Great site. I was wondering if you know why our interest in Shaqiri evaporated? Seemed keen to join us and seems a great player; decent price, young, quick, and offered plenty of options from winger to striker to creator. Great World Cup too.

Was it down to his wage demands?

{Ed001's Note - no, it was because Bayern offered him a new contract and he preferred to stay.}

More of a general question rather than an immediate day-to-day one, but I was wondering if there's been any credible rumours recently (i.e. over the past few months/season) about us having a Director of Football, or a near-equivalent - and if so, have there been any specific names suggested?

General question rather than a rumour. It seems that we're likely to sell Borini (14m), Agger (12m), Assaidi (6m) and Lucas (10m), and maybe one of Johnson, Coates, and Enrique.

It also looks like we're likely to buy Bony (19m), Konoplyanka (13m) and Romero (2m) - or at least, players in that price range.

The wage bill would also seem to be fairly unchanged, given the high number of top-earning players who have left or are in the process of leaving.

I know these are only ball-park figures, but if we end up with something along those lines, it seems that we'll be close to zero net-spending.

A very good transfer window all in all, but what do you think the owners will do with the remainder of the 60m they'd planned to invest in the squad? Keep it for the stadium, keep it all for future spend, or spend now for future players? For example, Reus's buy-out clause of £20m kicks in next year and Dormund don't want to sell yet. Do you think the owners might pay it in advance, to secure the deal? Or do a similar thing with other players?

Seeing as Madrid are eager to get some cash to fund their Galactico strategy of buying James, are unwilling to sell Isco outright (it seems), and at 31 years old, Pepe is reaching the end of his career at left-Centre-Back, do you think there's a chance that they'd be open to doing a deal on Varane, given he's really a RCB? Maybe with Agger as makeweight?

I'm sure it'll be a hefty price, but I think it's worth seeing if a deal is possible.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has shown no interest in Varane - Liverpool are after Lovren.}
