Just wanted to point out.

What a job Xabi and his coaching team are doing

Taken a team from bottom two last October to being top and not having lost in the league so far this season.

One to watch?

Thiago Shimmy

1.) 14 Nov 2023 09:01:36
Xabi is doing bits, for sure. It'll be interesting to see how things work out for him and Bayer moving forward this season or even next season.

2.) 14 Nov 2023 11:54:55
He won’t be coming to us probably going to be carlo’s successor if he carries on being a success.

3.) 14 Nov 2023 13:33:53
Scouse john L8, I never said he would come to us nor did I say I wanted him to come to us so it seems you are having a conversation nobody is having on this thread.

Also, nobody knows that If Xabi will come to us or whether he will go to RM for sure. And, who says better managers will not be available when Klopp eventually leaves which could be even further in the future should he extend? Too early to make such definitive claims is all Im saying. Let's see him progress and just be happy for him cos I know I am.

4.) 14 Nov 2023 13:42:28
Can't think why any young manager would go to RM TBH - don't win the league for a season and they're gone. Surprised Ancelotti has lasted so long there TBH.

5.) 14 Nov 2023 13:42:34
OliRed, Scouse John L8 also didn't say that you did?

Looks like he was just offering up his opinion on Xabi's next move. Not sure the needs for such a defensive reply on a discussion post.

Can we, on this site, not even have a general conversation without getting on the back foot if someone offers up a contrasting opinion?

6.) 14 Nov 2023 14:41:55
Just trying to be rational here, the OP did ask whether Xabi might be one to watch or not. I think it's perfectly rational for John to interpret that as he did, and giving an opinion on where he might end up - it might not even have been pointed at your post Oli.

With that said I think it's easy to be swallowed by expectations of ex players, even (maybe especially) if they're doing a good job. Let him sculpture his career, while Klopp keeps sculpturing his with us - and let's see how the stars align in the future. For me and from what I've seen of Leverkusen, Xabi is definitely one to watch.

7.) 14 Nov 2023 15:51:28
And Gerrard is one to avoid
He hasn’t shown even remotely that he is a decent manager, much less an elite one
At best, he should be an ambassador for the club, coach maybe? But please, not a manager, not until he proves he is at the elite level.

8.) 14 Nov 2023 17:52:20
I honestly cannot remember the last time anyone suggested Gerrard should succeed Klopp. Wasn't even that much clamour for it when he was at Rangers.

9.) 14 Nov 2023 18:21:07
Could also be on Bayern's wishlist.

He played for them also.

10.) 14 Nov 2023 18:58:52
Lfc fan has to have a go against Stevie in a thread he hadnt even been mentioned in. Could only happen on here, honestly where im from i have never heard one of the thousands of Pool fans ever say a bad word against him, there's only admiration and thanks. He will never get the Lfc job and as for Xabi i think the timing will be off. Jurgens here till 2026 and i can see him at Real before then.

11.) 14 Nov 2023 19:21:34
johnnyr1970

Because Ancelotti is a serial winner - won 5 league titles in 5 different leagues; 4 Champions' Leagues with 2 different clubs and numerous domestic cups in several countries.

Xabi Alonso has won f-all as a manager yet. He's got Leverkusen to the top of a 3 horse at best, race in Germany, but the season isn't over yet.

12.) 14 Nov 2023 21:43:27
@olired. You don’t half chat some wam lad.

17 Apr 2023 22:39:55
Absolutely livid

Football committee meeting tonight so missed the match

Happy to accept payments to not watch any more games this season.

Thiago Shimmy

1.) 17 Apr 2023 23:05:39
Nah, doesn't work. I tried it with the RM game after I realised I had only missed the wins against Bournemouth and Man U all season.

2.) 17 Apr 2023 23:30:11
Trent has to start playing in midfield. 1 it could save us massive money 2 it looks likes it’s going to work 3 we can get someone who can actually defend in.
Don’t know if he’s the right persufor the job but João Cancelo mite work.

3.) 18 Apr 2023 01:05:30
Wow cancelo be some option but way out of budget for us I’d imagine.

