Eds lots of noise at the minute regarding Amrabat, Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez. My question is really in your opinion ste any of them realistically viable give our financial situation and the need for cash injection which is as you explained not an instant fix and likely to take time. Must be some truth in our interest in these 3? I just don't see how it's possible as 2 of these 3 players will be 100M+ of which we just don't have.

{Ed002's Note - I believe they are all potentially financially viable but the thought they have all already signed is wide of the mark.}

As I said yesterday (or the day before and the day before that) why do people think that we can’t sign the players we want? When did Liverpool FC (or FSG) say that the club couldn’t sign anyone because they couldn’t finance a deal.

There is a whole world of difference in Liverpool FC not going after a player because the potential seller places a ridiculous price on a player, or because the club might not think the player could adapt to the way we play or because the player might not be the right ‘fit’ in terms of character for the squad. As an example just because we didn’t enter a bidding war for, say, Haaland, doesn’t mean that the finances weren’t there for an actual target, say Tchouameni.

Have a bit of faith in the club.

FSG have said it themselves repeatedly that they can't and won't compete with the "oil clubs" in terms of transfers. Considering our previous record was £75 odd million for VVD and and initial £65 million layout for Nunez it's a bit of a jump to then pay £130 million plus for one player.
Yes it's nice to daydream, but then there's harsh reality and FSG's own words.
And if the club did spend that much on one player, then that will likely be the player for that window, unless there's some wheeling and dealing done. So folks dreaming of Bellingham plus a few others in one window are effectively living in cloud cuckoo land.

Given our hand to mouth model that requires substantial sales and our debt (which is not far off Man United’s) there’s no logical way either Bellingham or Fernandez are signing as there’s no one in the squad we could sell that would raise the kind of money needed that wouldn’t cause another problem in the starting line up. Knowing FSG it’ll be any combination of dross from Amrabat, Berge, Arthur as well as a Naby Keita contract renewal.

VVVV Ed’s has just advised us that they are financially viable pal so try to lighten up a little maybe.

Yis are all missing the point that signing Bellingham for the kind of fees mentioned will prove to be an absolute bargain. Either 15 year of a great player or selling him on for twice the money to madrid in a few year. FSG realise this, every club on the continent realise this, thank God he wants us.

Question Ed2, do you know if Jude and Enzo interest is related to each other? Is it either one of Jude/ Enzo or is it we want both of them?

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in both.}

I think the majority of deals depend on how they need to be financed.

If a club want £100m+ upfront we will likely struggle, but if someone is willing to take installments then we may have a chance.

I treat it no differently to an individual who wants to buy a house or a car but obviously on a bigger scale. Most people can't afford one lump sum so they split it into monthly payments.

IF we got both (pipe dream) our midfield would be sorted for years and any future expenditure on the midfield would need to be less.

I think Liverpool will probably have a bit of dosh to spend this year.

Lump sums paid upfront won’t work for the club but amounts paid over multiple periods will ease the financial burden on Liverpool and I suspect that will allow Liverpool to wrestle themselves into a position to be able to afford players such as Bellingham, Enzo, Caicedo and Amrabat (obviously not purchasing all of them! ) . Most of those players would likely also come in on lower wages than the players we are expecting to lose in summer, Naby, Ox and Milner are all on high wages for fringe players.

The prospect of a new takeover/ investment might make the current owners happier to spend a bit more with the confidence that new ownership will bring their own investments. If I’m not mistaken Ed002 when a club is taken over aren’t the owners allowed to invest certain amounts of money into the club to be spent? (Could be wrong) .

Personally I wouldn’t worry too much about the money and just hope that we sign some good players!

{Ed002's Note - Owners can invest under certain cir numstances but FFP needs to be adheared to.}

"Interest" is a funny substance. Im sure about half of all clubs in the world hold interest in the two player. Ed, do you see Liverpool make their interest specific in any of two by any chance, and do more than just have the players drink coffee and making friends with them? Personaly I think both are out of reach. Maybe not financialy, but I just feel like history shows that 8 of 10 ends up being pursuaded by glam and money. Having one of either Enzo or Bellingham would be a proper statement.

