Liverpool want to bolster their defence with Southampton defender Jose Fonte. Mamadou Sakho may be used as part of the deal. [Mirror] #LFC. Surely this is not true

Matip is boss

1.) 15 Jan 2017 07:59:52
As a Sharkopod listener, and a listener to other teams not just our own, I'll say that Fonte (given what was said in the United Sharkopod) is more or less nailed on to join them. That is where he wants to go, that is where the strongest interest lies and also where the largest transfer fee for Southampton lies - he won't be going to us.

Oh, and to add to this, Ed002 in particular has made the situation about Sakho very clear: he wants to go to a top tier club - that rules out Southmapton. Our financial demands are also quite high which would also rule out Southampton. I'd ignore everything in the papers - they don't write the truth, they write stories to try and facilitate sales - take it (both sports news and general news) with a massive pinch of salt!

2.) 15 Jan 2017 11:56:57
Funny how that rumour was on here and then appears on the mirror, we must be the mirrors sources lol

3.) 15 Jan 2017 13:07:52
Mikey, as I pushed it a couple of days ago (to a bit of ridicule) I'm quite happy to wait for my royalty cheque from the Mirror, lol!

4.) 15 Jan 2017 14:34:49
Sky just said no interest. Like the eds said all along.

I would like to say what a player Alonso was and wish him the best . Great buy from Rafa.

Matip is boss

1.) 09 Mar 2017 10:47:20
Pity he then stabbed him in the back to try and get . Gareth Barry.

2.) 09 Mar 2017 11:23:07
It's between him and Suarez for the best player I've ever seen play life. All the best to him and think he'll need the time off to arrange his trophy cabinet because it must be flooded!

3.) 09 Mar 2017 11:33:32
I don't blame Rafa the club was in massive debt and 27mil and what he was on was a lot of money back them,

{Ed001's Note - that was not why he was wanting to swap the two, as Barry was offered a similar wage.}

4.) 09 Mar 2017 11:59:40
Why did he want the swap if you don't mind me asking? Rafa seems a manager who is good at the technical side of the game (apparently man management is his big weakness), so surely it must have been obvious that Alonso was one of the best players in world football.

{Ed001's Note - Alonso had not been playing to his best following injury and Rafa had feared he would never return to his best. As for Barry, I have absolutely no idea why he wanted him, bad scouting, like so much of the dross he bought, I would suggest.}

5.) 09 Mar 2017 13:55:53
Alonso did have an absolute stinker of a season, the Barry bid failed, Xavi stayed and had a magnificent season the following season, but the bridges had been burned, sadly.

6.) 09 Mar 2017 13:23:36
Rafa wanted to sell him to Juventus the season before and for some reason the deal did not happen. Xabi then had the best season for us. Real came calling for him and he couldn't resist a chance to return. We got a good long and wasted it on Aquilani and all those now praising Lucas couldn't step into the shoes of Xabi when he left us.

7.) 09 Mar 2017 16:06:51
I think I remember rafa falling out with xabi when he chose to stay with his wife rather than play a champions league game. Don't know if that had something to do with him selling him.

{Ed001's Note - that was a big part of it yes.}

8.) 09 Mar 2017 16:10:26
Turn it in with the Lucas bit, honestly Harry you come out with some stuff sometimes mate.

{Ed001's Note - and what was meant by Xabi returning? He never played for Madrid before.}

9.) 09 Mar 2017 17:10:03
Alonso couldn't resist a return to Spain.

10.) 09 Mar 2017 23:16:16
No Harry. Alonso could not resist the fact that Rafa (for reasons only he can say) stupidly wanted him gone cos he stayed with his wife after delivery or cos he wasn't sure Xabi would recover well from injury.

We now know how well he recovered as we have seen the great success he's had since he left us. Real had nothing to do with it. They knew Rafa wanted him gone and swooped in and got him. We had a great team and Rafa broke that team up due to his arrogance.

Alonso NEVER wanted to leave us until Rafa forced him out in favor of the supremely woeful Barry, later replaced by the pathetic disaster that was Aquilani. Some world class manager he is. NOT! I always maintained even then, that Rafa should have been sacked for forcing Aloso out even then and I stand by my statement.

11.) 10 Mar 2017 15:28:13
Noah

Alonso had a dreadful season prior to his all time beat on a red shirt and like every manager Rafa feared for the player just like you want Sturridge to be replaced. You cannot slag of managers wanting a replacement of a player who wasn't hit either injuries.

