Think a lot of the big teams look a bit lethargic myself so j aren't really fussed with the performance. The more time on the pitch the better we gel.

Think we need to get players closer to Benteke.

Clyne won 100% of tackles, 100% ariel duels. Lovren played well, probably his best game for us.

Clean sheet, 3 points. Improvement on the retrospective fixture of last season be a LONG way. I'm happy

Thought the team pressed very well. Thought lovren and clyne played well and benteke won everything. I thought Gomez was dodgy enough at times though and played the wrong ball a few times which is probably just down to lack of experience. 1-0 win away to Stoke is probably the result of the weekend so nobody should be complaining. can't really judge the team after the first game of the season anyway. Arsenal lost 2-0 at the emirates to West Ham and everyone reckons they will run Chelsea close for the title

The team only pressed well after Can came on and played the DM position which unleashed Hendo and Milner on the opposition. The first half was a snooze fest

The thought of Coutinho and Firmino REALLY excites me. I don't even think he's what we need but when a quality player like him comes up in the market then you don't say no. He is a pure FLAIR footballer. This signing is up there with Suarez and Torres and that they have shown obvious substantial amounts of quality with a LOT more to go.

This is a step in the right direction, I hope we follow this up with perhaps Bacca and Clyne. Then focusing on shifting players out,

Man am I going to look silly if it doesn't eventually finalise.

Bower

{Ed007's Note - Never mind looking silly if it doesn't happen, emphasising 'really' the way you did makes you sound kind of creepy, just remember and wash your hands :)

Hi all, just wanted to know, is it just me that still has hope for Lovren??

When we signed him I was pretty sure that him and Sakho would be an immense pairing. This was only reiterated in the friendlies he played for us, although they weren't the highest level of games obviously, he seemed to fit in perfectly. As soon as the competitive season began he just fell to pieces.

To be fair to him Rodgers is happy to constantly change the most important place regarding stability on the pitch. He feel like his drop in confidence then transitions in to other players, in particular Mignolet.

At the beginning of his Liverpool career I remember him being one of the most vocal on the pitch, however this doesn't seem the case anymore.

I strongly believe he is actually a good players, I remember how happy some fans were, probably the majority after his signings and his preseason. He did very well for Southampton and Lyon, surely this must be a mentality problem. Obviously if played with Sakho he would be on the right side; not his favourable position but it shouldn't matter too much. I would really like him and Sakho to get a run of games in preseason together. Or if not then Sakho and Ilori.

I just really feel we can't move forward at all with Skrtel playing, I will support him while he's here but feel our system doesn't cater towards his strengths and this is massively exploited at times only masked my his goal saving theatrics.

Does anyone agree? Or not

Bower

{Ed002's Note - It is really Sakho or Lovren rather than Sakho and Lovren.}

1.) 15 Jun 2015 11:08:12
He just needs confidence IMO.

2.) 15 Jun 2015 11:23:21
It absolutely baffles me when Rodgers declines to play Sakho and Lovren together. Arguably our best performance last season was the 3-0 win over Tottenham away where Sakho and Lovren started together (one of few if any times they did).

3.) 15 Jun 2015 11:39:47
Lovren is definitely one player who needs to step up in a big way. His performances last season was close to amateurish, but I do hope he steps up; easy to say that but difficult in reality to achieve that In a team coached by Rodgers.

4.) 15 Jun 2015 11:42:07
My take on the defensive situation:

Skrtel is the culprit of our defense at the moment, as he has little defensive awareness, which leads to him often being out of position. His fellow CB then has to cover some of the gaps Skrtel creates, hence his fellow CB looks poor.

Furthermore, the transfer committee/Rodgers has chosen to pick Lovren and Sakho who previously has had cover in form of Waynayma, Schneiderlin and Matuidi (all great DM). BR doesn´t want to play a DM, and it can be seen that especially Lovren is used to have someone to cover for him, as he´s often out of position. It doesn´t mean that Lovren is a poor player, just that he doesn´t fit the formation we play.

