Long time visitor of this site and new poster.

Enjoy the info, the banter and fair bit of what goes on in here.

Was just reflecting after yesterday's match. Was feeling sore that we didn't win the game and also upset with the officials.

However, I'm glad that most Liverpool fans are not remotely close to owning, managing, coaching, advising or influencing the club significantly in any way, shape or form. Not only here, but the reactions on other sites and forums would leave us in a situation close to such:

- the club will be in half a billion debt because we'll splash the cash on endless number of players and pay them crazy wages just so we can 'break the bank' and 'do what it takes to win' and 'show real intent' (cause if we don't plash the cash on average players, people will never take us seriously. it's all about the impression)

- the manager will be sacked mid-season when the team is in 3rd place and still competing in all the competitions because clearly he cannot handle the stress or take a defeat on the chin or win every single game cause that's the realistic expectation isn't it? (cause it is rather regular for teams to win 100% of matches and claim the treble or quadruple year in year out. Liverpool used to be that, right? )

- the same players will be bought and sold within the same transfer window because surely if they can't show their quality within a month, they probably will never make it as a Liverpool player (because Finnan was so average that he should have been sold. why did we keep him to allow him to become one of the best RBs in recent times? )

- academy or young players that come into the team must perform at the highest level from the off and injuries, dip in forms are totally unacceptable, because we don't put up with excuses. (we must remember that Jamie Carragher stopped playing for Liverpool after he conceded 2 own goals to Man Utd because he is clearly no good enough. )

- our manager and players should never claim that any circumstances, apart from their own poor play, affected the results. Because if you are really good, no referee, no foul play, nothing can affect you because clearly managers who've won the PL were gentlemen who spoke highly and kindly about the FA, PL, referees, opposition all the time (Fergie was an angle, so was Wenger, Mourhino, etc. It not in them to ever question decisions made by others, ever. )

I believe Liverpool are headed in the right direction under the current ownership, manager and players. And perhaps it's time for the supports to mature as well. Just as the team needs to develop a winning mentality, I believe the supports also need that. To know how to enjoy the team when they are at their best, rally the team when they are under the cosh, encourage the team when they fall behind and believe in the team always. Players who don't handle pressure, defeats and difficult situations don't rise to the top, perhaps it is likely that its likewise for supporters as well?

Let's support the team all the way, because we are at the business end of the season when they need us the most and come what may, it has been quite a season in so many ways. YNWA.

Great post mate. We are not far away from being a truly great side, we have improved a lot this season. The draw yesterday was a ballache but, if you aren’t willing to pin it on the referees, it probably has something to do with our lack of strength in depth and lack of a proper right back, two things which I am certain will be solved in the summer.

Agreed. We probably could have handled the game better and will need to learn how to do so, such that we will win in spite of the poor decisions, poor pitches, foul play, etc.

But for the match yesterday, the referees clearly played a part in it. While I don't buy the conspiracy against Liverpool thinking, we have been getting the short end of the stick quite a fair bit. Still, the general refereeing standard in PL is at best shocking. There isn't a single referee I can think of and say, he's half decent. None of them have performed at a reasonably competent level consistently. Yet, they have the temerity to claim they got >90% of the decisions right? I honestly don't know which is worse - the incompetence or the unconsciousness to that incompetence that is glaringly obvious.

I'm also certain that the squad will be strengthened in the summer. Not the way some supporters might be hoping for, but the way Klopp sees fit and is within the resources available at the club to make another step up. We're no longer a team in transition, we're a team that is competing. It's now about fine tuning specific parts of the team, reinforcing the squad, and strengthening the maturity, winning mentality and ruthlessness of of this bunch to see them cross the line in claiming some trophies.

Gomez is not a right back he thinks he is better than he is every time I watch him he makes the same mistakes he switches of in very important times of the game namely when defending . It is easy to go forward but you have to be able to get back and defend and keep your concentration which he lacks . By his poor decisions in yesterday’s game it caused the team to conceded goals . I no he is a young lad but if he wants to fulfill his potential then he has to improve on the points I make . Trent Arnold had his problems to but seems to have ironed them out of his game and learnt from his mistakes so I would have him in at right back every time over Gomez .

Great views, guys. I too, am not one to blame refs all the time cos having played the game up to a decent level, you understand that things are not black and white. That said, the WBA game was downright criminal. We can say all we want that, we should have done better in not conceding those goals late on BUT the ref clearly was wearing a WBA shirt as he had NO clue what he was doing. It was as if he was told NOT to award us anything that we deserved and just give everything to WBA if in doubt. That is difficult to overcome esp. if some of our players did not play well (Moreno, Gomez, Klavan etc) .

Let's be clear. I am not asking the ref to give me decisions we don't deserve. I want him to DO HIS JOB as in, give us what we earn and deserve. This is not happening and it is the same for a lot of teams cos the refs in England are relentlessly incompetent. Imagine if yesterday's game demanded that we win and us not winning blew top 4 wide open having been screwed by the ref. Trust me, we would be losing it on here. Thank heavens, that is not the case. On to Roma.

Welcome, imagine if fans owned the club and there was no transfer window.

Also for me it gets messy when fans start saying things like "he thinks he is better than he is" like albeydered just did. It's unhelpfully subjective lol.
