I was privalaged to have been at the game last night in what was a superb atmosphere and performance. The first 20 minutes was a struggle because they played us at our own game with a high press encouraging us to play the ball back to Karius so he would have to kick long for their defenders to win in the air and the midfield pick up the second ball. We got a grip of this, Hendo taking the bull by the horns and we started to use the channels for Mo and Sadio to wreak havoc especially Mo. Scoring 2 and assisting 2. I felt the turning point was when he went off. The Roma defenders were on the alert looking for him even when they had possession going forward. They were anticipating a quick counter and so were restricted when going forwards. When Mo went off you could see their back four and midfield loosen up and this gave them the confidence to push on and become braver. This, mixed in with tiredness resulted in the last ten minutes of pressure we had to endure! Dejan Lovren was immense last night he was first to the ball and got his head and foot in when needed. VVD is just world class, never seems flustered and always seem to have oodles of time on the ball, organising superbly. Robbo and TAA had good solid games. Hendo immense a real captains job leading by example. Milner ran his heart out and used all his experience to help the team. Gini has a tidy little game in midfield, should have scored but this post is not to bash players, it's to appreciate the total commitment and 110% effort every reds player gave on that pitch last night. Ox, hope you have a speedy recovery. Im sure all your thoughts and prayers as well as mine are with the poor fighting for his life after the appalling incident last night. It has no place in football. Appreciate it's a long post but just to finish off with a comment a Utd fan made to me this morning. "Salah will go to Madrid or Barcelona because your a selling club". I grew up watching Liverpool when Hansen, Thompson, Fairclough, Kennedy, Neale The King etc in the days of success after success. I've lived with the nightmare of Utd dominance over the years (pains me to say it but they were good to watch and deserved their success) . I feel the momentum is growing and nights like last night and another top four finish will have undoubtedly shown that we are moving in the right direction. We are a much more attractive proposition for players hungry for success and we can now truly attract the very best. Don't get me wrong, we don't need a lot, a couple of players as well as Keita for next season . Selling club? Let's see. Come on the boys finish off the job in Rome!

Great post, Barr. As for the Utd fan running his gob, I guess it is all they have to hold on to cos they were embarrassed by the Mighty Seville and wish they were us and wished they had Salah and our front 3 ripping it up instead of the donkey in Lukaku, the mercenary Sanchez, the useless Martial and of course, Carlton Palmer I mean, Pogba, all scrounging along with Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Barr6969 Loved the positivity of your post, been a long time lurker and rarely make an appearance to comment. Your post is more what we need to show as fans, players as people are far from infallible and lovren did look immense last night, comparing him to the world class Hummels tonight he made less mistakes, such a shame he had the one error. His confidence has grown this season, i wonder if less fans were on his back and supporting him would that improve further?

All in all, looking where the club is now I agree it feels like the united i grudingly enjoyed watching in the late nineties, counter is swift, phenomonal attack, getting to be solid unit at the back with 100% performance all over the pitch.
Completly agree with your sentiments towards Ox but more importantly to Sean Cox from Dunboyne. Thoughts and prayers are with a fellow Irish red and his family.

Thank you for your kind comments chaps. BRover, love the new name Carlton Pogba. IrishKopite, same as you mate been reading the site for years and just wanted to put a balanced and fair opinion on. I love the club and would love us to bring back that trophy from Kiev. But there is another couple of battles to be won. Did I think we could win it prior to the City game? If I’m honedt no, not because I didn’t think we had the ability to beat City over 2 legs but because of the quality left in the competition. But I really do believe we can win this now although not complacent to the fact we have a tough second leg to come and a superb opponent should we get through. I’m quietly confident. All the Ed’s, thank you for all your efforts with this site and allowing us to share our thoughts and opinions of our great club.