As I see it, Skrtel won´t be able to improve his part of the game, he is to old to change his mentallity. I believe that Lovren will improve (though I still can´t believe we paid that much for an average defender) if he will get another CB (who can hold his line) and that we start playing with a DM.

5.) 15 Jun 2015 11:46:48
Ed, do you not think Lovren would be as capable as we would need him to be, if he was playing as a right sided cb?

{Ed002's Note - That was not why he was purchased.}

6.) 15 Jun 2015 12:30:55
I was going to ask why we would purchase a left sided cb, only to purchase another one 12 months later. Even though the first one we bought is good enough?
Then I thought well why would we buy a promising young cm and play him as a right sided cb and send a promising young cb out on loan twice without even giving him more than 45 Mins to prove himself, then it dawned on me. Skrtel is Pinky and BR is the brain! Problem solved.

7.) 15 Jun 2015 12:57:53
Lovren should be switched to RCB or learn how to tackle with his left foot. He always tries to make tackles (even slid tackle) with his wrong foot - that's why he gets done so much.

8.) 15 Jun 2015 16:41:02
Lovren like Clyne, excelled at the saints because it played a true DM ahead of him along with a competent partner next to him hence, a system that allowed them to thrive At LFC, you have an incompetent manager who plays we pretty much NO DM when Lucas is benched for SG or Allen and you have an incompetent partner in Skrtel to partner him. Spot the difference and you`ll see why the boy is struggling. As for Clyne, he is the same as Lovren. If he plays in BR`s system, he will struggle.

Obviously Stats don't tell the whole story of how good a player is but here's some interesting relevant ones on Ings.

He scored more goals than Sturridge, Balo, Borini and lambert put together in 35 games than their accumulation of 40. According to Sky's stats he has a higher chance conversion than all of these. He furthermore has more assists than any of these players. I understand it's obviously hard to reach any sort of form when you're in and out the side and plagued with injury. He's had to play Infront of The midfield maestros of George Boyd and Dean Marney, who are clearly streets ahead of Coutinho. Exactly.

He's going to be our 2nd or third striker. He scored more goals than Evertons £28m one last season in a much worse side.

At the end of the day if it doesn't work out if we we're to sell him given his age and the fact he's English we would gain our money back on him. IF, which I hope he does do well, he clearly has a lot of potential. I would, go as far to say that if he played I in a Quality side he wouldn't be that far of Harry Kane.

I just think it's sad to say that a player is written of before even kicking a ball. Must be a great confidence boost for them.

Lukaku scored 20 in all comps

2.) 08 Jun 2015 21:35:58
It's not his fault,, but this Striker-Transfer was supposed to be the most important for our club in a LONG time. We are absolutely failing again in the window and everyone can see it

3.) 08 Jun 2015 21:56:43
Give the kid a chance, I really rate this guy. I'm sick of so called supporters slating players before they hau ve even kicked a ball in vein for our great club. fair enough, there is a lot of dead wood to be got rid of butUn this guy will prove to everyone that he is TOP class. Coutinho to ings = GOALS. 😁

4.) 08 Jun 2015 22:00:35
He has not been written off by the vast majority of sensible liverpool supporters. He is young, talented and has joined a better team. As Aldo has said, he is a great buy with loads of potential. Enjoy life in Liverpool Danny, do you natural thing and the supporters will love you.

5.) 08 Jun 2015 22:07:40
The window hasn't even opened and we have gotten two good additions. Total failure.

6.) 08 Jun 2015 22:08:40
No DBol, I really can't see it. Maybe perhaps because we are only a couple weeks in?

And we have more deals done than any other top team in Europe as of right now; two of which have been free transfers, aside from the fees that accompany them.

7.) 08 Jun 2015 22:13:40
Well said Bower. Great signing 2nd best striker at the club with another maybe to join him and Origi and had Arsenal, Spurs or United signed him everyone would be saying we missed out. I feel they have missed a trick there. Welcome to LFC Danny. He will need to grab his chance when it comes.

8.) 08 Jun 2015 22:15:46
DBol, your use of capitals - you're not suggesting we buy Shane Long, are you?

I feel as though Austin is a better natural goal scorer than Ings but Ings is a better team player and fits better in our system