Rafa didn't force him out. Give me a break. He wanted Barry who was pairing with Gerrard in the heart of that England midfield and trust me both Bary and Milner were outstanding for Aston villa.

Many players fell out with Rafa, From Albert Riera to Craig Bellamy. That doesn't make him a bad manager. In case then half of the Dortmund squad fell out with Klopp FYI.

I was in Asia when Liverpool toured for pre season and still remember the fans pleading for Alonso to stay amid his move to Real. ( Banners and quotes ) .

Alonso is my all time fav player. But facts are facts. Simple as that. You can't deny what happened.

We cashed in for Alonso and spend it on Aquilani who came in injured while we had Lucas who couldn't step into the heart of midfield.

12.) 11 Mar 2017 15:08:39
Harry, read Carras column in the paper today (unfortunately he writes for the Fail, but anyway! ) I'm certain he knows the situation a billion times better than you and he said Alonso left as Rafa didn't attempt to mend the bridges he had burned the previous season. If he had Alonso would've stayed, accordingly to a player who played with him and who is a Liverpool legend.

Ed are we looking at this person Naby Keita really look the like for him think he be the perfect cm.

06 Feb 2017 21:48:45
I know the summer long time away but if you look at the postions we need. This is just me. People can have there say

New gk
CB
Lb
A defensive midfielder who can Sence danger
Winger

We talking at least 70mil for top talent.

There should be a lot sold and the wage bill should be healthy to bring these players if we what to be up there like Chelsea.

Matip is boss

1.) 06 Feb 2017 22:19:26
I agree but with with Sturridge looking likely to leave, Ings being injured and we are yet to see if he can really do a job for us and Origi still pretty raw I'd like to see a striker in the mold of Harry Kane.

Bobby has done well but iv said it before he isn't an out an out goalscorer. He need someone who can do what he does but also hold the ball up, not be bullied by defenders and get on the end of crosses when teams sit deep.

And before people say Carroll, Lambert, Benteke didn't work, I don't mean players like them. Kane presses from the front and works hard which they didn't. Hopefully Origi can step up again as he's already shown there is talent there, but he's young and having that little dip all young players do.

2.) 06 Feb 2017 23:32:46
Thats the whole difference in mentality right there.

70 million spread across 5/ 6 players is why 9/ 10 you don't end uo with quality.

Whats the most pressing position there. goal keeper?

Find the best, attainable keeper we can and keep biding until we have him. If that's 38 million for oblak. then done.

Next on the list lb? Got juanma.

So cb. Nik sule? Again keep biding 35/ 40 million? Too much. Walk away and that's your lot.

Until next summer.

Got an academy there for players aswel. If you can't get the best avaliable to you walk away. don't try and spread 60/ 70 million over a few players.

3.) 07 Feb 2017 01:38:30
that's all just fantasy numbers. if you want to spend 70mil then you're taking risks with players and hoping klopp can get them up to speed. winger? mane cost 34 mil and we probably feel like we got a bargain. not sure what a DM that can 'Sense danger' would cost but i'm Guessing will be north of 25mi. that leaves you 11mil for a GK, LB and CB. we should just be targeting absolute first team players. if that only means we bring in two at a higher cost then that's what we should do and try and develop from the squad to fill other gaps.

4.) 07 Feb 2017 04:49:41
@Westwood - Origi's goals to games ratio is appalling for a striker. He may be a useful player to have in and around the squad but i'm not sure he'll ever be the 20-goal a season striker you want us to aim for.

@Supermane - Sule has already agreed to join Bayern. I agree with your sentiments though, absolute quality should be the priority rather than spreading resources thinly for 5 or 6 positions - we've done that a lot in previous transfer windows and it has not paid dividends.

{Ed001's Note - Origi is young, very few players have a good scoring ratio at his age, it is later they develop into a goalscorer usually. Sometimes very late.}

5.) 07 Feb 2017 08:27:23
Precisely ed, he may not become world class but i truly believe he can become an excellent player if given the time to develop.

6.) 07 Feb 2017 10:40:39
Too many changes all at once disrupts the team.
We are not that far off that we need 7 first team players.

7.) 07 Feb 2017 10:41:23
Sule is off to Bayern and I think Karius should be given a true chance (not 10 measly games) to prove himself as he's a talented GK.

8.) 07 Feb 2017 11:15:49
Are people ignoring Danny Ward completely? The lad is coming back from a loan in summer and if you buy a GK what is his future at the club?

9.) 07 Feb 2017 10:54:48
Look at costas early record, he was awful and loaned out several times up to the age of around 24. Origi will be a great striker in the future for me.

