Hi All,

I work at a Football news & analysis company. Word at the office is that City have returned to us with an improved £40m package. They're ready to spend £200m this summer and Sterling is a prime target due to his home-grown status.

No word on whether or not Liverpool will accept this. Personally don't have an opinion on it as it's just an aggregate of what our social team tell us.

Cheers

Dprince

I'm not saying this isn't true but didn't one of the eds say yesterday that Liverpool haven't responded to city's first offer yet.

Id find it hard to believe that city would come back instantly with a 40m offer but I could be wrong.

Anyway out of interest what kind of price would you want for sterling?

2.) 13 Jun 2015 08:12:56
My gut feeling is he will end up at Real!!

{Ed001's Note - why? They have not shown any interest.}

3.) 13 Jun 2015 09:35:24
His going city anything above £40m will do it I think

4.) 13 Jun 2015 10:15:58
This is true also heard from reliable source

5.) 13 Jun 2015 10:30:04
I don't mean to doubt your company, but how do you suppose Man City justifies spending £200 million, even with the relaxed FFP rules?

6.) 13 Jun 2015 10:42:21
If true just have to accept. It's basically this £40m or half season of poor attitude, performance, team disruption and constant negative press headlines. Followed by a Webster ruling, more drama, more of everything else and LFC left with nothing.

Please, can't wait for it to go now

7.) 13 Jun 2015 11:44:24
Webster ruling won't happen here.

8.) 14 Jun 2015 03:41:26
Once a satisfactory deemed amount is offered . from whomever, (United the only possible exception), the owners will definitely sell!

Whilst their footballing acumen and sense may be questionable their business acumen isn't, irrespective of what Rodgers may or may not think or say, they (the owners) will not risk holding onto a asset that is viable and can presently command a relatively high fee, rather than keep him and watch it "depreciate".

As the Eds have mentioned time and time again the Webster rule is indeed a possibility (if it ever came to it) and with Mr Money Hungry Ward pulling the strings don't be fooled into thinking that he wouldn't advise Sterling into "employing" it if the occasion arose . if the player is as genuinely as unhappy as it has been purported and portrayed in the media then the owners will sell!

I am starting to be concerned that Can will eventually (not saying any time soon) leave us if we don't play him as a midfielder.

I keep reading interviews where they ask him about his role, last season saying things like how he sees himself as a midfielder but will do whatever for the team.

This season saying he's most concerned about playing games, but again would prefer a position in midfield. It seems to be a real niggle for him.

1.) 01 Aug 2015 05:59:24
There is chance that he might want to leave next summer. One reason Milner was never needed. I am not sure where would BR fit all the three B2B players in the same team.
All this talk of Can Replacing Lucas is simply ain't happening to me.

2.) 01 Aug 2015 07:33:23
For me Can needs a season loan in a PL club to play a full sesson at dm. I just don't think he's quite ready to start at dm yet- not in a club who are aiming for top four.

3.) 01 Aug 2015 08:01:31
Anonymush

And y do you think another manager would play him at DM when he is not at the first place?

4.) 01 Aug 2015 08:01:40
How was Milner not needed because we have can? Every time can played in midfield he was not all that and gave the ball away loads. If you really want to go through a whole season with a player learning on the job then prepare for another shocker! Anyone still doubting the fact we needed someone like Milner is stupid. He will be class all year long!

{Ed001's Note - I am sorry but saying he will be class means that we needed him is a stupid quote. To assume others are stupid for having a different viewpoint from you is pure arrogance. I am far from stupid, but I am still 100% sure we did not need Milner at all, no matter how well he plays next season. As for a player learning on the job, that is the stupidest comment of all time. If a player is not learning then he doesn't deserve to be playing. Every player should be learning every single day.}

5.) 01 Aug 2015 08:50:07
As a young poster I take a lot of pride in thinking quite similar like you Ed01. He is very much like Henderson and a midfield needs only one Henderson. We needed a different player to Henderson and Lucas ( Rossiter might be ) if not then play Countinho as the third midfielder.

6.) 01 Aug 2015 08:51:42
None of last seasons signings impressed on the pitch including Emre Can. He was the best of a bad bunch IMO. Milner and Firmino will be more dangerous than Can and Lallana

7.) 01 Aug 2015 09:22:55
Harry, the thing to remember is that Can is a quality player, and I believe he will be a CL quality player in a year or two, but at times in mf he gets overrun, or loses concentration.
A mid table team will play that level of player because they don't have any better options. But a club will not make top 4 with a young dm who is still learning some key aspects of the role.
For his age he's a class act in every way, and he will become a beast of a midfielder in time, but for me he isn't a top 4 quality dm. Not quite yet.
To get into yhe top four now, every department has to be performing very well, and those odd little lapses and lack of awareness will cost us those couple of points over a season that will see us fall short of a CL place.
Thats why I'd loan him for at least half a season specifically to play dm. Its no disrespect to the lad, just normal development practice.

