Wow. What a big result that was last night.

Firstly, congratulations to Chelsea. Fully deserved it on the night and it was great to see players that i love such as Kante and Mount get the plaudits they deserve. Their performances and defensive resilience across the board was incredible.

Choosing who you’d rather see win a champions league between chelsea and city is less than ideal, but i think almost all Liverpool fans agreed that City winning that final would have been a disaster. Through Chelsea winning it, little changes. Chelsea are Chelsea and are a well established big club now that win things all the time. It’s just what they do.

For City, it is considerably different. Their fate has been entirely entwined with ours for for the last four seasons now. Unlike Chelsea, who have always looked comfortable and done well in European football, City suffer greatly from impostor syndrome. They don’t feel comfortable on the biggest stage and bottle it every single year. An exit from the competition for them isn’t merely a disappointment, it is an absolute catastrophe that clearly destroys their mentality and positive state of mind, it turns them into a complete joke. Every year they roll up talking about winning it as if it will be easy, and they bottle it every year. I’m amazed they were able to bounce back after last year but, as i have been saying all season, they are not that good and have been found out in Europe.

City’s success this season has been entirely down to their capacity to rotate, to keep the squad fresh at a time when everybody else has been absolutely knackered and fatigued, as well as the lack of fans that is perfect for their training ground pre-programmed football. They had a favourable and lucky run in the knockouts and as soon as they came up against the only other team that had as big as squad as theirs, the only other team that wasn’t knackered, they got done. For them to have blagged a European cup this season would have been an unmitigated disaster for us. It would have given them the legitimacy they crave and alleviated the pressure on them, establishing them as proper european elite. Instead, they failed right at the end, and the fallout will be massive, and with the rumours that they are going for grealish instead of kane, i can’t see city being able to dominate as breeze through teams as they have this season.

I have a funny feeling next year will be ours.

More than a hint of red subjective assessment going on here. City have a fantastic squad and club. Maybe this loss spurs them on next season? They've won everything else and typically win a couple trophies each season. Something we've not done.

I can't stand City and what they represent but to say they've been found out in Europe is a bitter falsehood. They reached the final, they reached the semis the year we last won, i don't remember them ever going out in the group stages. They are a big European team and one of the favorites every year. They beat Porto, Dortmund and PSG en route to the final and they shouldhave won the cup relatively comfortably if Pep had stuck to their tried and tested team and formation.
These days i dislike them as much as Man U but, credit where credits due, they didn't reach the final of Europes premier competition because the other teams were knackered.

I totally agree with you. Next season should be our's. We need a big squad and most essentially a goal expert. We were far from being clinical in our attempt to score goals.

Man city is not yet a UCL winner. That gives me a bragging right over them. I love their under achievement in Europe as they lack European silverware. They should be jealous of us.

God, so red tinted its embarrassing. No humility at all.

Dislike both teams so it was a weird final. One things for sure, Man City will never have a better chance to win it. They will never play a team as bad as Chelsea again in one.

{Ed025's Note - chelsea done a number on them jadon, they will be there again next season and will probably win it mate..

AW makes some valid points while others like them being luck and all that, I disagree with. Mainly for me, I agree that City lack the pedigree and mentality to compete on the CL and actually win it outright.

With the manager and seemingly inexhaustible resources at their disposal, it is already a disgrace that it took them this long to make a CL final IMO, which tells me that they suffer some type of complex whenever things get sticky in the crucial CL stages.

Also, having a manager who seems to suffer from the same complex does not help either cos he seems to panic and second guess himself which confuses the players and leads to failure. Sure next season, City will be favs to make the final if not win it outright BUT the more they fail, the tougher it will be for them. Until they actually win it, they are what they are: Chokers.

They have to get past a rejuvinated Liverpool first.
Something they struggle to do.
