Hi Eds. hope you're all well

I am a huge fan of Javi martinez (bayern player). I note that he doesn't get much game time (mostly due to his injuries) and when he does he ends up playing out of position in defence.

Any news of his future at Bayern? Any chance of LFC being interested? I know the likelyhood is that we aren't but I am hopeful!

Finally on Rodgers, IMO our performance in CL should have resulted in his sacking. Especially when he fielded a second string against Real. I know people will say we didn't do badly but I don't think they watched the game and only saw the end result. Real we're wasteful and could have easily put 6 past us.

{Ed001's Note - Martinez is a player that is happy in central defence or as a defensive midfielder, it is not playing him out of position any more in defence.}

Ed would that make martinez a possibility? CCheers.

{Ed002's Note - Not at all.}

Thanks for the response Ed. Always felt that the DM position was his best.

Thanks for the great work. Love the site.

By any chance is there an app?

{Ed001's Note - not yet, we do intend to get one made one day, but it costs money.}

Hi Eds and fellow posters.

Hope all are well post Brexit.

Having read posts from other posters there seem to be a lot of doom and gloom regarding our transfer activity. Especially with the names we have been linked with.

I, on the other hand, am extremely pleased so far. I definitely wanted a new keeper to come in. I do believe a lot of our defensive frailty is down to the goalkeeper. The defence drop too deep. Mignolet doesn't command this box. Karius is very highly rated and a very good all round keeper who despite his young age has had a lot of experience in a very good league. He will give Mignolet competition and will have to step up his quality. I do believe a good keeper whether mignolet steps up his performances or Karius establishing himself as no 1 will result in a much better defence.

Add Matip and we have an aggressive but ball playing centre back who also plays the DM role. Skrtl looks like he is leaving. Good servant but deficient in his positioning.

Sadio Mane looks almost sealed and yes he isn't the "marquee" signing fans want. But he has pace and score goals. Something we lack at the moment.

All in all I am extremely happy. A left back and a midfielder to complete our transfer incomings.

We have a lot of players linked to be leaving - skrtl, benteke, Allen etc.

All in all I am very optimistic for the coming season. I do believe no European football is a blessing in disguise. Players haven't had a summer. Liverpool have a lot of players in the euros (plus the olympics) so a long season and the style we play I could see us dropping off on the second half of the season.

I am happy with the clubs plans so far.

Agreed, happy with all the recruits, not just for their individual talents, but because they all solve for very specific deficiencies we had in our squad.

Now that Benteke is pretty much sealed and I am sure we all have an opinion of how good/bad the signing is.

For me personally he has all the attributes of being a fantastic signing. Comparisons to Carroll and lambert are misleading. He is quicker and much more mobile than both of them and much better technically. Yes can be head the ball - but he def has a lot more on his locker.

My concern is that in a lot of games I've seen him play he comes across as lazy and lacking movement. He sometimes fluctuates between indifferent to frustrated which leads to his demeanour of resignation.

Concerns posted on this website are whether we will play to his strength. Which I do feel have merit but for me whether he will play to the strengths and style of the team, ie pressing game and lots of movement. He def has the attributes to do so - A la drogba or even Costa.

None of us really know what benteke is like and whether he has bought into the Liverpool philosophy and style of play.

Sorry my post was incomplete when submitted.

I just wanted to add that I hope and trust the coaching staff to have assurances that Benteke has bought into the style of play and is committed. As we should not only play to his strengths but also he should play to ours.

My main concern is that there seems to be differing opinions on whether he will come good. For £30 odd million there shouldn't be that divided opinion. For that price we should be guaranteed.

Alias, there is a post on here from a Villa fan who has watched every minute of Benteke playing for Villa and gave a great analysis of why he will be great for us. It worth a very good read. Regarding your post, I agree that his ability is not in doubt. It is his apparent laziness, lack of desire and unwillingness to compete in big games like the FA Cup final, are the issues I have with him. If he can realize that this is the moment where he can elevate his status a world class and if he can show that he can improve his attitude and determination on the pitch, he will flourish due to having better player around him. I defo hope he can because if not, it will be another Andy Carroll fiasco

There would be various reasons for not looking at other players for example how much money would you stump up front, some clubs would need s huge chunk right up front for their future commitments.

This was one reason Sterling transfer dragged whole month.

Really happy with the signing of Firmino (albeit a season late - better late than never I guess). Has great potential but I really like his work rate and that will endear him to us fans no doubt.

Would love a Specialist DM (rather than a versatile player who "can" play there, out and out striker and a keeper). Doesn't look like we will get a keeper which is a shame!

But we really have to trim down the squad. We have a lot of players that need to be moved on.

I am still hopeful that Brendan will go too. Not a word from him regarding the coaches being sacked or the players that have been signed. I know he's on holiday but still surprised not one word. The conspiracy theorist in me hopes he's getting sacked. Here's to hope.

I would love Biesla to come in. I know he doesn't speak English. But he's a brilliant coach. Any body who watches his teams can see his imprint on them. For me language would not be a barrier for him to work his "magic".

By the way eds love your site, the banter and your occasional put downs. If you had a choice of head coach/manager for Liverpool - who would you want? -

AliasDoe

{Ed007's Note - Neil Lennon.}

1.) 25 Jun 2015 07:17:27
Neil Lennon? He doesn't speak English either.

2.) 25 Jun 2015 08:57:00
Great shout ed7!

Eds what's your opinion of Biesla (think that's how his name is spelt). I've always been fascinated by him and his coaching style. Wherever he's managed one can see his imprint on the team.

I know one of the eds mentioned that in the last season (when we came second) a change in style after Xmas when we went on that winning run came after he gave advice to change the style and system we were playing.

I know he doesn't speak any English but how would you feel if he managed LFC?

AliasDoe

{Ed030's Note - I assume it was Ed001 who you saw mention him as he likes him a lot. Personally I think Bielsa is a great coach who has vastly improved every team he has managed, He also develops players excellently. As for his style he is a manager who likes to play fast, attacking football with a huge emphasis on pressuring the opponent. }

1.) 21 Jun 2015 00:33:36
Bielsa for Liverpool !!!

{Ed030's Note - I wish. }

2.) 21 Jun 2015 00:52:01
IMHO.

1) Bielsa

2) Emery

3) Klopp

4) Ancelotti

{Ed030's Note - I wouldn't like to rate them in an order. Personally I rate all 4 of them although Ancelotti has had it slightly easier. }

Mandzukic and kongodbia - seem to be off to juventus and Inter. Would have loved both of them at LFC. Ed. what's your thoughts on mandzukic ?? I find the comparison to dzeko a little simplistic.

AliasDoe

{Ed030's Note - Very unfair to compare Mandzukic to Dzeko, Mandzukic is far more hardworking and offers a lot more to his team than Dzeko does, also a better finisher than Dzeko. }

1.) 21 Jun 2015 00:07:47
Thanks Ed. definitely agree. I think he's a very good player and plays the lone striker role well. As you said he is very hard working And offers a lot to the team. Good buy for Juventus - and at the price (I think it's £14m) seems to be snip for a proven goal scorer - would have loved him at LFC.

{Ed030's Note - No problem. }
