It is all very well selling Sterling, but I for one would never sell a player to a top four team. You are just strengthening your rivals. He should have been sold to a team outside the top four or to a European team. If Liverpool's philosophy is to develop players and sell them on then the future looks bleak.

Was selling Torres to Chelsea making them stronger? You can never tell how a players career pans out. For all we know Sterling's might never get off the ground.

Or merely populating their already expensive bench

Thing is mate I just can't see him being an improvement on what they already have. We already have players ready to step into his role, and have strengthened significantly in this window. The money from his sale will make back some of the money we've spent and we'll continue to strengthen as well. In this case I'd say we can make an exception. The kid has potential, but I'm not so sure he'll reach that at city

No club baring city would even pay close to 40 million for Sterling.

Disagree! City are not in our weight class so don't know what selling to them will change. We got the dough and the boy gets his wish. Win - win for everyone.

It's better business for us than city so by selling him we are strengthening ourselves while weakening city's transfer budget.
In an ideal world anyway.

You can't sell to a team outside the top 4 or to a European team if they don't want him. We got rid of him that's the best outcome for us and I couldn't care less what happens to him in the future

Theone, please tell me what the bids were from the teams outside the top 4 and other euro teams?? Don't think there was any? Selling a world class player to a rival is an issue (RVP to man utd). Selling an overpriced brat with a stinking but decent potential is nit so much an issue.