Completly agree about Trent tho he seemed to enjoy having that freedom tonight, a defender and a midfielder capable of tracking up and down Trent’s flank seems priority if that’s how we are going to play. Our forward line looms stacked with Diaz coming back and young Doak needing more minutes.

4.) 18 Apr 2023 01:48:45
Depends on how we set up, Longthing. It does seem like we are continuing to play with "inverted full-backs" now instead of reverting to our previous style of play so TAA may continue to start at RB but push forward into midfield instead of out on the wings.

5.) 18 Apr 2023 03:09:40
Isnt it just Trent who is coming in? Robbo looks to still be playing wide though in the arsenal game he was actually playing as a third (widish) CB. I wonder if they have Trent playing centrally because they need someone there who can progress the ball. When Bajectic was playing, Trent was playing wider. Which would suggest that if they were to get a new midfielder who is happy playing facing his own goal then Trent might revert back wide particularly if that midfielder has the speed to cover for him.

6.) 18 Apr 2023 07:34:03
The thing is teams will quickly work out how to punish us playing the inverted wingbacks so I still think we need to keep Trent in midfield and buy a very good LB who can defend.

7.) 18 Apr 2023 07:58:14
Longthing76 - I think we already bought a RB in Ramsay. He's going to be a top player. Maybe this was done with the idea of pushing Trent forward - who knows?

I'd need to see how TAA gets on against much better sides too in that position. Maybe he could be our own Bellingham.

8.) 18 Apr 2023 08:20:10
It’s an experiment Klopp is doing right now, Longthing76. Give it time cos I don’t even think this will be the way we play longterm. Wait and see.

12 Apr 2023 09:06:08
We need a potential 3 or 4 signings (3 midfield and another CB)
To get quality in that isn't going to be cheap

Spending circa £130m on Bellingham whilst neglecting other areas of the team that badly need to be addressed would be criminal

Fully agree with the decision (if it is one) not to pursue his signing.

Thiago Shimmy

1.) 12 Apr 2023 09:50:46
Thiago Shimmy-There is logic in your argument, and also an argument that a world class player can make a lot of difference.
Naby was supposed to be THAT player, and look how he showed up, and whilst nothing in guaranteed, JB is a lot more likely to fit in and be consistently world class.

Nunes @50m + Mount@50m or JB. Hmm.

2.) 12 Apr 2023 10:17:50
Bellingham on his own could not cover for the fact that Hendo, Fab, Milner and Thiago haven’t got a run in them

What would happen is that he wouldn’t be able to use his exceptional talent because he’d be doing the “dog-work” of the others

Need to balance out the overall - and IMO we would see far more benefit getting in a number of good players rather than one exceptional one.

3.) 12 Apr 2023 10:30:49
As Ed says though, 2 MF players IS a revamp, considering we do have plenty of MF players kicking around already.
It seems obvious that we will be buying a DM to compete with, or replace Fab, in which case, Jude would have some help.
The third place in MF, (if we don't goto to 4-2-4 of sorts) would be shared between Thiago, Elliot, Fab, Hendo.

50/ 60M is the going rate for unproven talent these days, whilst 100m gets you a world cup winner that is also unproven in this league.
Prices are insane thanks to Chelsea-surely this can't last.

4.) 12 Apr 2023 12:37:30
Spot on, OP. As I have said before, if Jude signs, he signs and great. If e doesn't, it is what it is. Those like you who have the opinion that we have too many issues to address rather than spunking 130m on a top player in Jude, make very valid arguments that cannot be ignored. All we need is 3/ 4 players in the first 11/ first team and we are solid again PROVIDED we go back to playing Klopp footie. If these wretched tactics persists then even Jude or any other signings will NOT help us, IMO.

5.) 12 Apr 2023 13:01:04
Bellingham isn't just a player, he is a player with a presence that can get inside opposition heads, like Gerrard did, other players knew they would never get the better of Gerrard and it affected their games, he will have that same aura and if he goes City, they will dominate home and abroad for the next 5 seasons comfortably.

6.) 12 Apr 2023 17:21:45
LancasterRed, then so be it.

16 Mar 2023 06:57:39
What is starting to concern me is Klopps references to needing an overhaul, and that it's a massive task ahead.

