Hi guys,

I'm just wondering what is the best way to go about buying tickets to a home game? I'm hoping to go to one in the coming months. I'm not a member of anything. But I've heard buying a membership gives you cheaper ticket options? Thing is I'll probably only be able to go to one game, so is the membership fee worth it for the sake of a one off game? Thanks.

Tickets do go to general sale - Sometimes, you need to keep an eye on the website.

It also depends on the opposition and when the game is being played, there tends to be more opportunities for a Monday night/ Mid week game.

If you buy a membership, it not only enhances your chances of buying a ticket but gives you the opportunity to record games ( on your membership) that will again help you next season if you want to attend a game.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. I moved to the UK about 8 months ago but will not be staying for much longer. This is why I'm wondering if it makes sense to get a membership if realistically I'll only get to use the match ticket benefits once (maybe twice if I'm very lucky! )? I'm looking at the spurs game on 11th Feb at the minute. Probably be tough to get a ticket to that one. But because it is a once off occasion I'm definitely open to considering the hospitality packages the Liverpool Fc website provide. Anybody know if these are worth it, and which package is the best?

Maybe not worth buying a membership then.
Hospitality is a good option, not cheap though.

Very difficult to get one unless you have some contacts with in the club or stadium. Try away matches. Membership is a decent option but there are infite members out there. You will have to a atleast 3 months in advance to get one.

Probably for ed01 this. I know you've answered similar questions to this before. But. Rafael Benitez. Has he become less standoff-ish as a manager since joining Newcastle? As a man manager in the past he was lacking that gentle touch. But listening to some of the Newcastle players now, saying "he's improved the squad morale, we're like a family etc. " Do you think he has adapted and added that to his game?

{Ed001's Note - yes, he spends a lot of time examining his mistakes and looking to learn from them. At Newcastle he knows the main problem was that they were not working as a team, they were all individuals playing for themselves. So he worked to change that and bring them together.}

I'm glad he's been able to work on that. Usually you either have that sort of thing or not. I know I try to be nice and it comes off forced haha. I'm sure people can read through it!

Such a good man. Wish we can have Benitez as assistant coach to Klopp.

Benitez as assistant to klopp would be like trump assistant to obama.

Harsh on Rafa comparing him to Trump😡.

Hi Ed001

As a fan in his twenties with admittedly no in depth knowledge on goalkeepers of a previous era other than YouTube and old videos when I was younger I still have to question why you reckon goalies and defenders are much worse these days? I mean if you look back at the results of fixtures in the 70s you see games that are won 7-2 and 8-4 and all of these ridiculous scorelines. Surely that indicates that they couldn't of been that much better defensively? Or was it due to lack of tactics etc.? I mean I see clips of people like Barnes and all these great dribbles of the ball and take nothing away from them cause they were amazing but in a lot of clips you barely see a defender even throw in a tackle they just let them glide by like nothing. I don't know it's hard to doubt the level of quality was different between now and then without being around but I guess what I'm mostly interested in is what in your opinion what was it that caused such huge scorelines which we don't see as often today?

Thanks for the thread. Really interesting read.

{Ed001's Note - tactics is the main thing, players are not given the freedom they were, they are held in rigid systems. When you see big scores there is always a breakdown in the system that results in it. Plus it helps playing on better pitches, so many goals were the result of bobbly pitches that you can probably rule out a large proportion because of that. Mainly though it is a more defensive system mindset. Teams play with more defensive players than in the past. Even now they have gone more attacking with the fullbacks, everyone puts a defensive midfielder in to cover any gaps. There is also the problem of the modern defender having to cope with rule changes making it much more difficult to use physical tactics to defend. You used to be able to kick an attacker until he could barely run.}
