Completely agree with us playing better with 10 men and I feel if vvd hadn’t of been sent off and we’d carried on with Trent playing that inverted role we’d of be turned over.

looking back at all 3 games this season, i think Nunez is a better striking partner for Salah than Gakpo given that Salah isn't really making as much runs in behind as he used to.

anyways he deserves a start after this performance. against deep defending teams u could argue Gakpo might be a better choice, but if there is space in behind, Nunez is devastating in terms of possible options to play a pass, especiallly with players like Salah making those passes.

and yeah, we should stop this inverted full back tactic.

1. Salah's assists are going to increase more than actual goals this season.

2. Szoboszlai looks the real deal. Hope we don't run him to ground as he is only 22.

Gakpo played the first two games in midfield.

In fairness Nunez scored two on Sunday so he does deserve a start.

For me Jota gets the brunt end of the stick but he has 1 goal and 2 assists in 3 games.

I thought Nunez and Jota’s link up play with each other was also good to see on Sunday.

With 10 tactics go out the window that’s why we are better, doesn’t look good on the managements pep / Klopp whoever is responsible I don’t care but as a unit they are not doing well!

Will no doubt revert back to normal at weekend.

would love to see a banner on The Kop saying "Ditch the inverted fullback"

I just don't understand how the problems are so obvious to everyone but Klopp.

Is there not another football team who thinks Pep Lijnders is a genius and wants him as manager?

With Gordon, it was amazing that he rode the challenge from Szobo, two hands on his back, to then get to Trent and then he flopped to the ground at the brush of his shoulder.

I fully understand the calls for it to be a yellow, but I really like what Robbie Earle said about it - basically that we always ask the refs to apply some common sense to their rulings and in that case, perhaps that is exactly what the referee did. Looked like he gave trent a talking to in the vein of "you're on thin ice mate" and that helped settle the game.

For Nunez, I find it difficult to see how he starts consistently except as a rotation or if we set-up to play more direct.

Pep (the best coach in the world) ljinders

Great post tris
I am suprised at klopp I will admit having pep have so much influence. We are only getting by due to our insanely good attack which most teams in the league can only dream of . Go back to basics
4-4-3 and let’s try to build some momentum and see where we end up .

I don’t think klopp needs to get rid of ljinders but I do think he needs to change like you say . We looked terrible that first 30 mins on Sunday .

{Ed001's Note - if Lijnders could find a way to get away with a 4-4-3 then he really is a genius!}

Good read Ed, the fact Gravenberch seems the most likely signing suggests we’re persisting with this Lijnders ‘system’ so we’ll have to strap in

Here’s to hoping we get a red card every week.

{Ed001's Note - that is what worries me, we seem to be buying on the premise of playing this way.}

15.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 11:29:12
Yeah that’s my concern too. Apart from arguably the most important signing of we do continue with this, an LCB. No sign of one of those arriving so I don’t see how this can possibly work.

16.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 11:22:38
What does Peter Krawietz do ……is he involved in the tactics at LFC? He makes copious notes during the game…. thought he was looking at game management issues so is he connected with the inverted right back tactic?

{Ed001's Note - not according to Lijnders, who has claimed the credit for that and many other things that he 'thought of' (ie copied from someone else).}

Only ljinders could invent the 4-4-3 ?

Ed 1 if I could ask who would be your choice of coach if the club where to replace ljinders.

Or would you suggest like you mention in the game review maybe add someone as a bit of a naysayer and keep ljinders obviously really well liked and seems a decent guy just believes his own hype I think . But someone needs to be pointing out these errors from the club as over a season they will catch up to us . We are one of the easiest teams to play against that shouldn’t be right.

{Ed001's Note - if Lijnders ego can handle being told he is clueless about tactics and to stick to coaching, then just a naysayer. Otherwise I don't know, I am not sure who is around that has a tactical knowledge to be honest.}

Awesome read, Ed01. The officiating? In the NFL, we call that serious, old fashion "Home Cooking", for real. As for our performance, We did struggle (shocking, I know) with this system but I thought at the start, both teams were pretty slack with their passing in possession prolly due to the pace and intensity both teams and Newcastle esp. brought to the game. Either team's passing was not good at all for the first 25 mins, IMO.

As for the changes, Klopp got those spot on, completely schooled Eddie Howe (for the upteenth time) and his lackey of an assistant, and showed once again, why he is a tactically astute esp. the shape we played that gave Newcastle fits and left them clueless cos they simply could not hurt us the way they thought they could after VVD was off. Also on the first banger by Darwin, I noticed that Burn kept following Salah into midfield which opened the lane for Darwin to run into vs Botman and the goal happened. Brilliant.

As for "The greatest manager the world has ever seen", we are now witnessing the modern day "Narcissus", the Greek who looked into the a pool of water and fell in love with his own reflection. Seems like he does that each day before going on these podcasts and interviews.

{Ed001's Note - I really wish Lijnders would just remember he is an assistant and read up on what truly great assistants such as Joe Fagan and Bob Paisley did while working as assistants. His obsession with talking about himself and what he has done for LFC is disturbing.}

Good read, Ed. Feels like the longest running saga ever with this galaxy brain having so much influence on tactics (or lack of them) . We are lucky that we have so much firepower, for now.

{Ed001's Note - it is very lucky but how long can we keep getting away with it?}

20.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 12:38:38
Spearman (the head of data) must be feeding the data driven evidence of the games and effectiveness of tactics across various game states to Klopp. So the numbers won't lie.

To be fair to Klopp, when he describes the games in post match pressers he usually says it as it is ie we didn't keep the ball, we didn't press like we should, we didn't win the duels we should etc etc. Though, that worries me even more. He sees it and carries on.

21.) 30 Aug 2023
30 Aug 2023 12:53:12
Do you think we will change next week Ed? No more inverted stuff next week? Personally don't see us changing it anytime soon which is baffling because even regular fans like can see that this system is a mess.

How can coaches of world class football club can't see it. Even Klopp didn't see it or choosing to ignore it. Maybe he need his glasses back. Seeing someone on twitter saying we has successfully turn Trent from being a world class right back into a confuse player right now.

{Ed001's Note - I think they are determined to make it work, I don't understand it but there you go.}

It'll work but we're going to lose Robbo from the starting 11.

And if it works we could have TAA, Szbo, Mac, Gakpo, Diaz, Salah and Nunez. In attacking positions.

Need a left sided center back. That's the missing piece. then ky has a real chance to work. And I for one want to see it in action.

Robbo would then go in rotation with diaz and/ or play back in a 4 for certain games. One of taa or robs has to be benched. And robbo isn't trent in the middle.

You'll have mac, sz, TAA jn a rotation between 6's and 8's. However, it's a disaster with robbo as a left sided center half.

Then the new back 3 needs time to bed in. And not get sent off.

FlyPelicanFly, if he is saying all this stuff and nothing is changing then as Ed01 said, they are determined to make this system work, come hell or high water.

That can't be good cos if the manager is going to play a system just to prove a point that it works cos his mouthy assistant who's level of arrogance only matches his level of competence and hubris has convinced him that it will, definitely cannot be a good thing.
