After a successful second half to our campaign, we had high hopes for next season depending on a successful transfer window. Without question this has been a very good transfer window for Liverpool.

Before the summer it was widely recognised that improvements to our defence was a must. The legendary JC retired, Skrtel's form had dropped and Enrique had nobody to challenge him for a first team place. Unlike last year we were very successful in doing just that.

Cissokho was brought in on loan and looks to be a good acquisition, reducing the risk of purchasing a left back and leaving more funds available its a shrewd signing from Rodgers. Now when our left back does get injured which unfortunaley has already happened we have sufficient cover.

Kolo Toure coming in on a free didn't cause much of a stur to begin with. But his love of playing has seen him put in some very good performances to the start of his LFC career adding more depth and experience to the squad.

Tiago Ilori another centre back seen as one for the future at 7million rodgers must have seen something he liked in the 12 league appearances, given the amount of talented young centre backs at the club kelly, wisdom and with the overlooked coates who is unable to leave. This signing strikes me as quite odd a loan option may suit all parties.

Mamadou Sakho is Liverpool's most expensive signing of the summer and arguably the only 'marquee' signing Liverpool acquired. The French international is highly rated by journalists with (I forget his name) referring him as 'beast'. Sakho is a strong, physical defender who is equally comfortable at left back. Sakho has over 150 first team appearances for PSG and has made 14 appearances at international level. The question wont be can he adapt to english football it will be how quickly he can adapt. The only issue I have with this deal is 18m for a player who has one year left on his contract regardless of his quality is absurd. But that is the downside of completing deals on deadline day.

Aspas, Alberto and Moses on paper seem like decent signings although unlikely to make to many appearances between them. It gives the squad some much needed depth and provides Rodgers 3 more attacking players who all suit his style of football.

Finally, Simon Mignolet. Although rated highly raised many questions about the future of beloved pepe reina. Although adored by fans there was no questioning he had not been playing to the best of his abilities over the past two years, and even with rodgers claims there was room for both of them he was loaned back to Rafa's new team at Napoli. It takes a big man to make these sort of calls and there is an even bigger risk but it seems rodgers has nailed. Reducing the wage bill, improving the squad and with mignolet's fine performances including 3 clean sheets. Not only does this make this 100% rodger's squad on and off the pitch this makes us stronger. The only dissapointing thing about this deal is that reina wasn't treated with the respect he deserves even with envious marks to barcelona a proper send off is a must when he returns.

In terms of players selling we have kept our best players I.e suarez and sold every over-paid under-performing individual. With Downing and Carroll gone and being more decisive of who has a future e.g. keeping hendo selling spearing and shelvey. Liverpool install confidence in the players that who stay and raise money for the ones who don't.

A fine transfer window, we have improved depth and our starting XI with a net spending of 20m, and given the results we have been getting top 4 seems a very real possibility. However we do now have 8 centre backs and even with coates being injured this will need to be addressed.
Lets not forget thatthat Tottenham sold their best player and with new signings needing time to settle they are certainly weaker short term. Arsenal may have bought Ozil however they still lack depth in key areas up front and central defence thatcould cause them some problems across the season.

Although we didnt get what we wanted (Mkhitayran and costa) in the end we got what we needed, more depth and a win against united!

Thanks for reading ;)

I think Aspas will be hitting the bench with suarez playing out wide. Given how well sturridge is playing he shouldnt be pushed out wide cheers zari

Great blog mate. However, I would like to add that I see Aspas in the starting 11. When Suarez returns he'll most likely be playing LF, with Aspas on the right and Cout in the middle. I think Moses was signed for depth so as to allow us to play Suarez up top when Dani needs resting and to avoid putting too much pressure on Sterling and Ibe.

Yeah, on the surface the Ozil signing is breadtaking. But can he really do it on a wet night at Stoke? Or is he really the urgent need in their team? We will see.
