What's everyone's thoughts on Nunez's overall game and how he's done for the first half if tge season?
I've had lots of discussions with friends who seem to think he isn't the answer. I personally think his overall play is good. I think the goals will come when he relaxes a bit.

Slightly above average. I’d say yes he should score more but hopefully that comes with time… everybody seems to go on about him missing chances and laughs but nobody says how he is constantly getting in behind every single defence 3/ 4 times a game just pointing out his negatives he runs defenders ragged and tires them out.

20 games played 9 goals 4 assist in all competitions, if he carry’s on at that rate he’ll end up with 20 goals and 10ish assists, people forget I believe this is his only 3rd season in top flight European football.

I like him, he's unconventional and causes panic in defenses, his pace catches teams constantly, his ability to find space in dangerous areas then outpace his marker makes for great watching, his technique issues seem to come from him redlining every single thing he does, he seems stuck in ludicrous speed so the concentration needs to match which so far it isn't, but he's a headline in every game and I love it.

I think if we ignore the price tag and expectation mate then he’s done well.

It’s no coincidence that all these chances fall to him and he seems to create havoc and confusion to the opposition and even our own players sometimes. The great thing is despite his sending off against Palace he never seems to be affected with the chances he misses and just carries on with a smile on his face.

His assist last night for the 3rd goal was from pure pace and determination.

Loads of his game needs work on but on the other hand there’s loads of positives to it as well.

I think once he gets into rhythm he’ll be ruthless, he’s a chance magnet, he’s still raw but similar to benfica he didn’t score many in his first and loads in his second, once he’s settled in next season I think he’ll score a bucket load. I love him he’s pure chaos and makes stuff happen.

5.) 27 Dec 2022

He’s an absolute menace and causes tears past defenders as if they’re not there half the time. If he can improve his finishing, even by 10 or 15%, he instantly becomes a world class player. I love his overall play but his lack of confidence in front of goal/ generally poor finishing is frustrating.

He s improving. Hoping he can put it all together and we ll have a real superstar on our hands. But a way to go yet.

Love the standing ovation the fans gave him coming off. Love will motivate players far more than abuse.

Not rating him tbh. Looks like a sprinter trying to play football without understanding the game. That’s my biggest concern - his decision making is so poor.

I never judge a player on their first season in the premier league to be honest. They have to settle in to their new home, country, culture and league as well as their families. I think he’s adapting well though, he can be rash at times but he’s young and still developing.

I also think with Klopp as his coach he will certainly only get better and improve on things such as finishing etc.

Great signing. Scores a goal every 2 games. Lightning fast. Runs his heart out. Never hides. Will only get better IMO. Constant menace to defenders.

0 concern over Darwin. He’s creating chances, causing havoc, and getting in the right spaces to score. He will go on a rampage with some confidence.

I think he’s a bit of a maniac at the minute. I certain he himself doesn’t know what he’s going to do next. You can’t argue with his work rate tho. I think most players would have gave up on that ball he somehow got to for our third yesterday. More composure needed and he will be on fire.

13.) 27 Dec 2022
27 Dec 2022 15:06:57
I love the kid. His movement and ability to get himself in goal scoring positions multiple times in every game he plays is second to none. What he needs to work on is his composure and that will come. If he sorts out his composure and finishing I truly believe we have a potential world class talent on our hands and I firmly believe that. Polish his finishing and work on his composure will see him score 20 plus goals per season on a consistent basis and that’s purely based off how many chances he gets per game.

Everything about him is great just a bit unlucky with his finishing. Love the way he winds opposing fans up with the eye rubbing after he been getting stick. My new weekly football bet is for him to score hat trick and we win 3 nil.

OP, it depends on what people want to focus on. When you have Sly making a compilation of his misses then you know the agenda is out on him, for real. People who don't like him and have dug their heels in will ALWAYS see the negatives in his perfs. even in the games he actually scores goals in. Others who want to openly give him a chance to succeed or fail on his merits are more measured and coherent in their assessment.

To me, he has been very good overall all things being considered. Darwin is a rough diamond that needs the rough edges smoothed out. His flaws can be worked on and are coachable like composure, better and quicker-decision making, shot placement and knowing what part of the foot to use depending on where he is around the box.

That said, he is an absolute menace to society that every team has to account for for 90 mins and he has the exact manager who created the legendary Robert Lewandowski as his manager who hand-picked him as his new CF, flaws be damned so I'll let the man do his magic. Darwin will be fine, IMO.

I like his pace and directness, his finishing needs improvement, but that will come.

He's a young lad in a new league in a new country.

Just give him time to settle in.

