absolute waffle. A PR stunt? Really, people think such guys who run money at a multi-billion pound entity like any top 6 PL club is, engages in such baseless and time-consuming shananigans? So the Brighton CEO who came out on Talksport to confirm all that LFC did to sign Caicedo is also in on the PR stunt? And these people come out saying they are the club's TW is a joke yet are not embarrassed about engaging in empty waffle like this. Now that's the real joke here.

And like someone said what if Caicedo had said, "You know what? I'm off to LFC cos they want me and bid for me"? What would have happened there. I'll wait for @We Are The Reds to tell us.

Been a long old window this.

Why didn't we bid £115m for Bellingham. ?.
