Following on from the best player not to have won the world cup debate. What's everyone's favourite world cup goal? Bergkamps control and flick with the outside of his foot against Argentina is up there for me but one I remember from 94 is Klinsman flicking it up with 1 foot and spinning and volleying it in with the other.

Can’t remember who they were against but Roger Milla and his dance in Italia 90.

Anything involving the Jabulani.

Bergkamp 98 for me all day long.

Owen vs Argentina in 98 purely for the nostalgia. One of my first football memories and I loved Owen at the time. Reason I became a Liverpool fan.

No goal will ever beat Maradona’s though….

Can't remember which world Cup it was or who it was against but hristo stoichkov scored an abs cracking goal.

I'm going for Socrates for Brazil against Italy in 1982. That turn by Zico, woof.

Absolutely loved Baggio’s goal against Czechoslovakia in 1990! What a footballer he was.

Off topic but I would love to have had Bergkamp play for Liverpool, absolutely superb player.

Eder and Socrates for Brazil 82 against Russia. Carlos Alberto goal for Brazil 1970 world Cup final, you need to watch the build up play footage to fully appreciate, imo Best World Cup goal ever.

Belanov scored a great one in 1986 World Cup in a 6-1 demolition.

Brazil v Italy 1978
Nelinho.

Cambiasso for Argentina after a ridiculous series of passes, blew my mind when I saw it.

giovanni van bronckhorst wc 2010 absolute screamer.

That Cambiasso goal was superb. I'd take a team goal like that every time over individual brilliance.

Laudrup 86 v Uruguay. Denmark player the ball around Uruguay for ages toying with them (it was a brilliant Denmark side with the likes of Laudrup, Elkjear Larsen, Lerby, Simonsen, Morten Olsen, Molby, etc) then Laudrup ghosted past three players and the keeper.

Arie Haan, the 40 yard blockbuster specialist.

Archie Gemmil against Brazil was a top goal, and one by cubillas from peru was a screamer.

Also, Denmark 86 shirt, best looking shirt worn at a WC ever by any team ever, not having any arguments to the contrary.

Maicon went for a cross off the byline in 2010 I think (Can't remember who against) . Ended up curving it off the outside of his foot into goal, don't think it was on purpose but a great goal to watch.

Marco Tardelli, Italy 1982. Corker of a goal. But then the best celebration ever.

Our Maxi Rodriguez's insane cross field volley to win the Round of 16 tie for Argentina vs Mexico in 2006. However, THAT Maradona second goal vs England in Mex. '86 is the STILL the stuff of legends.

Ah someone's started on great kits. I've always liked the Argentina away kits. I loves the 94 one but it just reminds me of Maradona screaming into the camera after scoring a belter.

Italy plain blue Diadora shirt with collar was beautiful. Like a silk shirt. until someone borrowed it from me for a night out (when it was trendy to wear Italian football shirts in dance nightclubs) and tried to iron it. Utter f***tard.

bigbaz Wasn't that a drug filled celebration by Maradona. If I remember he failed a drug test and was sent home.

{Ed001's Note - Maradona always maintained that FIFA knew about it and enabled him to take coke to get his weight down so that he could make it to the tournament.}

Always loved the 78 Argentina kit with Mario Kempes gliding through the dutch. Then the ticker tape. Iconic.

Has to be Denmark 86 a truely beautiful kit.

ED001. Judging by the way FIFA conduct themselves that almost sounds plausible.

Maradona deft header over Shilton. A thing of beauty it was ?.

29.) 18 Nov 2022
18 Nov 2022 12:45:14
Where was VAR when we needed it. I think I read that Shilton to this day still bangs on about it. Move on. Second goal when he ghosted past our midfield and defence. Now that was a thing of beauty.

Gaga it certainly looked like it. I thought it was the next game he got carted off for a test as in my head he was wearing the stripped kit. But as usual I'm probably wrong. I was gutted as he looked excellent and so did that team but seemed once he got banned they kind of fell apart. But as ed1 said he had his side of the story. Imagine how good he could have been without the habits.

As a england fan. it has to michael owen against Argentina.
As a football fan. it has to be Robin van persies diving header from just inside box against Spain. that was sheer class and I love good head.
And the brazil 2010 shirt by a mile.
That Denmark 86 shirt was rank lads. sorry but it is.

Was going to say Shaqiri but remembered it was a Euro’s game. What a strike that was, overhead from the edge of the box.

I’ll vote for Owen’s strike too, my first World Cup I remember.

WDW bergkamp not very useful in many European games though!

34.) 18 Nov 2022
18 Nov 2022 19:13:20
Carlos Alberto, the build up and the pass from Pele, telepathic or he just knew, totally relaxed, nonchalant, perfect weight and direction for Carlos Alberto to belt it in past Albertosi, plus the Clodoaldo dribbling and the number of passes in the build up. Maybe the Italians were tired, maybe it was poorly judged defending on their part, maybe they were just petrified.

35.) 18 Nov 2022
18 Nov 2022 21:44:29
Nelinho, Brazil 1978 and Eder, Brazil 1982. Just magical goals.

And if Pele had not missed the goal post by inches, after selling that gk the most incredible dummy, it would be the goal of the century.

{Ed025's Note - yeah that was a fantastic piece of skill mate..

ArAy1969, by far and away the greatest goal NEVER scored at a WC. Pele was unreal in his prime.
