Depay has the talent. But his application and understanding of the game is awful. He needs a hands on coach to work with him one on one to improve these aspects of the game, and only then will the talent materialize. Otherwise u lot have got a dud on your hands.

I agree Indian mate, he is on control of his destiny, he has talent but needs application.

Same could be said for Mane?

Look mate, contrary to this weird belief that I just constantly use only stats to judge players, it is total nonsense. I honestly don't know where it came from. I've seen people on here trying to create a matrix on who is our most important player based 100% on stats, and they still get less stick than me for it.

I only use stats sparingly and only ever relevant ones to the discussion. I always present them with a subjective opinion and analysis of the stats. I don't just say "Mane got double figures so he is great". I don't need to justify my knowledge of the game to you, or anyone so if this falls on deaf ears, whatever.

I said 75% because it is easier to type than a quarter, or 1 in 4 etc. Although I wouldn't expect a Devil to be capable of maths, so I apologise for the lack of clarity ;) You can overlook the occasional fortunate goal, but Depay was constantly fortunate.

My point was, that a good majority of Depay's goals were rather lucky and largely down to poor goal keeping. And I mean really bad goal keeping. You can argue till the cows come home that "oh but you need to get in the position to make your own luck", but you're fighting a losing battle. Making your own luck and having it handed to you is something you only see by watching games. Which is why i'm baffled you've brought my apparent use of stats in to this. If all i cared about was stats rather than watching the game, i would be arguing Depay is great, not the opposite. 20+ goals at 21 years old is great on paper. But i have actually seen him play and can therefore pass judgement instead of just quoting his amount of goals. Which is ironically all that you have done to defend him as a player! You only have to look at how many goals people like Jozy Altidore have scored in that league to determine the quality of defenders and keepers.

You claim you are not blindly supporting him and that I use stats. Then go on to quote his goal return (which made up your entire argument) and claim I'm wrong about his ability. So you need to make up your mind buddy. Depay is bang average. All clubs make mistakes. We signed Assaidi because he looked good in the Dutch league. It happens. Let this one go mate, because you are trying to sell a Mercedes as a Ferrari. I use Mercedes instead of Dacia because Depay isn't awful and I don't just abuse young players. But Depay is not, and never will be good enough for the standards set at United by the likes of Ronaldo, Cantona, Giggs and co. If you can't see that, it is not my knowledge of the game that needs questioning here mate.

United fans very rightly have high standards. I hate to admit it, but for the last 2 decades you've been probably the second best club in the game behind Barcelona only. So a player like Depay who is essentially just the Dutch answer to Wayne Routhledge, is clearly not going to cut the mustard. If Di Maria wasn't good enough, Depay certainly isn't. I really do find it hilarious that United have fallen so far in 3 years that their fans defend a £20m+ signing who got dropped for an 18 year old from the academy. Not even Liverpool fans do that! How the mighty have fallen eh? ;)

Man has had two decent seasons at Southampton, and yes there is certainly scope for more improvement under Klopp. But Mane is known for his work rate and high pressing intensity, and the same cannot be said for Depay who is just an outright flop till date. Depay has a long way to go, Mane is already half way there.

To the Eds - Just some thoughts that came up. I don't know what criteria you use for posts to be shifted to the "Other posts" page but can I request and/ or suggest that 1) Posts concerned primarily with bashing each other with "my knowledge of football is better than yours" and 2) Posts that are actually long unending essays concerned primarily with "my knowledge of football is better than yours", be shifted to the "Other Posts" page? Maybe they'll stop the bashing and make for better reading for the rest of us? After all, this entire website is purely about opinions - nothing less and nothing more, no matter how much many posters may think otherwise. Oh I know I can easily skip, and I regularly do it, but after the increase in such posts I thought I'd put in a small suggestion. Thank you.

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you are talking about.}
