Eds I'm looking for your opinion on wether or not there will be a sizeable amount of money available in the January transfer window for klopp to be able to put his stamp on this club? Otherwise Brendan might as well of stayed on until summer in my eyes?

Thanks

Johno004

{Ed002's Note - No there won't be.}

There should be no need to spend sizeable amounts. We don't need to go through all that again. The squad has enough quality to challenge if it is managed properly. It is all about using existing resources properly which Brendan failed to do repeatedly.

2.) 06 Oct 2015 14:07:16
I'm getting rather worried people are jumping the gun. I know it sounds likely he will join, but Klopp has only held talks (or his people have anyway). Let's just wait and see before we all start hyping it up.

3.) 06 Oct 2015 14:07:49
The rest of this season should be just to take each game as it comes. For Klopp to get to know his players, to generate some stability, confidence and defensive solidity. See where we are at the end of the season or even the final run in. We should still be challenging for 5th place imo

4.) 06 Oct 2015 14:14:35
Nonsense. Rodgers wasnt sacked because of the players he bought. It was his tactical ineptitude, his ego and the the lack of squad harmony. Are you saying we should have put up with the awful footbool for a full season because we can't buy our way out of it. That was the Rodgers solution, and it clearly doesn't work when the tactical system is flawed. that's why we're now going for the best options available. Managers who know how to get the best out of what they've got. Klopp or whoever comes in will be fully aware of the financial restrictions and so will be taking the job under no illusions and they will feel they can improve the current crop of players. Klopp will make his stamp on the squad by getting us tactically coherant. We don't know how good this squad can be under a real leader and when everyone understands their role within a system.

5.) 06 Oct 2015 14:52:10
Exactly, Cmac! BR`s way is just spend, spend, spend and see what sticks. if it works, he takes all the credit and doesn`t even mention that the TC was involved (not that he needs to) and when it fails, he implies that he`s being stifled by said TC and blames everyone else. We will now see how good this squad can be under a manager (Klopp, I hope) who is tactically astute and knows what he is doing. As for the rest of the season, just take it one game at a time. There are 30 games left. that's almost a whole season in some countries (Germany play 34 league games and Portugal plays 30 games a season. there is still a lot to play for and we are not far off so allow Klopp to be Klopp (if he`s in and let him work. i had no expectations this year so nothing changes for me. i`m just excited with the prospect of going to watch a game and knowing we can win instead of just hoping we draw vs Norwich.

6.) 06 Oct 2015 15:03:10
I think January should be used to off load some players the manager doesn't want.

Theres no need to be buying players as that time, we can save it for the summer and use the CL money we will have lol.

7.) 06 Oct 2015 15:43:06
This team without realising it has been built for Klopp.

Brendan wanted to or more to the point had to play 4-3-3, every other formation just seemed a stop gap till pressure went to continue pursuing it.

This squad of players now will sing to klopps tune, its a high press counter attacking team (13/14 any body). Hendo will be back to his best, firmino, sturridge, ibe, ings and the one i'm most excited about is lallana under klopp. Not one of these players are possession based players, there direct using pace and power.

I have no hesitation to say that we won't need any signing other than a gk to have this team flying again, where they end up is another thing but if there is one person I would like to be right now it will be klopp

Another point is he gets to take over a 300 million pound squad and for as long as we don't really buy anyone everyone will say he did it without spending haha jammy sod

If it happens then the above will mean something, fingers crossed.

Eds i believe we need a cm and I'm a big fan of Tielemans from Anderlecht and I also no that klopp loves him, will that be an option to pursue? He ticks alls the boxes foe fsg aswel.

8.) 06 Oct 2015 15:50:43
No I'm not saying we should have stuck with the awful way in which we approached games but I feel there was a naivety around the signings we made. Can you see James Milner being someone klopp will be licking his lips wanting to work with? Or our totally inadequate centre halves keeping clean sheets and playing the klopp type of football? I'm not saying he got sacked for the players he signed but I feel a lot of our player types are stock piled. I really believe that a major problem is finding positions for both firmino and coutinho in the same 11 but I'm hoping klopp does this. Do stureidge and Benteke play together? Perhaps getting to january like you say will be a time to offload and maybe give klopp just enough to get one or two players in. The end of the day he has bought players cheap enough in the past who have been major sucesses. I guess I shows the benefit we would of had if he was appoint in the summer loaded with 80m