We all know that, the owners know that, the players probably know that.

But don't keep saying it out loud JK. This is something that needs discussing behind closed doors and without the current squad knowing. There is still top 4 to fight for as it has significant financial implications - and the current squad are the ones who will, or won't, get us there.

If they feel they aren't in the plans, or that the manager has lost faith in them - how much fight are they going to give him?

Yes- they play for LFC and are professionals so should give 100% no matter what/ but quite clearly they aren't - if they were we would be more consistent- so they need confidence, belief and stability between now and May.

Thiago Shimmy

1.) 16 Mar 2023 07:16:19
You have a point, but maybe he's doing the opposite? Letting the squad know that he's not happy, and unless they wake up they'll be elsewhere after the summer? Agreed it should be done behind closed doors, but he has an image, reputation and legacy to protect with the media and the fanbase, so he's voicing his thoughts. Self-preservation- we all have it.

2.) 16 Mar 2023 07:22:27
Not the result or performance we wanted and all we have left this season is to fight for top 4 after going out of the CL with a whimper.

Whilst the Anfield crowd and away support might be up for this challenge the question still remains will the players?

The argument is these players raise their game against the bigger teams but we didn’t see that last night and we didn’t see it this season already against Utd away, Napoli away, arsenal, City league cup, Chelsea home and real home.

So basically against the big teams we’ve turned up 3 times at home against City, Napoli and Utd and then not turned up 7 times.

I’be not given up on top 4 but maybe some of the squad have.

3.) 16 Mar 2023 07:33:08
Not really aiming it at the first 11 group of players though is he, let's face it all of the big players who've faced criticism like Virg, Trent, Fab, Salah will all still be here next year. Think its more to do with the likes of Ox, Keita who are definitely leaving and the maybes like Tsimi, Kelleher, Matip or Jota. Compared to our usual summers under Jurgen everyone knows there is going to be an overhaul this Summer, not exactly top secret to anyone.

4.) 16 Mar 2023 07:33:15
A lot of players will know that they are at the end, such as Keita and Ox on free, more than likely Milner released, Firmino says he going too etc. There might be the odd surprise so to speak, Fabinho for example but contrary to popular beliefs, these players are professional, they don’t just “down tools” because they are moving to pastures new. They are the same players that have brought us a lot of success over the seasons, they won’t just give up.

5.) 16 Mar 2023 08:09:59
I mostly agree JK23. But we definitely showed up Arsenal away. That is the game we were robbed by Jesus diving for a penalty and Gabriel slapping a cross 7ft out the air with both hands for no penalty. The ref gave Arsenal that game.

But yeah overall we've not been good enough consistently against any quality of opposition.

6.) 16 Mar 2023 08:10:11
Surely players will want a good move in decent contracts if feel they’re likely to leave which means they’ll play the best they can do other teams want them.

7.) 16 Mar 2023 08:29:13
That's what we hope will happen, Ijj. But more often then not, they won't put in effort once they know they won't be getting a new contract. Just look at Wiji for example. Played amazingly for a few games on the beginning of his last season with us but coasted through the rest when he knew we won't be offering him an improved contract.

Players know that there will be a club somewhere desperate enough to take a chance on them. There's really no incentive for them to put themselves in the shop window per se.

8.) 16 Mar 2023 08:36:41
Or they could fight to be part of the overhaul and play CL football next season.
I've never really understood footballers not wanting to play football.

9.) 16 Mar 2023 08:40:01
Overhaul?
Alot of the big underperformers were given far bigger wages. Virg, trent, Henderson, salah etc. Poor squad management.

10.) 16 Mar 2023 08:44:06
Mk not going to lie this season has been that long I actually thought that game you just described happened last season. My bad.

11.) 16 Mar 2023 09:01:18
These players are not playing for him anymore. It’s clear as a day light. I wish he called out these muppets long back and never showed any loyalty to most we would be walking the league this speaks instead of Arsenal.

12.) 16 Mar 2023 09:40:46
Yeah, it does feel like it; whatever it was that made them fight for Klopp on the field, doesn't seem to be there anymore. Not all, but some.

