Just my 2 penance on Konate close to a new deal if reports are true.
Think the club is seriously making a mistake here, on his day Konate can be world class, he has unbelievable power and his aggressive play style in the right circumstances is quality. I jus dont understand the new huge contract reports are saying he will be receiving (circa of 300kpw ive heard). I understand they maybe think we dont want to loose him on a free but this is a huge outlay. If he has another stinker of a season he will probably need replacing anyway and I cant imagine many, if any teams paying a good transfer fee for him if the form continues in the same vein.

My biggest issue with it tho is the message it sends to other squad players. He has had an unbelievably bad season, as have many others i agree but to give him a huge pay rise based of this is nuts in my mind. Cut your losses on him. Wish him the best and go find someone else who can consistently perform to the calibre we need. Sorry for long rant, just hope im wrong about this and Ibou can find some form next season and I look come back with my tail between my legs.

We do seem to be rewarding players who have been awful this season, Gravenberch n now Konate, not a good policy is it.

300k for 12 months is £15m roughly.

Rather they spend that now and look for better next year, then forking out 50m+ on a new defender, on top of all the other players we need to buy.

I'm not his biggest fan, and if this was the only position we had to fill in the summer then I would be looking at letting him go and buying a new CB.

Hey lads, we can all have a bad time of it. Sometimes, things go wrong. We've had a big turned around in players, no time to settle, it takes time to build a team. We're all in this together. YNWA.

Fowler has got it spot on, we have so much work to do this summer that we can't afford to be spending £40-£50 million on a Konate replacement.

Gravenberch has been poor, but I recall after a goal and assist in the derby earlier in the season, we were talking about him being one of the best young midfielders in Europe (rightfully so). He's not even 24 yet!
Last season too, from Feb onwards, he was looking gassed out and everyone thought the team was suffering because of one player.

The whole team was on a rot because of one player. That's how important he was.
Fans seem to forget things very fast.
If a manager comes in that can actually manage, and find a system that functions, Grav will thrive again.

Amie, it's all about priorities at this point cos for me, I would focus on the midfield cos that is The key area.

If Ibou has another shocker next season, at least we know Jacquet or Leoni could take his place fairly quickly.

While he, along with a fair few of his team mates, has had a poor season, I would be curious to see how he does with a settled rb next to him and a defensive midfielder that he would trust in front of him.

I sometimes think he goes wandering because he doesn't trust his team mates beside and in front of him to win the duels.

Also worth pointing out that other than the Endrick assault, he's stayed injury free for almost two full seasons now.

We need to keep our players in contract for resale value. They are assets. I don't think any player is going to be smelling of roses at the end of the season.

In regards to Konate, I believe the club feels that even if he does have a stinker, securing him for 300k per week is an easier task and cheaper option than pursuing a top CB to replace him this summer. I imagine the risk to reward on outlay is worth it in their eyes because they feel Jacquet or Leoni will be able to step in if he does fail to produce adequate performances.

Like I've said before, as poor as we've been at the back, we've been even worse in midfield, and going forward, so I believe a midfielder and a winger are the club's main priorities at the moment.

I posted the other day Konate has not only had to deal with the loss of Diogo, but also the loss of his father, which would affect how he has played.
We need to give Ibu some space, the lad has gone through a lot and just needs some support, guys. Remember we are Liverpool, we never walk alone.

{Ed001's Note - he wasn't good last season, what is the excuse then? What is the excuse for the years under Klopp that he would end up being in and out of the side because he couldn't be trusted? He just needs to go. Paisley would have had him out of the door within a year of signing him.}

Maybe Konate signs an extension and VVD is sold this summer???!!!???

Surely the club didn't want to lose Konate on a free this summer and then VVD for a free next summer as well.

Can't keep losing players for nothing. In the last 10 years.

Adrian, Clyne, Robertson, Moreno, Emre Can, Lallana, Milner, Keita, Ox, Wijnaldum, Markovic, Sturridge, Firmino, Origi, Salah, not a penny for any of them. Trent went for free, then we got 10m because of the Club World Cup.

Thiago and Matip retired after finishing with us, but still 2 players we had to replace with no funds towards it.

Once a player hits 2 years left on contract there should be a decision. Sell or extend.

Taking into account inflation, there is still no way Konate is worth the same wages VVD was getting around the same age. That was peak VVD, or at least heading into VVD's peak years, and he was around the 180k mark.

I think Konate maxes out at 200k/week, no more. The ball park: Gvardiol, Fofana, De Ligt, Romero, Maguire are all around that figure and that is where Konate should be.

Speculating here, but if he is holding out for something around 300k, I would happily let him go. In that case I'd be targeting a late 20s CB, someone who is capable of starting and help bring Jacquet and Leoni along.
