Eds, Has any club shown any interest in Allen this window?
Considering if any better pedigree out there, I would swap either one for another quality Midfielder.
Both aren't adding anything to the team, I am afraid.

Boom

{Ed001's Note - Swansea did.}

1.) 26 Aug 2014 12:50:33
Ed01, Thanks mate, Now I need your view on this. Its been sometime Allen with us as much as Borini. Borini is moving out with a label not good enough. Y not Allen then? ( don't wanna force someone out)
But what's the actual reason for this.
TBH Borini had a much better spell than Allen over the past 2 years.
I hope you saw the last match, I must agree with some poster, We need an upgrade on both Lucas and Allen to challenge the title.

Medal is the one which we missed.

Would love your thought mate.

{Ed001's Note - I don't see the problem with Allen at all, he is not what we need but he is not a bad player. There are others that are holding us back far more than he is.}

2.) 26 Aug 2014 13:24:15
Thanks Ed01, You have a great week ahead, Hope we smash Spurs on Sunday to go right back where we belong.

3.) Ed 1 if your about which players do you think are holding us back?!

{Ed001's Note - Johnson, Skrtel and the use of Gerrard in every single game for every single minute.}

4.) I still see purpose in keeping Allen, but he won't be first choice, but the type of player that he is, is nothing like any other midfielder that we have. He will be useful in certain games. i'd rather let go of Lucas before Allen tbh, but midfield isn't really a position that were struggling with, its the defence and GK harry.

5.) I don't see the problem with Allen whatsoever. Johnson, Lucas and Gerrard to me are bigger concerns. Allen had a great end to the season when called upon, and has never let us down. Could just as easily be Allen receiving the, slightly over enthusiastic, adulation that Henderson is now enjoying

6.) I have to say that Allen is improving but he needs to be played in a position that suits. He is nowhere near physical enough to play deep .

I agree with ed that we need to prepare for life without Gerrard and to me Can is the one to come in to give Gerrard a break and to also provide competition.

7.) I'd say that Johnson, Enrique, Agger, Skrtel and Lucas need to be moved on.

We already have replacements for them in Manquillo, Moreno, Lovren, Sakho and Can who should be played together regularly in order to improve.

I don't think Gerrard is holding us back as such, but he doesn't provide adequate protection for our back 4. I still think he could provide something further forward like Yaya Touré does for City.

Red Rum

8.) Harry
You have made it quite clear you don't rate Joe Allen.
He has a role to play in our squad and gives his all every game. He doesn't run 40 yard with the ball or dance through tackles but his ball retention and movement off the ball to always show and receive a pass is top drawer.
Admittedly he could improve in the final third and hopefully this will come. He is a young improving player and I thought he was one of our better performers last night.

9.) Thought Allen was quality against City

10.) Gerrard is holding us back as he is playing for 90 minutes yet is incapable of performing for 90 minutes. He could barely jog towards the end of the City game and that lack of stamina and mobility will be exposed time and again. We play with 3 central midfielders, this seems to be a standard, with 1 of them being Gerrard. The problem for me is that Gerrard just isn't a natural defensive midfielder - sure he can ping long passes about - but his reading of the game, to occupy that defensive midfield role, is not good enough. As a result one of the other playing is required to cover Gerrard's positional and physical weaknesses: this means the midfielder covering Gerrard is unable to fulfil his own role - this, I suspect, is why Allen was somewhat underwhelming against City (though personally I thought he was fine). Gerrard's weakness is our midfield's weakness, it was exposed ruthlessly against Southampton (a game we were fortunate to win) and again, as the game wore on, against City. I would still say Skrtel and Johnson are by far the most detrimental to our team but make no mistake, Gerrard's inclusion and 90 minute spells are damaging the entire midfield. It is something Rodgers needs to address.

Eds, if you are around here

Reports coming out, Lucas is nearing an exit on a loan to Napoli with an option to buy next summer?

Do you have anything on this?

Boom

{Ed002's Note - See earlier answers.}

21 Aug 2014 11:18:17
Heard Jackson Martinez would replace Balletolli at Milan.

Eds. Is there any interest in Martinez from Milan?

