Looking for a silver lining in the age of no fans and an injury crisis, a lot more youngsters are going to get a lot more chances in first teams this year, without the added pressure of having thousands of fans watching them as well.
Can only be good thing for the medium to long term.
I hope many more kids will get a chance to shine this season and get a chance to become a first team footballer at the club they grew up in rather than getting shipped out somewhere on a pointless loan and slipping into obscurity.

Agree Mikey but football is a ruthless world. These kids will be given chances but if they are deemed not good enough then they will be shipped out without a second thought. Football is a business and results game for owners and managers and time is not on managers side. There's loads of players who are a club darling or promising youngster one day and then the next they are gone. Its only the elite players at the top where the role is actually reversed.

Sorry but I don't see how loans are pointless if they're getting game time? Even saying lowereague football is better experience and more competitive than playing in the u23s.

Pegleg there's an argument to be said getting a chance to train with a top class coaches, better players may be better than a loan to a lower league side, even if they are playing regular football.

I'm not sure I know enough about training behind scenes but I would certainly be open to that argument.

Yeah not all loans are pointless obviously but I always thought it was better for a youngster to break into the first team of their parent club (Trent for example) rather than go out on loan and come back. They seem to just flourish better being in familiar surroundings and familiar players, not having to learn a new system etc. I can’t remember many Liverpool players going out on loan to get experience and then coming back straight into the first team, (I’m sure many are about to list examples) . But I do remember a few players getting their chance and running away with it.
