Konate played right off a back three at RBL, I’m wondering if he was possibly bought with this tactic in mind. Sure, there’s an error on the ball, but everything else was exemplary and he showed just how intelligent a player he is tactically to be able to cover the area so astutely. I think matip and Gomez are struggling in that role IMO, whereas it looks natural for Konate.

One summer a swallow does not make and was against shattered opposition, but I was loving the tactics. First real control of a match for a while.

If we're moving towards that system we probably need to bring in a left-footed centre back who can also operate as a left back. Allows the back 3 to shuffle across when Trent moves forward and I worry Robbo isn't disciplined enough to play that position, we need whoever it is to stay back most of the game. Robertson's run as a guaranteed starter should be almost over by now anyway to be fair, someone like Levi Colwill might be a decent option.

Konate for RBL and Gomez for England both look well suited to playing RCB in a back 3. Could really get the best out of him. Worth noting that Ndicka plays LCB in a back 3 and is a player we're interested in too.

Having a left footed CB is not a bad thing to have in the squad anyway.

Levi Colwill is a great shout but doesn't sound easy to do.

Whether this 3-box-3 system is something we do more of next season is still open to debate.

Robbo's weakness isn't necessarily discipline but rather he is not technically good enough to invert or use his weaker foot. He has often been seen as the press trigger for the opposition as he can get trapped on his left foot.

He's still the best left back in the business but perhaps doesn't have the technical ability to play in other formations if needed.

Good point FPF. Robbo's right foot is for standing on haha!

I can assure you Konate wasn’t signed with a back 3 in mind. We’ve had no “Plan” for ages when it comes to Transfers.
No midfield, 4x left wingers, no Salah back up, £80m Nunez Substitute every week, no real Trent back up… the list goes on.
I think our bad form, injuries, and the fact that none of these games now matter, has helped us stumble across a new formation where we get the most out of Trent (millions of LFC fans been calling for him to be used in this hybrid role for years) not me btw I still see him as a right, back but it looks as if Those fans were 100% correct
I just hope we sign some decent players in summer, and we can look back and say those new players, and the new formation, were Worth writing the entire season off.

Have to disagree. I think Ramsay will be an excellent signing. Once he recovers from injury - he'll slot into RB whilst TAA goes into mid.

Gvardiol is the absolute perfect left footed center back and arguably the best in the world today.

Liverpool FC8

You can assure us can you? You're aware of all the goings on at the club and their transfer policy, strategies, tactics, personnel comings and goings?

I have no inside information Baked Bean.
But what I do know is we signed Arthur Melo

That’s all the proof I need to know, we have no idea what we are doing.

What you mean is you have no idea what the club is doing. I'd say considering what the club has achieved since Klopp came in proves overwhelmingly that the club knows what it's doing.
One off season doesn't mean you wipe out recent history in favour of pedantic pessimism. Unless you have a particular mindset of course.

I don’t see Robbo as being an inverted LB in the same vein at all. Maybe I missed it or wasn’t looking for it, but the tactic seemed to barely affect the left side or at least was aimed to disrupt the left side as little as possible. We just added an extra phase or shape in the transition. Almost like 433 in defensive, 3223 in transitional/ counter press, 2143 in attack. Hendo had to be ready to cover more so, but Trent and Ibou had to be well on it tactically, and would have to be 100% concentrated for it to work properly moving forward.

I still am not sure why we can’t just stick with what has been so successful over the last years as I don't think it’s the bodies, but the tactics which have been our main undoing this season, but this option offered a possible hope for what could be if they wish to persist in trying something different. I love Trent as a full back, but we may just see the best of him as a playmaker.

Perhaps the saving grace of this dismal season is that we are now in a position to be able to experiment with the tactic as we have little more to lose.