Boom

{Ed002's Note - Porto are prepared to cash in on Jackson Martinez with varying degrees of interest from Valencia, Milan, Inter, Arsenal, Roma, Napoli, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City, Spurs, Galatasaray, Juventus and Barcelona in recent months. However, whilst Porto were seeking a lot of money for the player (two bids from Juventus were turned down and Milan baulked at the original asking price) it left only Inter with a "creative" financial solution and his representatives talking to Valencia - which seemed the likely destination. Porto have now dropped the price a fair amount and Milan are talking to them about taking the player in the next few days.}

1.) Why don't we go for him? i'd take Martinez anyday of the week over Balotelli

2.) 21 Aug 2014 17:02:50
Ed002. Thanks for the reply. Could you tell me Milan would would get Martinez for more or less the amount we pay for Mario? ( Let the amount be X).
I rate Martinez, He is a fantastic talent.

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to get in to the money Harry. You really have no idea what Balotelli will cost.}

20 Aug 2014 17:42:38
Eds, Searched the whole search engine,

Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Looks a promising player, lethal finishing and good pace. Anything you would like to add regarding a move?

Boom

{Ed002's Note - I would not expect to see Liverpool playing Mitrovic this coming season.}

13 Aug 2014 10:04:11
Hai Eds and Reds

Banter please

Liverpool in for a second round talks with Etto with the player wanting a 135k per week, One year contract.
Papers reports

Thoughts.

Boom

1.) Posted yesterday I would welcome him. Not on those sort of wages though!

2.) So he was willing to move to Ajax on 35k a week but wants 135k a week for us? Did you get this rumour from viz?

3.) Even his agent knows that he will be lucky to get half of this, if not a third, in his age, but you can always start high and you never know, if we or Everton or someone else are desperate for a striker someone may offer him 100K a week. I would have paid him 13k rather than 135K a week (still huge salary) plus 50K for every goal plus 25K for every win achieved when he is on the pitch plus big trophy bonuses.

4.) You have got to be kidding me. My rubbish detector is ringing

5.) Hoping this is a joke

6.) 13 Aug 2014 17:01:16
They would undo what has been a good summer by signing him imo. Can Ed002 confirm whether there is any interest?

Thanks

{Ed002's Note - I am aware that his representatives have spoken with Liverpool. I am not convinced it would be a good move for the club, but he brings experience and, of course, goals.}

7.) He also brings a pension book, bus pass and meals on wheels. I'm here all week!

8.) I'm not sure on the E'to signing tbh. I was hoping for Bony personally, but wherever E'to has played, even at Chelsea he has a 1 goal every 2 games ratio, which given the chances we'll create again this year, sometimes you just need a clinical finisher. If it was E'to and one other striker in when Borini is sold, then it would be fantastic business. Just E'to and I'm not convinced.

9.) My spelling of Eto'o wasn't too clever either

Why does Kopp always wait till 60 minutes plus to make his first substitution. Then next one in last 10 mins. If it's not working what's wrong with half time substitutions or even first half. It would give the players a kick up the arse and give the sub (s) time to make an impact.

If he dosen't fancy Sturridge or Original give one of the young lads a chance. Not saying a full team change like in cups (although after Hull?) .
Bringing on or starting one of the kids will see what they can do with experienced players around them and I'm sure the crowd would back them more than some of the dross we have on show.

We all have our opinions of which players should stay and which should be kept. I know not all the young lads will make it but if one or two could come through it would allow Kopp to spend the money on players we definitely need.

Don't say the kids are to young. If you are good enough you are old enough. Was Gerrard, Owen, Fowler ect to young. When I look around if a player at a top. team isn't playing regularly by 21-22 years of age chances are they won't make it at all.

Boom

1.) 06 Feb 2017 17:32:24
Because he doesn't want to disrupt the flow and rhythm of the game and the tactics. A new player could be a wrong sub or a right one which is a gamble. He trust his first eleven to finish the job unless they are being dominated by the opposition which has never been the case. The problem is his tactics towards teams who sit back and absorb the pressure.