9.) 06 Oct 2015 16:54:52
Yeah but john you're just contradicting yourself, you said we should have stuck with Brendan for the season if we can't give Klopp a pile of money to fix the team? And then go and least a lot more reasons why it was right to get rid of Rodgers. Yes whoever comes in has a lot of cleaning to do but most of the arguments against you are you saying we should have kept rodgers because we can't throw money at cleaning up his mistakes.
Just looking at our squad and then looking at the system Klopp played at Dortmund. Not that we'll defo play that way,im sure it will be determined by our squad, but just as a template. Milner actually could work quite well,he could play wide right in the blaszczykowski role. Its playing him as a centre mid that was madness.

I guess I'm just trying to understand the timing of it cmac mate. End of the day I'm over the moon if it comes off but it would of been so much wiser and exciting had he been appointed 3 month earlier but I guess I'm being greedy. I hope your right regarding Milner btw.

I really hope klopp does come and get an extra 20% out of each player then I really do believe that we will be in with a shot at top 4 which I believe we have anyway with the league being so weak/inconsistent.

I for one believe that he will want to move people on in January and believe there will be a little bit of cash there for him to spend, but that's only gut feeling. My one area of concern though if we aren't going to bring in centre halves until summer we really need protection both in front of them and behind them so let's hope a gk and cm are on his list

I'm sure people on here play too much attention to Fifa 15 and football manager games, 'Use Sinclair for cup games' and 'Ings as 4th choice'. Get real we need to build a squad and get players competing with players that are capable and make the player who has the shirt earn it for the next weekend. Danny Ings given the opportunity could become a good signing although not world class or even international class at the minute he has earned a move to a bigger club and knows where the net is.

I've said it before we need more 'steel' through the spine I just hope if Rodgers stays he realises we need characters and winners more than pretty 'technicians' end of the day why can't you be both?

I agree, we've signed strikers before from smaller teams & the went on to be massive for this club, Rush & Aldridge didn't come from Real or Barca, the came from Chester & Oxford, Barnes came in from Watford, I know it's different times but who's to say a player like Ings can't make the step up with quality players round him, l'd rather get Ings for the small fee, who is young, has an eye for goal & hungry to make himself a success than waste tens of millions on a big name striker with an ego who will hold the club to ransom of thing don't go his way & may not even suite the English game. Before people clamour for the likes of Martinez, Cavani, Benzema ect, don't forget some of the big names who failed, Shevchenko, Morientes, Crespo, Falcao, Veron. We simply can't afford to risk big money on one of these

2.) 29 May 2015 00:01:49
Our squad is full of talented young players and our academy has talent as well. The reason those legends succeeded is because we had tactically astute managers who knew what they were doing and had integrity and a backbone to make tough decisions. All we need is a manager with similar qualities (cough Klopp cough) to bring it all together. If Ings is desperate to join us then I'll support him because he REALLY wants to be here and fight for us and who knows, he just might surprise many of us.

Hi

I'm really worried about the way which we just stock pile and throw money at forward players and take the approach 'if we throw enough mud at the wall some will stick'. I think if Brendan was as clever as he tries to make out he would realise that we need players who can both win playing pretty football but also if we need to fight and battle we would be able to do that too. I think brendan is very naive and I for one don't want to be a club that just sacks managers willy nilly but I'm finding it hard to defend what is going on. We need leaders and players that show there metal when needed. We need a winning mentality back at this club. I just worry this isn't the direction we are heading to. Thanks for your work eds

Apparently we are where we should be! 5th!

2.) 02 May 2015 11:09:02
As Macca said we have the 5th highest wage bill in the league, so 9 out of 10 times we will finish 5th or there abouts. With no CL football next season the only thing that will attract players is going to be big wages competitive with the top four. So we need to sell the dead wood, including Sterling who plainly has no interest in being a Liverpool player any more, and Ballotelli etc, and when they as well as the big wage earners who are out of contract in Gerrard and Johnson are off the books then the wage bill should have more room for maneuver. In comparative terms if you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

{Ed002's Note - I think you will find that the league is decided on points won as a result of the games that are played - and not the wage bill. "Dead wood" is an offensive term that no decent supporter would use about players at their own club - but hey, it is the New Liverpool way. Idiot.}
