I just want to give a massive congratulations to City for their domination and likely ongoing successes.

It obviously has nothing to do with the $2BN spent over Pep's time, or the numerous accusations and cases against them for FFP irregularities.

Joking aside for a moment, I think we should note that the only team able to beat them over a season over the last 6 years was LFC, on a fraction of the budget, and that should say it all in terms of Klopp and the clubs over achievement, while at the same time continuing to invest in the infrastructure of Anfield and the training facilities.

The reality is that LFC cannot compete financially with City, Newcastle, Utd, Chelsea and perhaps even Arsenal they way they have been spending over the last couple of windows. But, in my opinion, we do have the best overall coach out there suitable for LFC. So, regardless of whether you feel we should spend more and blame FSG for that, or blame Pep Linders for a change in tactics, or blame Tierney for being, well Tierney! etc etc, let's all get behind the Manager, the team, the club as a whole and make Anfield a noisy fortress again next season.

YNWA.

Just imagine the force we could be if we actually had owners who were obsessed with being top dogs on all fronts even to the extent of the women dominating, best youth set up, best manager, players and ultimately a bottomless pit of shiny gleaming money . Somebody save us!

I was listening to 5live on Saturday and they were trying to say Pep is a genius as he’s never signed any players that are the best in their position other than Haaland. They used Akanje as the proof.
Apparently most in this City team were unknowns until Pep made them into world class players.
They obviously forgot about Ederson, Diaz, Walker, Stones, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Silva, Mahrez, Grealish, Philips, Cancelo, Mendy, Ake, Aguero, D Silva, each of whom cost between £50m and £100m and were very well known as top, top players before they went to City!
Honestly I had to turn it off the media just make stuff up to suit their agenda it’s absolutely ridiculous!

Let's be honest, Guardiola is the best coach in this era. Yes, he's got the luxury of resources at City and can afford to make recruitment mistakes but the level of consistency and hunger to win year after year is relentless and he should be respected for that.

I don't like him personally and don't imagine he's a barrel of fun to be around.

But you cannot argue with his ability to coach teams and keep the intensity levels up year after year.

As for City, the club - they are relentless in their pursuit of accumulating a new history of success and at the moment, nothing seems to be able to stop them - even as many as 115 allegations of cheating. They have the financial power to lock you up in legal processes for years - by which time they will have kept accumulating silverware.

I see they are even trying to win the Net Spend trophy these days. A great excuse for fans to finally drop Net Spend as a measure of investment.

You really can’t separate Pep from the financial resources.

Could Pep have won titles with Spurs and their resources…. With Klopp and others as contenders?

No way of knowing of course but I suspect Klopp would have a couple more trophy’s on the winner’s wall at Anfield.

Pep is a first rate coach but he has always had the most resources in each club he managed.

Would mean more if he coached and won at Borussia Dortmund and LFC.

Regardless of what City have or haven't done in terms of financial doping, I just feel the fun has gone out of the PL these days. Even when United dominated the league, it was still fun, as you had other teams winning cups etc. These days, even if City are 10 points behind and losing a game 2-0, you just know that they will come back and win that match and then eventually close the gap on whoever is leading.
At no point did I ever think City wouldn't win the title this year. I didn't even take notice that the title race was over, whereas previously it was an exciting time of the season, even if Liverpool weren't involved. All just feels a bit boring.

I think this arsenal collapse when they had no other competitions to play really puts our two second places in perspective. On both occasions we were fighting on multiple fronts till the end and took it to the last game with over 90 points.

Particularly last year. Yes we didn’t win it all but to get where we did, and push that city team to the limit, took a phenomenal effort.

It was only a few months ago City were having an off season like us.

Gracious in Victory and gracious in defeat I have to say City are a hell of a team and Pep is hell of a coach. He’s basically got 9 outfield players outplaying 10 every week and allowing Haaland to be the tip of the spear.

He’s also turned Grealish the countries most selfish player into a team player.

Pep is world class but Jurgen is my manager and I wouldn’t swap them for the world.

Would guardiola have won what Jurgen has won under this ownership model? For me not a chance!

{Ed002's Note - Which ownership model is that.}

Tommy is right. You can't separate Pep's achievements from the financial resources that he has had at his disposal. Resources that he was not entitled to. I'm not a criminalogist by any means but cheating is a mild word considering the financial consequences (winning titles) of using those resources. Fraud is a more apt word.

Top manager? Definitely. Top tactician and strategist? Also definitely, even to the extent of overdoing it from time to time. Personality? Seems to be a cool guy, he smiles a lot in comparison to others. Straight, upstanding guy? Definitely not.

They will spend yet again and probably land the best defensive midfielder on the planet in Kimmich.
Kimmich Rodri and De Bruyne. Vs Mason Mount ?
We cannot expect to compete at all, I think they’ll do back to back Trebles myself.
But one things for sure. It’s damaging the Premier League to see the lack of true fans when they win the title every year and nobody is even there, it’s very very bad and it’s turning it into a second rate championship.

Pep has a winning mentality which he translates really well onto his team. He is relentless as are the teams he coaches.
However, it’s very easy to have a winning mentality when you know you have the best players in the league to call on. When you know that if someone drops their levels you can just get rid and replace them with the best out there.
It’s very easy to be relentless when there are no limits to who you can bring through the door.
It’s very easy to keep your players’ desire at the top level when they know they can easily be replaced no matter how good they have been.
You could say that Pep is a great tactician but is he? No matter what tactics he employs they will win the vast majority of games so he can experiment freely, knowing that more often than not the sheer talent of his players will see him through.

Tommy is right. You can't seperate the spending power of City from Pep. He has always had the best team even when he was coaching the Barcelona B team who played in their league with the best talents the world has ever seen vs teams who had nowhere near that quality. I think it's the reason why you can't judge him cos it seems like he has to have the best team in order to even take a job. It's how he rolls and if he's going to keep doing that then, he should be ready for the smoke that comes with people diminishing his accomplishments.

15.) 22 May 2023

Could Pep do what Klopp did with Dortmund?

Every club he’s been to he’s had virtually unlimited funds. Klopp never had that. He’s done amazing at Liverpool against a club that appears let’s say to be doping financially.

To be honest I think if you swapped roles (JK to City and PG to us) and left all other factors as they are the difference would be that we don’t win the League or CL and City win the League for the past 6 seasons and then the CL more than once.

Waro, tbf i think Pep would of had people like Keita, Ox etc gone and replaced with others sooner.
