I mean you only had to watch Mane in his final year at Liverpool to see that he wasn’t the player he was.

He was shocking on the left wing and had a renaissance when shoehorned in the middle for a short time. Diaz looked a far better player when he was introduced.

For once I think the club made the correct decision in allowing him to leave on his own accord and fetch a decent amount of money for him. I hope we take this stance more often in the future.

There has also always been a bit of a nasty side to Mane. He forced his way out of Southampton, had a public spat with Salah in the middle of a game and then went about his departure from Liverpool in a disrespectful way (having his agent spew nonsense right before the UCL final) . He’s a fantastic human being by the way, charitable and respectful but undoubtedly he gets caught in the moment.

I think he’s struggled to settle at Bayern and his literal fight with Sane won’t have helped matters at all. His on pitch performances also haven’t been impressive for them. He’s also on very large wages. Bayern are going through a bit of a transition period with a new manager and staff in the background so I suspect they will cut their losses and alleviate their wage bill.

Shame really.

Great player and made the most of his ability even when his pace was diminishing. We sold at the right time when he was clearly in decline and retained some value. If he forced the move then he did us a favour because we should have been doing this with many other players, had we done just that we may not have found ourselves in the position we now are, needing defensive upgrades/ rethink and a complete midfield overhaul.

The problem with Mane was that he slowed down the play, His talent was over 5 yards from a standing start which meant he had to kill the momentum before doing the action. He had to square a defender up before he could do anything, In the prem that's bourbon biscuits to a defending team.