27 Dec 2022 15:26:25
It’s frightening how quick he really is, Very strong, get into the right areas, has everything apart from being clinical in front of goal. But I honestly think that will come. I’d be more worried if he wasn’t getting any changes.
I also think sign Gakpo is brilliant and will help nunez. A front 3 of Gakpo/ Diaz Nunez/ Jota Salah is amazing and throw in Bobby (if he stays) Carvalho, Elliot then we look very strong in that department.

I am no expert! But with my limited understanding, i can say that his passing and first touch has improved massively compared to the start of the season. I don't know whether it has been improved by our coaching staff or if has happened with more understanding of our system. But all the initial concerns of a player who couldn't create chances with ball at his feet are now all gone for me. He has a great attitude and keeps working hard. I still feel Mane was much more dangerous when he joined us, but this guy will be an extremely potent weapon for us going forward. And i firmly believe this.

The beast will break all our goal scoring records over the next 10 years imo.

20.) 27 Dec 2022
27 Dec 2022 16:33:23
I think he will be an excellent player for us, pace, power, workmate, ability the only thing he lacks is composure at the final pass/ shot. I think that will stop him being world class. Of course he can and probably will improve that as he gets older but I'm not sure he will enough to get to the v v top.
But I certainly think we will get our moneys worth out of him, don't think I've ever seen him play a game where he couldn't have quite easily had a hat trick! Including the 2 games against us for benfica.

21.) 27 Dec 2022
27 Dec 2022 16:33:35
Gonna have to score 35 a season over ten years to catch rush an I don’t think rushie played for us that long ( 10 yrs) goal machine.

22.) 27 Dec 2022
27 Dec 2022 16:42:30
Also, he didn't covert it, but I was impressed by his volley on the long ball. It was on target and the keeper made a nice save. I normally don't expect a volley like that to be anywhere near the intended target, haha.

27 Dec 2022 16:39:03
I think the goals will come. I think his confidence is just starting to spike a bit which is good news.

As mentioned by others, I'm excited that his issue isn't effort. He's shown incredible energy and work rate. Right now he just has to get that finishing up to speed with the rest of his game.

I will say, his pace shocks me. I know it was an attribute that all teams were looking at, but he is blowing by defenders regularly now. I'm really excited with what any combination of Salah/ Diaz/ Nunez/ Gakpo can do, with Doak getting some minutes as well.

Love how he’s willing to take a snap shot from almost anywhere. That confidence is encouraging and will wrong foot a keeper more than a few times a season.

Thanks for all the reply's. Nice to read all the positives about him.

His potential is off the charts. Extra finishing training is much needed though. He using the wrong shape of shot on many occasions. When he was clean through he needed to bend it in the far corner like Henry or Owen but he bent it away from goal. It’s hardly ever going in with that shape of shot it would need to be perfect.

Best thread on here in ages - great to see everyone getting behind one of our lads. Top post.

He’s edge of the seat stuff. Love watching him. And once he starts scoring he’ll not stop. Not worried about him at all - apart from maybe his hamstrings.

{Ed025's Note - and his eyesight.. :)

Deffo WDW - not everyone settles as quick as Haaland, Darwin will evolve into a great player!

LFC need to go all out to keep Bobby for a season or two more. Any new comers need to learn from the masters.

I remember Thierry Henry wasn't all that in his first season at Arsenal. Luis Suarez was a different animal goal wise after his first season too.
Nunez may never reach those loft levels but there's no doubt his pace and physicality will cause enough havoc in defences for others to hopefully capitalise with the goals from the chances that are created.

33.) 27 Dec 2022

Nunez is unpredictable, sublime, insane and ridiculous, all in a 5 minute passage of play.

Nice little jab Ed025 made me laugh ??.

{Ed025's Note - the goal was wide open mate...i could hardly miss.. :)

Didn't Salah and Suarez miss a good few chances early doors? ✌.

Salah still misses good chances laddie bunting
I think people will have to eat humble pie when the lad starts bagging on the regular.

I really appreciated James Milner’s opinion of Nunez in his recent interview with Ben Foster.

I think he has seen his fair share of top strikers over the years to rate his assessment, over the vultures at Sky who are looking for the latest carcass to pick over.

Spot on Flash. People forget when we signed Suarez we were all saying exactly the same things. Gets loads of chances but can’t finish. Not a natural goal scorer blah blah blah.
Darwin will be unstoppable once he settles down in front of goal. His finishing for Benfica last season was outstanding and even Klopp commented on how calm he is in front of goal after we played them.
Give the lad time he will be one of the best strikers in the world.