2.) 06 Feb 2017 18:18:44
Agree with some of that but earlier substitutions allow the new player or players to get into the game and so influence the flow and rhythm of the game not have to rush around trying to get up to pace and make an influence. I don't mean late substitutionsummer are always bad and they can work but when it's obvious things aren't going well change it don't wait till its to late.

3.) 07 Feb 2017 05:23:52
I agree with Boom if something hasn't worked for 60 minutes then it is a strange assumption to make that it will somehow work in the next 20 minutes but, if not, then we'll change it with barely any time for the impact of such change to be felt. If things aren't going your way substitutions should be made quickly and decisively - there is no guarantee of success but good substitutions are were managers make their money - just waiting until its too late is not what any world-class manager would do.

{Ed001's Note - was Paisley not world class then? How many times did he change what the team were doing? If you have belief in what you are trying to do, then you don't want to change that for something you don't believe in.}

4.) 07 Feb 2017 06:46:45
Paisley had world class players and leaders all over the pitch. It wasn't very often he had to make substitutions because the players on the pitch couldn't change or adapt to the game. Plus Paisley had only one sub not the 3 we get now so we could change one player at half time and still have more to change than Paisley had.
The players now are now where near as good and we have no leaders on the pitch.
All managers even Paisley had a plan B so they want the first 11 to do well and win but they know it dosent always happen so they also believe in the subs they have can change the game or they may as well not use any subs with your argument.
We all know Paisley was a brilliant manager but you offer a very poor argument using him as an example as they way sub substitutes are use now is completely different to Paisleys era.

14 Oct 2014 10:33:14
Eds. Soemthing aside Sterling and England.
If you remember. Who were the keepers we were interested in before Mignolet?
Was it only Begovic?
Someone said here, We looked for a top class keeper for more than 6 months and came with Mignolet?. I can't believe this.

Boom

{Ed001's Note - we were looking, and continued to scout Trapp, Navas (that joined Madrid in the summer) and there was at least one other ruled out as it was felt he was too old to be a long term option. By the club, not Rodgers, I should point out.}

1.) 14 Oct 2014 10:53:07
Do you recollect any concrete offer for either players. A failed Bid may be. What were the circumstance that lead us to capture Migs?
I didn't had much on Navas. Trapp is a great prospect and don't see niether requiring a special GK coach. They both looked well and good.

So Briniging on a new GK coach to improve Migs would as more questions than answers.

Your thoughts Ed01.

{Ed002's Note - It is all in the archives for last summer. I explained about Mingolet - take the time to read it. I was told a couple of years ago that Fabian Giefer is real hidden gem in the German youth.}

2.) Can't be bothered doing your own research boom?
Finding other goalkeepers who we looked at doesn't change the fact Mignolet had a good 3 years at Sunderland and looked a great keeper before we bought him(except for his kicking and distribution)

3.) The problem is Bobatron, Sunderland made him look good. This was under Steve Bruse if I'm not wrong? A manager who set's his teams up to be compact and force the opposition into making desperate shots from positions you're unlikely to score from. We don't sit deep and just defend though. We go forward and leave gaps in behind; gaps a world class keeper can deal with.

Mingolet is a great shot stopper and at Sunderland that was all he had to do. They had dominating centre backs like Turner who didn't care if their keeper couldn't come out to collect the ball because they'd win it anyway. We are trying to play an attacking style with more offensive ball playing centre backs. We don't have 4 defenders all over 6ft3 either becauae we have attacking wing backs. Therefore we need a dominating keeper who will come and collect the ball rather than rely on his defence.

To conclude, it is very easy for goalkeepers to look good in average and defensive teams. You also don't have the problem with losing focus when the majority of the game is played in and around your area. He was making around 5-10 saves a game at Sunderland which keeps you on your toes. At top clubs though you may only be called upon to make a save 1 or 2 times and you could end up waiting until stoppage time to do that. Focus is therefore a big factor in becomnig a top class keeper. I'm not saying Mingolet is bad, I just don't think he is good enough for a top 4 team, unfortunately. If that makes me a bad fan in anybodys eyes, so be it. I'm just being honest though.

4.) I could believe that EMS if he didn't play well for Belgium too, and under Martin O'neil. I was very fotunate in that my best friend at uni is the son of steve walford so I used to go see sunderland play a lot as we got free tickets ETC. He certainly wasn't made to look good under Oneils tactics the season before we bought him, where for me he was the second best keeper in the league.