Either way. For me, everything in life has an expiry date. I'm convinced we're reaching one. Question is just players or, management and ownership too? Looks like a mighty interesting summer coming up ahead.

13.) 16 Mar 2023 14:06:30
We all know the overhaul is coming next season and Klopp sayying it in public or in private doesn't change much cos pretty sure the team already knows it. Also, they know they are playing for their jobs for next season too. Klopp has a big job on his hands and despite all the stick I have given him, I have NO intention to advocate for his departure.

Now he needs to change his way of management and be a lot more ruthless like the way he was when he first came in and he needs a DOF to push him and challenge him, as FPF has said many times on here. The owners got to step in as well (I know, it's not the way they roll) to bring him to heel when his blind spots kick in.

Look, let's get it right. We are STILL a problem for any and ALL bums in the PL when we play the way we know how to play. WE KNOW THIS. We just got to retool and reshuffle the deck and get back to the Klopp way of playing and showing some humility along the way cos that is what brought us ALL the success that rival fans crave BUT will never admit. YNWA!

26 Feb 2023 09:41:59
Just watched the "highlights" from last night

Do you think we practice set-pieces?

Klopp said that we were unlucky with Hendo blocking Trent's free-kick.

For me it wasn't unlucky - if we worked on it then Hendo shouldn't be in that place.

Thiago Shimmy

1.) 26 Feb 2023 09:57:35
Negative fans will say he shouldn’t have been there and the positive ones will say it was a great block.

2.) 26 Feb 2023 10:00:10
I don’t expect anything when we get freekicks and corners anymore.

3.) 26 Feb 2023 10:15:04
Do you really mean that FPF?

4.) 26 Feb 2023 10:33:51
JK, my friend, I really don't understand why you keep pushing this "negative fan""positive fan" narrative? Everybody has been able to post and express their opinions. I haven't seen any blockage of any kind on here. Some complain that their opinion gets drowned out. But isn't that more a reflection of a weak argument that they should have fought for and, opted not to, defend?

The team is having a hard enough time as it is, I don't see what good comes out of splitting up the fan base too?

5.) 26 Feb 2023 10:59:09
Aray it’s a tongue in cheek comment on a banter site mate. Not really sure why it’s made you react in calling me out.

Last night you and another poster were having a personal argument on the live chat. I’d say that’s more dividing than me saying the words positive and negative fans.

I’m still positive enough that I’m going to as many games as I can and I’ll watch every other one on the tv but I still think there’s plenty of negatives to be aired also.

6.) 26 Feb 2023 11:20:05
WDW - yes. We have no aggression or desire to win battles so our corners are useless. Our freekicks have little to no variety. We clearly don’t work on them.

7.) 26 Feb 2023 11:22:25
Never understand why Jordan is running away from the wall into the line of fire, rather than behind/ towards the wall and away from the line of fire.

8.) 26 Feb 2023 12:43:12
The fact that Klopp is focusing on one throw away free kick scenario that happens in plenty of games of football should tell you either he is bereft of what to say or he just said that as a “look over there” comment.

9.) 26 Feb 2023 13:03:29
Gakpo should have scored against Newcastle and TAA should have scored last night both from free kicks.

10.) 26 Feb 2023 13:16:09
JK, not calling you out at all. We know each other well enough, and there's certainly no malice intended on my part. I just think, that as a fan base, we should let go of things like "negative fans, Superfans, we almost won the quadruple" etc etc, because they separate us and put us into cub holes.

The argument I had on the chat was a result of his using racist comments. Nobody would accept that, so if it divides then let it be so. You're telling me you would accept such comments directed at you?

11.) 26 Feb 2023 13:35:50
I can understand the negativity and emotions on the Live Chat but some of the stuff is unacceptable.
If you challenge it you are accused of being happy with our situation.
Tbh, I'm happier with our situation than I am with how some fans handle our situation ?.

12.) 26 Feb 2023 13:39:44
Aray no malice on my behalf either and I wasn’t blaming you for the chat mate. He was in the wrong and I did say for you to ignore him last night. I’m just saying with the 60 odd million fans we have worldwide I very much doubt my positive and negative fan comment has actually divided the LFC fan base.

