Have we become predictable? Are other teams exploiting our high line and defensive weakness at right back? I understand our high line and high press has worked brilliantly but for the sake of dropping off 20 yards when we lose possession to avoid being caught flat must be a no brainer.

Yes, simple answer. I’m sure it can be fixed but would rather it sooner than later!

2.) 23 Aug 2022 15:22:06
This is going to sound like a contradiction but here goes.

I love Klopp and I definitely think he is the best man to fix this current dilemma. However I think he is quite stubborn and if he is to fix it he will do it his way which will involve continuing with the high line.

Not once did he try and get rid of the high line when we had Kabak, Rhys Williams or Phillips as our centre half’s and them 3 would struggle to outrun a parked car.

Jurgens fellow countryman Albert Einstein sums up Jurgens stubbornness quite succinctly (brief and clearly expressed) .

"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". (Mental Pressures in other words) .

4.) 23 Aug 2022 15:45:09
Not to be contrarian but the high line is not the issue. It's the midfield that is not functioning properly and the forwards having to receive more difficult/ riskier passes resulting in possession lost, and the inevitable gaping middle third that poor Fabinho has to patrol on his own.

Just for nuance, Virgil, Trent and Robbo are stinking at the moment too.

5.) 23 Aug 2022 18:35:39
If the forwards could convert more than 1 of the 20 odd shots per game it might ease the pressure on the midfield and defence.

6.) 23 Aug 2022 19:00:59
Fly is right. The high line has always been a risk but the midfield being ineffective getting the ball to feet and being creative give the opposition the confidence to press and leave faster players up top to exploit the high line. Yeah VVD hasn’t started playing this season yet but the root cause of the current issues is not the defence. IMO anyway.

7.) 23 Aug 2022 19:19:14
Oh mane mane in fairness mate the chances last night and the other 2 games were mostly pot shots.

Diaz comes inside every time so he’s becoming easier to defend against unless he pulls out another Palace Worldie and Salah is being doubled up on every time we get the ball. Bobby isn’t dragging any centre half’s with him and could have been man marked by Rashford last night.

8.) 23 Aug 2022 19:50:52
I think he can be stubborn and too loyal. Some players still at the club should have been shipped out several years ago. We all know who they are.

We can talk about chances created but we aren't creating great chances. I don't recall last night thinking "we have to score there". Even Salah's goal De Gea should have saved it. United but for poor finishing could have scored 4. Virgil so casual against Fulham for the pen, he watched Zaha score and last night stood like a statue for 3-4 seconds and could have easily closed down Sancho and even blocked the shot, just like against Zaha last week. Mitrovic had an identical header at the weekend to the one he scored against us and the keeper palmed it away. Trent hasn't learned to look over his shoulder even after the CL Final mistake but equally Virgil responsible too for doing the hands behind the back statue impersonation "defending" Valverde. Trent got done by Mitrovic and same against Palace and now United. Also didn't track Foden in the charity shield for their goal. He's having a terrible season defensively and for the first time I'd say no way is he looking like the best english right back.

So surprised he’s willing to stay in Germany for another season if he wins the league. I really thought the stars had aligned for Alonso to manage us before inevitably moving on to his dream job at Madrid.

Edd, who’s you like to see us sign to replace salah now or next summer?

Ecogsi

{Ed002's Note - I think Marcus Edwards would be a great option, but it won't be him.}

Paulinha would have been a great signing for our engine room.

We’ve needed 3 midfielders and a centre half since last season. How we’ve left it this late is nothing other than poor management. Messing about with bellingham, caicedo and lavia when it looks as though none of them had any interest in joining is embarrassing. 2 players short of having a strong balanced squad if you ask me.

Very good player but Absolutely crazy money. Hopefully this means the means the end of Trent coming inside. Find it crazy that we couldn’t afford Bellingham after this bid!

Spot on review. Agree with all points and feel so sad that Klopp won’t get the fairytale ending.

The lack of effort shown by Trent at the back post the other night and In most defensive situations is an absolute disgrace. Shirking out of a challenge in the derby when you’re going for the league, criminal! Your captain and vice captain are meant to lead by example on and off the ball. I’ve said it countless times, Trent is a fantastic footballer, oozes ability on the ball that most pros can only dream of but defensively I can’t remember a weaker right back in red.

If he wasn’t a scouser and hadn’t come through the academy I’d sell him to the highest bidder. The main reason being what I’ve said above, defensively he’s absolutely awful. More over the argument to have him play in midfield only works if you give him a free role and that doesn’t exist in modern day football. He doesn’t have the engine, bite, press, physicality or hunger to defend in midfield.

I’m typing this after having the time to reflect. The loss to Everton, the defensive frailty shown all season, the consistency of missed chances game after game, choosing players out of form and lastly the having no plan b from Klopp and the coaching staff is the reason I’m looking forward to a change. Klopp is a legend and I’ll be eternally grateful for the memories but fresh eyes are needed.

Playing Trent as an inverted fullback when we dominate teams really stifles us. Get him wide and get players in the box for his early delivery.

Have the same feeling if we get back to our free flowing football. They won’t cope with us if we get anywhere close to our best.