8.) 01 Aug 2015 09:44:45
Hey Ed have to disagree with you on this one. Milner is very much needed, he brings to the table hard work and experience. I don't think he will affect Can's development in midfield.Ofcourse this is assuming BR does the right thing which is far from a sure thing.
And I don't know what you mean when you say that we don't need him no matter how well he plays. We need every bit of help that we can get.

9.) 01 Aug 2015 10:42:13
Agree with anonymush. Can's not ready. He has not acclimatised to the pace of the Premier league yet and slows down the pace of ball movement too much.
In 13/14 one of our strengths was the speed we moved the ball, it was a major weakness last season.

10.) 01 Aug 2015 11:24:00
So now Can is not ready just like Markovic? Can is pretty much read and what he needs is regular game time unfortunately he wouldn't be getting at Liverpool FC.

11.) 01 Aug 2015 11:52:44
Can holds onto the ball far too long, hopefully that he can learn to pass quicker with more experience.

12.) 01 Aug 2015 14:53:31
This is just not right if you see the potential in a player and think with game time he will become a great player then give him that game time. You can't just pick a team and say Can you are going there son. It doesn't work that way he deserves to play he is a good player and will become better with game time so let's give it to him

13.) 01 Aug 2015 14:11:57
In what respect did we not need him ed? He better than went out the door and equal to what we do have! He bring much needed energy into midfield as well as a touch of quality! Not needed is tosh we have upgraded that is all you can do in a transfer window!

{Ed001's Note - how have we upgraded? He is a carbon copy of Henderson in midfield, so brings nothing we didn't already have, but with a better player in Hendo. If he plays wide, he is average. So what exactly has he upgraded? He runs around a lot and provides energy, so did Robbie Savage, but that is not what we need. We need top class, not another energetic mid. Sorry but good as he is, he has not improved our midfield, he has just added another option on ludicrous amounts of money. Rossiter will now have no chance of getting games, Chirivella must be wondering what the hell is the point of him coming here. All he has done is blocked youngsters from playing time. The only tosh is the fool who thought it was a good idea to spend millions on a player who offers nothing to our long term hopes of competing for the top 4.}

14.) 02 Aug 2015 05:42:05
Spot on, Ed! I have posted the same thing numerous times. And to those trashing Can, you have no idea what you are talking about. When Can played well, BR himself called him a Rolls Royce and now some here say he should play where he's told, be sold or go on loan. Do you even listen to yourselves? You mean like Wisdom has been on loan for three years or like Suso got tired of waiting and left, Ilori has been on loan for two years already, or is it Marko who is next? Talk about a club in shambles and some fans trashing a player that BR can't get the best out of YET he bought him. Pathetic! Can will leave and those trashing him to cover for BR's failures and incompetence will rue the day that happens. As for Milner, he was never needed and adds nothing we don't already have. If he's class then he's class and experienced at being a back up player full of energy and nothing more.

Just speculation, but Benteke may well take the vacant number 25, last worn by Reina. He wore the number at Liege, Genk and Kortrijk.

Benteke should take the No.9 in all honesty.

Hi again guys,

Sorry I didn't respond to those who replied to my post about city offering £40m for Sterling a few days ago. Looks like I was a few days ahead of the press.

Can't shed any light on to whether or not this will be accepted, so I won't lie to you guys and make something up. What I can do, though, is give you all some context. I have access to an extremely large database through work, of every pass, every cross, every take-on of the last 5 seasons of premier league action.

Let's not forget that selling him for £40m would make him the 17th most expensive player of all time. Players that have sold for in the region of £40m in the past include Ozil, Mata and Figo. Stats on Figo I can't get, but taking a look at Mata and Ozil's production pre-transfer can give us a fairly decent (but by no means conclusive) insight on to whether or not we should accept this transfer.

The link below is of a comparison matrix of the three in the year before their transfer (or prospective transfer):

http://goo.gl/4viQO5

We can clearly see that Sterling is in an entirely different ball park to these two. Now, hopefully that will quell those asking for £50m+ as that is quite obviously ridiculous. £50m would be daylight robbery in itself, anything in excess of that is just absolutely outrageous. Think about how good Torres was when he went for £50m, Sterling couldn't even finish a rice pudding.

The other factors that need to be taken into account are his home grown status, Manchester City's disregard for the laws of transfer physics, and his age (as to say his potential). These all magnify his potential fee, but if I were Liverpool I would be seriously looking at this £40m offer.

Let's also remind ourselves that a young Eden Hazard who was destroying Ligue 1 cost Chelsea £32m a few years back. £50m for Sterling is a joke!

2.) 18 Jun 2015 07:27:27
Sanchez cost less than 40 Million
Willian cost less that 40 Million
Isco cost less than 40 Million
Eriksen cost less than 40 Million

This, in my opinion, is an incredible offer, let the kid go

Hi Eds,

Great job you've been doing all window, all credit to you for putting up with the numerous Suarez rumour questions!

Just to verify, I had read somewhere that as long as a fee is negotiated by the deadline you can actually complete medicals etc as long as 48 hours after the deadline? Is this true?

Please post on Rumours page so every one can see!

Regards {Ed002's Note - You have to submit the signed paperwork to the FA by the deadline.}
