Just read a post saying Barcelona had interest in van djike and my mouth went dry. It got me thinking how he is probably our most irreplaceable player. If we lost mane, we'd be gutted but there are other wingers out there who could be brilliant for Liverpool. Firmino dito. Henderson dito.

He is the player I would most hate to lose, for the reason that he is irreplaceable. Who would other people suggest they'd be most loath to lose, and why?

They may well have interest. But they’ve got no money and no players worth taking in exchange.

How much is Virgil worth today? At least £150m i'd say. I reckon we'd still reject that.

Be 3/ 5 years before Barcelona are a team again.

I think Van Dijk is "worth" more than £150m to be honest.
Other than Mbappe, I'm not sure if there is another player on world football worth more than Van Dijk? Perhaps I'm looking through red tinted specs but if you look at the impact he made to Liverpool, his physique, leadership, great injury record, age, style of play. He would drastically improve any defence in world football and is a guarantee for a number of points each year.
Happy to debate this!

It’s not a place you want to be going at the minute. Barcelona are slipping rapidly.

HMB, 150m is just for his right foot. Based on the immense rewards LFC have reaped from VVD's impact on the whole club, I can safely say that no club can afford VVD right now. None whatsoever, IMO.

I think Virgil is the most important player for LFC and too important to be allowed to leave for the foreseeable future. I don't care how much someone offers for him; the answer should be a polite but firm 'No, he's not for sale'. I hope that Jurgen and the board feel the same way.

Yeah, I don't think they still have an interest, it was last year or something.

His impact on the team was phenomenal. Can't think of a player who came in an had such a huge impact, maybe suarez. We were already excellent going forward, salah had just blown the roof off, but we couldn't defend for our lives. Even 3 0 up looked iffy at times. Would Alisson have agreed to sign if we didn't have vvd?
Talking like that, would vvd have signed if we didn't make the cl. And migs made a really big save in the last game of the season that saw us finish 4th. And didn't gini score the first goal in that game? Funny how it goes isn't it.

Hopefully nobody taps him up like we did to Southampton. Cos he will force through a move if he wanted. I agree there isn't a defender on the planet who could replace him.

VvD is our most important player. But who are you saying could replace mane? I can’t think of anyone.

Could Barcelona even afford VVD? And do they want to spend so large again given their recent track record on big buys?

Mane is amazing Mark. I used him as an example as he is one of our most exciting players. But when we signed him he was a player with great potential. Not a balon dor nominee, admired by Zidane and real madrid. there are other wingers on the planet who have great potential, who like I said could be great for us. It's easy to say mane is one of the best players in the world today. But when he was at Southampton I bet you weren't saying "in 4 years that lad will be irreplaceable for Liverpool" I'm not having a go, in short - there a hundreds of very good wingers in the world, but not so many centre backs.

Just realised the Dutch connection at Barcelona now. I don't think we could be persuaded to sell. But, if I were taking over Barcelona (don't worry, I'd knock em back too) the first player I'd want is vvd. Ya know, if I had an open cheque book.

I came on to say, isn't it weird, sad even, that koeman gives up the Holland job without taking them to a tournament, for a club side. It's meant to be the other way around.

Robbie, Barcelona simply cannot afford him.