Merry christmas to all.

{Ed002's Note - Statement to who?}

13.) 20 Dec 2022
20 Dec 2022 12:10:48
Both would be an excellent window to be fair. At 21 and 19 they would be the main stays for at least the next five years.

Plus players such as Elliot, Carvallho, Doak and Bacjetic who are all still very young, gives us a many options going forward. I think it’s safe to say Keita, Milner and Chamberlain will certainly leave in the summer. I highly doubt we are receiving any fees in January for either Ox or Keita.

If we are starting the next campaign with a midfield of Fernandez, Bellingham, Henderson, Fabinho, Carvallho, Elliot, Jones, Bacjetic, then I’m more than happy with that as our midfield.

If this was the case I’d love Gvardiol in the next window or two to take over from Van Dyjk eventually.

14.) 20 Dec 2022
20 Dec 2022 12:32:12
Ed, I think Smedders is referring to the clubs ability to compete for (prestige) signings, as opposed to clubs like Madrid, Barcelona etc always getting first nibbles.

15.) 20 Dec 2022
20 Dec 2022 13:49:14
It is still so mind boggling that the despite the amount of times ed tell us not to think about money, because next to none of us understand all the facets, that so many of the same people on here seem to think they know the first thing about what is available, from which sources, for whom and the values of such.

For Ed2 to even confirm interest in these linked players is enough to know that these are the calibre of player and the sort of ambition the club is pushing for.

How about a little optimism you bunch of naysayers!

Im with you WWW. The club have splashed big monies on Van Dijk, then Alisson, latest Nunez, and few others in between.

Just because the club didn't buy the players that you wanted, doesn't necessarily means the club not willing to spend.

Why is everyone focused on one window. I think the push will be made to take Frenandez this window and then look to Bellingham in the summer window. Who knows who will have the keys to the club by that point, just my opinion. People saying the owners won't invest, their asset is depreciating to get their value they will need to invest.

21.) 21 Dec 2022
21 Dec 2022 10:11:09
Eds 002, there's a mention above regarding mortgages, can the club borrow the Bellingham fee and there by pay the cost in a lump sum, obviously interest cost but if I remember right in the jota transfer we payed more than his valuation due to payment installments IE interest.

Have a great festive season wherever you are.

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure that the owners will want to keep adding debt and devaluing the club.}

22.) 21 Dec 2022
21 Dec 2022 17:54:26
@Quigz, mostly two reasons - one is some people have a very short concentration / attention span, particularly since social media showed up, and the second is that what we do in, say, the January window will probably have a direct impact in July’s window.

If we bought (or arranged deals for July to buy) Bellingham and Fernandez, it’s possible that we would look for replacements for Bobby and perhaps even Mo in July. if we don’t sign / agree to sign Bellingham and Fernandez in January we would probably get another six months of the fans pantomime of ‘oh yes we will’, ‘oh no we won’t’ sign Bellingham, Fernandez etc.

The good thing is that the club seem to be planning ahead a lot better these days and it’s only really us fans that focus solely on the next window.

What is the clubs debt at this moment Ed002, thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - It will be clearer in February but something like borrowed £197M of £200M raised as credit through mortgages although £30M appears to have been paid plus monet owed to FSG circa £71M - something like £238M.}

£198.3m as of May 2021 - the last accounts published, and now nearly two 1.5 years old. Swiss Ramble breaks everything down here on Twitter

Accounts to June 2021 to June 2022 accounts will be published in March, which will see a significant increase in revenue due to the booking of the new shirt deal with Nike, and increased commercial revenue.

Doesn't mean we can spend like there's no tomorrow, but debt will be slightly lower as the cash position increased.
