It has been a while since I last posted, but in my last post it was in regards to Allen and Hendo stepping up when Lucas and Stevie got injured, I know Steve has been back for a while and I have to admit he is adjusting to his new role very well although he is not as good as Lucas yet in the role he obviously brings so much more to the role also. Hendo has for me been outstanding with his commitment and his box to box agility we couldn't ask for more a future captain?
Allen has not had as many opportunities with Steve in the side but he proved yet again what a talented young player he is, the notable change in the team when he came on and his energy were great, I would have preferred keeping Sterling on and I would have taken Coutinho off as I think Sterling is stronger offensively and as has been evident he can tackle also his pressure for the first goal and then the pass sublime. :)

Agger was back to soon and will take a few more weeks to get his fitness and speed back As for Johnson I don't know why BR can't see it but he is woeful and should be left out of the squad altogether, I would prefer Cissoko in that position anyday ahead of a want away Johnson which exposed Agger way to often. We need another wingback like Flanno who for his age is impressing me more and more.

On the whole I am very happy, we have it all to play for simply put if we win all our remaining games we win the league and offensively we certainly have the fire power, having said that I very much doubt we will win the remaining fixtures (but I am starting to dream).

Expectations:

Few weeks ago I posted time to step up! and Henderson, Allen, Lucas & Sterling who I had picked out specifically as my biggest concerns but wow they have delivered.
Without Stevie we have more fluidity and play at a higher tempo, Lucas and Henderson are not being overworked chasing back and have more defined roles. I am not bagging Stevie he is still one of the best players in the EPL but clearly without him we are currently playing with much more creativity.

Our current injuries have been more of a blessing than a hinderance enabling Flanno and Allen to shine, on current performance only Sturridge would be put back in to the squad. My point is that at times out bench has looked pretty thin and only our first team regulars can mount any serious threat for top 4 but now that our fringe players have had time to shine we certainly have more depth than first thought.

Will we win the league? probably not as BR has stated MC have more depth and deeper pockets as do Chelsea but better players and more money does not guarantee success. On current form I believe we could beat anyone in the EPL, as with all fans at the start of the campaign I would settle for top 4 but their is no harm in dreaming of winning the league.

What will we achieve over the next few games? will we win against MC and Chelsea, I don't know but we are certainly in better form and have more team solidarity now than at any time in the last few seasons.

I have always been a fan of BR and believe as performance shows we are moving in the right direction, were by far not the finished article but were at last moving in the right direction. If we add players of the quality of Sturridge and Countinho like we did last January you maybe can start dreaming of the league! the next couple of games will not decide the season we are only half way through, but if we come out of the festive season with the upper hand we will be ideally placed.

Fan bloody tastic!

By far the best I have seen the team play for a very long time thankfully Henderson was fit for the game and didn't he stand up when required, although to be fair he has been performing well all season.

I have had my doubts about Sterling but not about his ability it was more to do with confidence running at players and I am glad I am eating humble pie very well played, his linkup play was great and his tracking back was fantastic, Johnson would be very appreciative of his work rate.

Lucas and Allen great partnership I know not everyone's favourite players but they bossed the midfield, I said in my previous post time to stand up and be counted they certainly did that!

Brilliant by BR making Suarez captain this season he has proved many wrong, not that anyone doubted his skill but his mentality and loyalty was certainly in question he has proved he is dedicated and a true professional you could not ask for more (even if Suarez leaves at the end of the season).

I could go on about the whole team but I won't :) only negative for me was Johnson work rate and poor positioning in the first half, he was caught out of position to many times.

Time to Stand up and be counted!

Injuries are mounting Sturridge 4-8 weeks, Gerrard 4-6 weeks and now Henderson out 3-6 weeks, I know a lot of people have been slating Henderson but you can not fault his work rate and closing players down although his tactical awareness needs to improve he is still young and I hope will become a much better player.

Time to shine for Allen and Lucas, I for one have been hoping Allen and Lucas will get time together but I didn't want it with no experienced back up players available if it doesn't work out. SG will be missed in the coming Xmas period along with Sturridge we are missing 2 vital cogs from our starting 11.

We have several youth players that have been performing very well but are they ready to make the transition to the first team I guess the coming fixtures will tell. Sterlings confidence seems to be returning and his tactical understanding is certainly better than last season but we still need additions on both flanks especially to free up Countinho for the AM role.

Will Aspas get another chance? he is technically gifted and can keep hold of the ball, I would have hoped with Sturridge injured he would get more playing time and he can play on both wings.

I am not a fan of Moses and think Ibe would be better placed as an attacking winger than Moses, hopefully Alberto will get more playing time from what I have seen he seems very capable.

When we press teams we have looked outstanding unfortunately we do not maintain this for 90mins and with crucial players out for Dec we will struggle to stay in the top 4.

Their have been many names rumoured to be joining us in January if we make similar additions to the quality of last January I will be very happy,

I am by no means an expert but have been supporting an watching Liverpool for 30yrs, I believe under BR we have improved as a team and club we are moving in the right direction but we are not quite their yet. We are in a good position running in to a very busy period which will state where we are at in terms of competing for 4th spot, unfortunately as I have said previously without our full strength first team I think we will not finish in the CL spots.

My criticism of the way BR has the team setup:
Defence-
Stable defence apart from injuries we have been rotating our defence to much, When fit we have a very good defensive line not withstanding Johnson. (I don't think we need any additions in defence just players back from injury and faith in our youth players.

Midfield-
Midfield is my biggest concern Lucas is a very good defensive midfield player that unfortunately due to our current setup is being asked to cover to much of the pitch. Gerrard's role needs more definition and for me he is not able to maintain 90mins in his current role. Henderson is a box to box midfielder that seems to lack tactical knowledge of where he should be and what he should be doing (saying that I like his work rate and I think he could be more suited working along side Lucas, but wit a leash on!). Allen I know not everyone likes him but he is a very capable midfielder who needs games, he is still young and has more tactical knowledge than Henderson and a better pass (I know they play in different roles but we another anchor alongside Lucas).
Wingers/L & R Midfield-
I don't think Sterling is ready for first team football an should go out on loan ASAP to get experience, for me this is the main positions wide right and left where need quality adding to the team. Moses I was unsure off prior to joining us but I think he should be returned to Chelsea ASAP. We need quality attacking width that have the ability to track back when required.
ATM-
As long as Coutinho stays fit we don't have a problem he does go missing for brief periods but his class shines through, we do however require cover. or call Pacheco back from his loan.
Strikers-
We will lose Suarez hopefully not till the summer and our recent purchases are struggling to make the adjustment to the EPL but on paper we are not short on options for the strikers.

Round up-
Additions to the left and right midfield is a high priority and also another attacking midfielder, we have I believe potentially world class youth players on the fringe that should be given more opportunities.

This is my opinion I know not everyone will be of the same opinion.

What is with all the negativity 2 games in and yes we are not playing with any fluidity but a combination of new signings and fitness is the reason. TBH I would happily play rubbish and win than play great and lose, it is at least a dozen games before we have full fitness and some players settle faster than others.

{Ed001's Note - full fitness is no longer that far away, modern techniques ensure players are pretty much match fit before the season starts. The issue is more about gelling as a team, that is what takes the time.}
