I remember last preseason Klopp tried Adam Lallana out in a holding midfield role, various comments from journalists appeared at the time saying that Klopp was trying to convert him into a Jorginho-esque holding midfielder. I'm wondering if the interest in Thiago is now a return to that kind of playing system/ idea, seeing as Thiago has over the last two seasons in particular developed that side to his game. It's just a thought I had, but it might explain why Klopp wants Thiago.
Again just a thought but I'd like to hear your views.

Isn’t that the role Fabinho does brilliantly?

Yes except Thiago has a bit more pace to his game. Moreover he did play the traditional B2B role in his earlier career. Klopp likes Thiago and he clearly wants him. Wijnaldum was a CAM when we signed him and he still plays that way for Holland except at LFC. Nobody knows what Klopp is thinking now!

I don't see how anyone can argue against us signing a midfielder of Thiago's calibre. Defensively we are have arguably the best centre back, goalkeeper, right back, and left back in Europe. Offensively (as a unit) we have one of the best front 3's in Europe. Midfield is the one area where you'd say City are still ahead of us. Thiago signing for us (combined with David Silva leaving) would tip the midfield battle in our favour as well in my opinion.

I don't know how he fits into the team or gets plenty of gametime but it's not my job to know. Klopp could do with a midfield selection headache because right now I can predict his starting midfield in every big game well in advance. It's clear he only trusts Gini, Fab and Hendo. Gini might not even be here next season unless he puts pen to paper soon.

Thiago is an opportunity we shouldn't pass up if Klopp wants him and the price is right.

For me, the deal does not make sense due to his age, injury history and the reported fee Bayern are looking for even tho, he is a very good player, overall. But if Klopp likes him then, I am for the deal cos clearly, Klopp and his gang have seen things that he offers that we could definitely use and could make us better so hopefully, the deal gets done just for these reasons alone.

here's the argument - we play a 3 man midfield rotating between Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Milner, Ox, Keita, Jones.

Unless we are selling someone we don't know about, then an 8th member doesn't quite add up to me. Not saying it won't happen, but if it does will assume players are heading out the door. cos even 7 among 3 is a massive number for those guys who need to be kept involved.

The one thing we lack is someone with that eye and ability to hit the ball into the front 3 when attacking, Fabinho has a great whip and eye to a pass but is deep a lot of the time Thiago is a player we miss, imagine the front 3's runs being supplied with a great ball each time, we would be even better than we are.

lancaster - on that point of adding a string to our bow. I think we are very proficient at balls over the top. I think if we are going to bring in a 'different' type of player in attack then it should be the type of player who can link our midfield to attack with 1-2s, little balls round the corner etc. A David Silva clone would be amazing for us!
