Good morning/ afternoon your side ed001,
Henry Winter ( a pretty respectable journo ) was discussing why we didn't move for Guehi. Apparently we spoke to the players camp and basically said if you really want to come to Liverpool you'll wait until the Summer, City were aggressive and moved in.
I honestly couldn't believe what I was hearing!
How arrogant are we? This isn't the 1980's and to think other teams wouldn't make a move, especially knowing city were in the mix. The same with Semenyo, City negotiated a payment structure over a four year period, something that fits into our remit and yet we stand still.
Whilst there's issue on the pitch, we are clearly just as bad off the pitch, thoughts mate?
{Ed001's Note - isn't that pretty much what I have been telling you all along? That we could have had the deal all done on 1st Jan but refused to do so. It is moronic work, especially as we are so desperate for a decent centre-back! Hughes and Edwards were a massive mistake.}

Whereas I'm not sold on Guehi as a starter, there's absolutely zero argument that he wouldn't have improved the squad, particularly given how short we are in depth for centre back and fullback positions, his positional flexibility offers that quality that James Milner had, plus he's home grown. As for Semenyo, absolutely baffling, not prohibitively priced, home grown, scores goals, creates them, physically strong as an ox, hard working, lightning quick and can accelerate past defenders like they're not there.
There's no argument that any of our current wingers are better and given we are very much lacking a cutting edge would have made a huge difference. Short sighted at best, negligent at worse.

Drogie, Ed said this already a couple of days ago. I often thought that Palace just didn't want to sell MG to us BUT he clarified that and frankly, it wreaks of incmpetence and arrogance, as you say.
Not sure if these suits have taken a gander at where the club and the team currently are. Or maybe they have and have said, "Good process, boys. We're still on track".
Hughes and Edwards should be sacked for that alone.

I think under klopp players would have waited the extra couple of months to play for him and us. The current setup doesn't have that pull or magnetism.

Ed1, I agree completely.
Remember all the people over the summer practically demanding apologies for everdoubting Hughes and his role at the club? All those smug "I told you so" posts? Yeah they've aged so well lol.
It's not exactly a laughing matter, but it is amusing how many were acting like he was God's gift, desperate to be smug about it at the time. It was gob smacking just because we signed a few star players who had sights only for us!
The truth is, whenever effort is required, Hughes simply doesn't step up. In the summer he didn't sign the players we needed - he signed the players who wanted to come, all while showing a complete lack of negotiating ability in regards to finances. We were desperate for another CB then, just like we are now, and he's proven once again that when effort or resistance is involved, he hasn't got a clue how to handle it.
I will acknowledge what happened with Guehi at the end of the summer wasn't on him but it should've been dealt with and prepared ready for January, he had months to sort this and he bottled it. We lost out on a player who clearly wanted to join us, it's absolutely gob smacking.
He was a terrible appointment from day one. I've seen others say on here, If slot is sacked - we should see the back of Hughes as well and I couldn't agree more.
If we got rid of slot today, I'd be happy but at the same time very concerned if Hughes keeps his job, same goes for Edwards.

Got to say Salah, I agree with you, I was one of those people who thought Hughes did well (never posted as I wasn't an active member then) but humble pie tastes good when your able to admit you made a misjudgment like I did on Hughes!
