There’s a question I’ve been thinking about for a while, but because I assumed I knew the answer I haven’t asked it. But has any club in the PL era, ever been in the europa league and won the PL in the same season?

I assumed the answer was no as I can’t remember it being the case unless it happened in the 90’s when I would have been too young to realise it happened. Apologies if this has been asked and answered before.

Since the inception of the premier league no, English First division yes believe Liverpool won it in 73,76 when it was the UEFA CUP.

We've been top at Xmas 6 times and not won 5 of those times, sadly. Interesting to look at the top at Xmas teams that haven't won the EPL - see below - and also that City have only been top at Xmas 3 times, but won 7 titles!

92-93 - Top at Xmas = Norwich, Champions = Man Utd
95-86 - Top = Newcastle, Champs = Man Utd (I would LOVE it! )
96-97 - Top = Liverpool, Champs = Man Utd (sob)
97-98 - Top = Man Utd, Champs = Arsenal
98-99 - Top = Villa, Champs = Man Utd (wow, Villa! )
99-00 - Top = Leeds, Champs = Man Utd
01-02 - Top = Newcastle, Champs = Arsenal
02-03 - Top = Arsenal, Champs = Man Utd
03-04 - Top = Man Utd, Champs = Arsenal
07-08 - Top = Arsenal, Champs = Man Utd
08-09 - Top = Liverpool, Champs = Man Utd (FACTS, sob)
13-14 - Top = Liverpool, Champs = Man City (THE slip, sob)
18-19 - Top = Liverpool, Champs = Man City (sob)
20-21 - Top = Liverpool, Champs = Man City (sob)
22-23 - Top = Arsenal, Champs = Man City.

he whole"Top at Christmas" thingy is overrated and has always been overrated. It means nothing and LFC are in the best position to know this. It's not how you start nor what the result of at half time is (which is what the Christmas period is) . It's all bout and will always be all about how strong you finish.

If you are top by end of March, that is when the title race begins, not in December where a lot can still happen. Just my take.

Title race starts at 32 games in for me. Should be no title talk until then. I know spurs are the exception to this having won the league this year by the end of September, a feat that is unlikely to ever be repeated ?.

What about teams who are top of the League on November 11th or February 9th? I’m lucky in that I’m one of the ones for whom Christmas has always been a really good time but as one of 365 days in the year (or 366 next year) it has nothing to do with who wins a football competition.

The title race starts at the first game of the season. If you don't have the points already on the board it means nothing come March.

So we should avoid being on top at Christmas.