Always enjoy chatting to you on there and here mate. Hopefully one day we’ll share a beer over a game whether it be at Anfield or anywhere else in the world.

13.) 26 Feb 2023 13:53:39
Exactly why I stay away from the live chat, ArAy1969. Impossible to filter a live chat so racism, xenophobia, homophobia, sexism etc. will always get through and I'd just rather not read it. You can see how many trolls are on this site nowadays by how many people create an account to post abuse on literally one thread, and then never post again. Glad to hear you called it out though. Respect.

14.) 26 Feb 2023 14:04:00
To be honest the live chat is pretty good and it only had (one poster) last night trying to get a reaction. I choose to ignore it and simply scroll past and have some good crack on there with lots of posters I’d happily share a beer with at a game or in the pub watching us.

15.) 26 Feb 2023 14:56:24
maybe I missed something. What racist comments were made? I thought all in all it was a decent live chat. if I missed the racist comments, I'm sorry and certainly would not condone such reprehensible behavior.

16.) 26 Feb 2023 15:23:22
JK, likewise. Not just with you, but with many others with whom I find opposing views, I still enjoy being on here and on the chat, because of that one commonality; being a LFC supporter. That pest has been banned. Twice I've had to request it, now. But he'll pop up again, no doubt in my mind.

MKS, thanks for the support. But it's not that bad on the live chat at all, otherwise I'd be out. The chatting is always very civil and football oriented (although emotions get heightened sometimes) . And that's all you can really ask for. Once in a while a fool will come along and spoil things for everyone else, but then that's daily life, isn't it? ?.

17.) 26 Feb 2023 15:30:04
I would agree with JK. There are a few ejits that try to get a reaction but in the main it’s pretty good craic at times. It also depends on your tolerance level, I mean if calling Gomez F##king Sh#te is unacceptable and deemed as abuse then I think a lot of posters are going to struggle ??. I’ve no issue with posters getting frustrated at all, but if someone is being racist or whatever else then that had to be dealt with and ArAy was well within his rights to challenge the poster. Mainly tho, I’ve heard worse down the pub and I don’t think it should be altered to suit a few posters who come on when you’re getting beat 5-2 just to berate posters because of “industrial language” Mentioning no names ?.

18.) 26 Feb 2023 15:38:42
Wow, lash the Live Chat time again, it's the only joy of this site nowadays.

19.) 26 Feb 2023 16:04:11
Mcgoveb, if I can, and going by the general mood this entire past week, I'd say it's been more "lash out at Klopp" than anything else. I'm not going to go into whether it's deserved or not, because that's a whole different discussion.

20.) 26 Feb 2023 20:55:28
Irish, you can call Gomez effin rubbish. I wouldn't say that was unacceptable. But some posters shouldn't be offended when their comments are described as embarrassing.
It is embarrassing to read some posters losing control and actually bother to type things like 'I hate this team'.
Maybe they just don't have the words to express their frustrations?

For me this approach to Caicedo smells of a club trying to show the fans “they mean business” when everyone knew he only wanted Chelsea (and clubs would know that)

Look- we tried to spend £110m and it’s not our fault it didn’t come off….

Ed01- completely agree with changing our style of play
I personally think us playing on the counter would get the best out of the front 3 and avoid trying to get players to play a style they’re not used to.

To be fair we’ve played 5 out of the top 7 (Villa, City, Spurs, Newcastle, United)
That’s 15 points up for grabs
We’ve got 8

That’s not a great haul for title challengers.

I see above you mention Darwin working with the coaches
My worry is - do we actually do that kind of work?

Everything I always see is keep-ball on training
He’s still snatching at chances and trying to smash the leather off it

The biggest concern for me is this style of play doesn’t suit him, and he doesn’t fit in to this style of play.

Thiago Shimmy

{Ed001's Note - then we should change the style of play to suit him and our other players, because the way we are playing is not suiting anyone really.}

I think you’ve hit the nail in the head
Time and space is not a thing in the PL - which should have binned any idea of signing Thiago.

Obviously there wasn’t an online platform at the time but I recall meltdown conversations when Rushie went to Juve

In came Barnes, Beardsley, and Aldridge

If we could have defended at that time we would have won everything- every season.