To say at sunderland all he had to do was shot stop is utter nonsense. He used to come and collect the ball no problem from crosses, although he has always seemingly favoured punching.
The fact you'd call sunderland a defensive team is quite astounding.
Mclean, sessegnon, johnson, rose, borini, larsson, etc, and you call sunderland a defensive team?

5.) That is my point though. He doesn't play for Belgium does he. Because Courtois is far superior. Martin O'Neil has always been a defensive manager very much in the Rafa mould. He likes to sit deep and hit teams on the break. I'm not saying Mingolet never had to do anything except stop shots, I'm just saying he had a different job/workload due to the different styles in play. He always looked flappy though.

I fail too see how listing a few attack minded players (some of whom were never at the clubwhilst Mingolet was there) backs up your aargument. Under Rafa we had Torres, Babel, Kuyt, Keane, Gerrard, Riise, Garcia, Riera, Pennant, Bellamy, Crouch etc. Don't tell me you considered Rafa an attacking coach too?

I'll have to agree to disagree here. Try not to take things so personally though mate. I don't think Mingolet has ever been in the top 10 keepers in the league personally. He had a couple of seasons where he made a few hundred highlight reel saves. He's never looked comfortable and commanding though. Perhaps he just needs a few years more experience. I just don't think we can afford him that time.

6.) Well we will have to disagree about Oneill he's certainly not a defensive manager. To me that's ludicrous. and Sunderland by the players they had and were set out certainly weren't a defensive side. Those players I noted pretty much started every game together. I truly suggest you go watch some sunderland highlights before spouting off embarrassingly that sunderland are a defensive team.

As for the belgium side, just watch them when he plays. I won't argue courtois is far superior, that's pretty much given, I certainly wouldn't believe courtois being better makes migs a bad keeper.

I don't take things personally. I just don't like complete garbage being spouted

7.) 14 Oct 2014 18:06:52
Thanks Ed002, i'll look into it.

8.) I said Sunderland were a defensive team.

I'm just going to leave this because you need to grow up mate.

{Ed001's Note - sorry but anyone who has watched O'Neill's tactics will know that he is a defensive minded manager. One of football's dinosaurs.}

9.) I'm glad I'm not alone then Ed001. Bobatron still won't hear it though. He's in one of his me vs the world moods.

{Ed001's Note - O'Neill is all about long balls and big target men as a club manager. Awful to watch, I really hope he never gets back into the club game ever again.}

10.) I completely agree Ed. His most settled job was at Villa. Carew up front to receive the long punt and then Milner, Barry, Young and Downing would just come tearing forward on the counter attack. It was effective at times, but boring and defensive. He tried to recreate it at Sunderland with Fletcher as the big man and the likes of Johnson etc tearing forward to join the attack but never managed to sign players of the same quality he had at Villa.

{Ed001's Note - he is just so out of touch with modern football and tactics, it is scary how highly rated he is just because he talks to the press.}

11.) BTWall this from a man who bet balotelli would get 35+ goals this season. and thought lukaku had a longer scoring drought and scored in dribs and drabs more than Bony. haha

12.) Logn balls doesn't make you defensive, sitting back for a counter, and holding onto 1-0 wins doesnm't make you defensive.
tell me how a defensive team makes a keeper look good, i would love to know, surely it invites more shots and pressure onto a keeper

13.) Whereas I agree he isn't a top manager, its astounding he took an average club like villa to 6th for 3 consecutive years in a row, when he left they pulmmeted, he saved Sunderland from relegation, and he got a draw with germany. dinosaur

4 Must needed signings.

Retain Borini to be your back up striker ( Young, Hungry, 23 year old and hard working )

World class Striker, Keeper, LB and DM.

We would have been title favourites.

3.) Harrys spot on with this post. that's what we should have done in summer

4.) 12 Oct 2014 04:22:08
Harry
I an younger hungrier though a tad bit lazy. Do you think the club will consider me? ;-)

5.) 12 Oct 2014 08:28:31
Yes Reet, you have every chance buddy

6.) I'm not young, but I haven't eaten since yesterday afternoon. I must be in with a shout.

