Well Suarez is going now, I guess that's it for the season for Liverpool now, may as well give up and accept that the reds are now doomed to be a Mid-table club for life.

That's what I expect will be the thoughts of many a pundit and a fan. It's around time for the scaremongers and eternal pessimists to come out, calling for Suarez's head and some how link his wanting to leave to Rodgers for not giving Suarez his house or how FSG are to blame because they bought a newspaper instead of offering him £1 million a week.
But, before you hit the panic button and curl up in to a ball, let me say something that I have wanted to say for a while. I think Luis Suarez's importance to the team has been overrated hugely. At the start of the season and up until January, Suarez was as important as people say he is now, but there are two reasons why that status has changed. Coutinho and Sturridge. Before the arrived, Luis was the only player, apart from Stevie who could create and score goals, and everyone knows that without him, we would have finished somewhere not worth thinking about. But since then, we signed two gems. Coutinho has all the skill and vision of Suarez without the insanity and Sturridge who scored 11 goals and got 3 assists in 14 games. And thanks to the ever dependable Suarez, we've already seen that Liverpool can thrive without him. We can win games without him, and that's without mentioning any replacements that we may buy. I'm sure that there are many that think we can never replace Suarez. And they're right. Just like how we could never replace Torres, what's worse, we got stuck with some unknown random South American that only played in Holland. But in all seriousness, this happens to every great team. United lost Ronaldo and they didn't do too badly since them. But the prime example of how we should react is looking at the example of Arsenal. They lost Rvp, who scored 40 goals for them with the next highest scorer for the whole season was Walcott with 10. As important as Suarez was to us, Rvp was far more important to them, they only sold him for 24 mill and didn't even buy a decent replacement, but they still managed to finish fourth. It's not the end of the world if we lose Suarez, in fact, it could well be healthy for us. With Suarez, I had always been worried that we could suffer from an issue which we had with Torres, which was that We werp play to focused on one player, and when that players playing well it's great, but when they can't score, we have an issue. When we don't have him at the fore, we play with more freedom. It's not about giving the ball to Suarez and let him score, but just to get the ball into to the goal, no matter who puts it in. In the end, players come and go. We had to move on from Rush, Fowler, Owen and many others and we'll move on from Suarez to. The one thing that characterised ( and I hate to use his example) Fergie's reign was that no player was ever bigger than the club and as soon as your ego get's too big and you stop putting the team first, you were out of there. No matter if you were Ronaldo, Beckham or Van Nistelrooy, you were replaceable, and his team thrived on it, because that is the most important yet often overlooked part of football. It's a team game. There are 11 players on the pitch and all of them are needed to get anywhere. I would much rather we spend the money from Suarez on two or three great players. We don't have to replace Suarez like for like straight away, especially as there are no players in any of the major leagues that we could get. We need to spend smart and buy players all over the pitch that will improve the team in many different ways, and so that o he player doesn't have to suffer under the weight of a huge price tag, a la Carroll. In the end, this is just another player in the reds history. And I for one, do care in the slightest that he is going. Infact, I'm pleased. I would love to hear some reaction from fans or eds alike.

Hi ed(s), I was wondering whether or not you think that Liverpool will look to replace Downing if he moves on, or will some of the younger players make the step up. I ask this as with not only Downing, but assaidi and suso leaving and being on loan, we are down on three wide options but do have Ibe waiting in the wings ( no pun intended). Thanks in advance. {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}