10.) 07 Feb 2017 12:27:51
His record at Liverpool is not bad at all if you look at it fairly.

In 28 starts Origi has 13 goals. Pretty much a goal every other game. That is not bad for a 21 year old striker!

In a further 35 substitute appearances he has 5 goals. When you consider that the average time he would be on the pitch for this is about 15 minutes, that is decent. It also means that throwing him on has a high chance of changing the game for us. Not many subs come on and make an impact. Most fail to get up to speed before the final whistle!

Good young player who has too much pressure on him due to Sturridge being completely out of form.

11.) 07 Feb 2017 13:20:43
I didn't mean sule exactly.

Just i know he is very good quality. So if he was avaliable qould be a target. If he would be too of our lsit for cb then just pay whatever is jeeded aslong as it in budget. 40/ 50 million. It sounds a lot but if were spending 50/ 60 mil a summer on a lot of pkayers it better on just oje top top top quality.

12.) 07 Feb 2017 17:28:41
Origi is 21, for heaven's sake. Give him a chance. When on form, we've seen what he can do so I will stick with him till he shows he can't cut it anymore. Same with Karius.

Does anyone know how I can get 2 tickets in the replay to Plymouth in the away end thanks

Matip is boss

1.) 08 Jan 2017 17:31:58
Away tickets are much harder to get these days 😡

2.) 09 Jan 2017 08:55:26
It being midweek in Plymouth might help though

3.) 09 Jan 2017 10:49:10
True but I couldn't get one for the Boro game for love nor money

4.) 09 Jan 2017 12:52:04
Plymouth will be hard to get tickets for. There will be loads of fans in Devon and cornwall. there's also a lot of Navy and ex Navy who will be fans. Liverpool have a big following there.

5.) 09 Jan 2017 14:32:21
Ya I'm from Cornwall that's why I'm asking. Do I have to buy from the Liverpool website thanks

6.) 09 Jan 2017 22:59:53
Yeah I'm a Liverpool fan from Devon, funnily enough I used to play in the Plymouth argyle academy until 16. It Was a tough watch for me on Monday

06 Jan 2017 22:47:58
Who is everyone looking forward to against Plymouth my is Joe Gomez I believe Klopp can make him a top CB.

Matip is boss

1.) 06 Jan 2017 23:40:53
Id really like to see Wilson be given a go.

2.) 06 Jan 2017 23:46:17
Ojo please

3.) 07 Jan 2017 01:19:35
I'd like to see an xi of Karius, TAA, Gomez, Lucas, Juanma, Stewart, Ejaria, Grujic (if fit), Ojo, Origi, Wilson

4.) 07 Jan 2017 00:01:37
Ojo has to be my number 1 pick but also looking forward to seeing Gomez should he be on.

5.) 07 Jan 2017 00:18:53
Agree with Ron - definitely hoping to see Ojo, reckon he may have had a few first team games this season if it weren't for injury.

6.) 07 Jan 2017 00:26:28
My guess at the starting X1 is Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Lucas, Klavan, Moreno, Ojo, Stewart, Wijnaldum, Milner, Sturidge, Origi

7.) 07 Jan 2017 07:17:31
I like YOU's team but i guess Moreno might play instead of Juanma and Woodburn possibly in front of Wilson.

8.) 07 Jan 2017 07:38:12
Will Matip not get a bit of time on the pitch or would that be viewed as more of a risk than a benefit for him to play?

9.) 07 Jan 2017 16:09:22
Matip may get time vs Saints in the midweek Cup game, in readiness for the Utd game. At least, I hope.

10.) 07 Jan 2017 18:44:19
Important to remember that Plymouth are an established, tough, professional team who are having a good season. A team of kids and kids alone won't be enough - we need at least one or two more senior ones than Lucas, Stewart and Origi.

11.) 08 Jan 2017 11:00:44
You win nothin with kids

Dembele 21 it's a risk but he's got everything to his game . He's strong can score goals you can say it's in the Scottish leauge but he also had good games agaist city and Barcelona . He's a stong lad . But like I said it's a risk but sometimes you have to take them to get rewards .

Daredman you know why he did that because no one was trying to get the bull back with him . Oxs would be a good signing there's a player in him it just needs to be unlock.

I remember people saying hendo and Lallana are bang average look at them now.

People did not what mane because of his attitude and have we seen anything bad from mane

And if you let him go to a rival and do well you look really silly.

Have we got a replace for Lallana because I have not seen one in are team . Gini naver like him

I'm not saying he should be a top target but if you can get him for 15-20mil you can't go wrong.