Ed01.
I am travelling to Dubai on Nov 1st and would be there for 3 days. If its with in the rulez and under protocol. I would love to meet you up.
If not its ok.

Boom

{Ed001's Note - ok mate, do you know whereabouts you will be staying? I mean which area, so I can suggest a place to meet up.}

1.) 07 Oct 2014 18:24:13
God Save You Ed001 :-D lols no offense Harry
Btw on a similar note you ever visited India ed001?

{Ed001's Note - no mate, never been further than Dubai. Well Sharjah a few times, I suppose that is a little bit closer. I was supposed to be going out there for a friend's wedding a few years' back, but never managed to get enough money to afford it. I will have to go there one day as it is quite cheap to fly there from here. Got to visit the Philippines first though.}

2.) 07 Oct 2014 19:12:43
Ed001

Visit next year in May. Good time to get tanned at 45 C lol :-)

{Ed001's Note - does it not depend on which part you are in? I would have thought a country that big would have colder areas too. I find this country hot enough for me, though it is getting cold now, only mid 30s C at the height of the day.......}

3.) 07 Oct 2014 19:32:39
Iff u stay near the coast or go north you'll be fine. But don't you dare enter the interiors.
I had the pleasure of visiting dubai in April. Even in a.c I thought I was being steamed

{Ed001's Note - April is not too bad, July and August is when it gets baking. You see lots of people using umbrellas as sun shades, I still haven't got used to that and momentarily look up to the sky to see if it is raining when I see a brolly! April you do get rain though, I saw it rain twice this April gone, must have lasted as long as 3 minutes the second time.}

4.) 07 Oct 2014 19:54:09
I have some faint memories of the three minute rain.
Unfortunately won't be visiting dubai for a long time now

{Ed001's Note - shame that Reet, you could have met Harry otherwise!}

5.) 07 Oct 2014 20:03:53
Ed001

Even if I had visited dubai on nov 1 I would have not met Harry.
I want to come back alive :-D

{Ed001's Note - hahaha, I was hoping you would be my bodyguard!}

6.) 07 Oct 2014 21:45:41
Reet

I ll have one for you very soon lols.

{Ed007's Note - I've left a couple of posts on this thread for Ed001 to get in the morning.}

7.) I was in Dubai throughout September ED001
Expensive place especially if you want a social drink or 2. The drivers are quite frankly nutcases. I staid in the jumeira lake towers are, which was nice. were you round there?
I was quite shocked at seeing then hearing about the blood money incidents wwith the indian labourers.such a shocking thing I'dnever heard about

{Ed001's Note - I don't drink and it depends where you go as to the price mate. JLT is where I am staying at the moment and is very pricey, hence I will be moving as soon as possible. If you go to Bur Dubai, for instance, it is much cheaper round there.}

8.) 07 Oct 2014 21:44:45
Thanks Ed01. I shall give you the details soon. I hope its a Saturday night. And we do have a fixture on Sunday. banggggggggggg

{Ed001's Note - you don't want that because I am superstitious, and if we win, you will have to be tied up somewhere so you can't leave and we can do the exact same thing before every game!}

9.) 08 Oct 2014 04:35:20
Now when u tie him up ed001 (btw that sounds so wrong)
Don't give him access to a phone or laptop please ;-)

{Ed001's Note - he will be stuffed away with no access to anything. I don't want there being any chance of him changing something ahead of the following game. When we win, EVERYTHING has to be exactly the same the next time we play. Even the clothes worn have to be put aside straight afterwards and worn again the following game. Washing them is not allowed until we lose.}

10.) 08 Oct 2014 05:01:56
Not even wash the clothes ed? I wouldn't have dared to go near you during our 11 game winning streak last season

{Ed001's Note - you can't wash them, that washes out the luck!}

02 Oct 2014 13:35:06
Ed002, This one request to you, If you are in touch with the agent who got Cheslea the bumper deal for Luiz with PSG, We would defo need him in Jan and with no improvements resulting dropping out of CL, We would need him big time in Summer.
Fees won't be a big asking point, We would defo need some suitors for some of our players.
