Eds with Phillips signing his new contract is there any talk of a loan being sorted tonight?

Jadon Havertz

{Ed002's Note - No, Williams will go and I will expect him to stay after Liverpool failed to find a buyer.}

1.) 31 Aug 2021 20:01:20
ED02 - do i need to stay up until 11pm or later to watch a late transfer in going through. I could do with the sleep.

{Ed002's Note - I rather doubt it at this moment in time.}

2.) 31 Aug 2021 20:10:29
I imagine with Phillips it’s a case of protecting his value and hopefully find a buyer for him next summer.

I really like him, but thought last season would be the perfect springboard his career onto another PL team.

3.) 31 Aug 2021 20:44:38
But if he doesn't play his value will only decline. Sounds negative but its the truth.

4.) 31 Aug 2021 21:13:53
It depends on where your priorities lie.
Considering how short we found ourselves last season (hopefully a one off) I think having Philips on board is a sound idea. He's at his dream club, I don't think he'll be worrying too much about his value dropping.

5.) 31 Aug 2021 22:33:18
Very very disappointing window for LFC.

6.) 31 Aug 2021 22:46:29
Yea, instead of being short/ light at the back we’re now short/ light up front. I seem to remember the front 3 struggling at least as much as our defence last season. Seems like we’re willing to gamble on this season like we did last.

7.) 01 Sep 2021 01:55:29
You don’t think that part of the problem was the lack of a defence - the supply from the back dropped in quality and frequency?

Or that our two most effective midfielders were forced to play as makeweight centre halves so that not only the defence and I’d field were both weakened?

Or that one of the front three had C.V. (maybe long C.V.? ) and that Jota took a while to settle in and had an injury or two himself?

Easier to say they are all past it I guess?

8.) 01 Sep 2021 07:50:30
This will give minamini and ox to get some much nedded gametime.

9.) 01 Sep 2021 09:09:40
I think we have what it takes to 'challenge' in all competitions, provided we do not have major injuries like we had last season. That being said, most of our main competitors are strengthening but we just added Konate. Yes, we have Elliot, we have Ox and Minamino back. but the problem is we're not sure if they will step up or not, even if given the chance to play. Hopefully they will and it'll be a masterstroke by Klopp and FSG. Otherwise, we'll regret not signing another attacker or midfielder this window. Oh well. there's always that January transfer window if we really need someone.

{Ed001's Note - van Dijk and Matip back too.}

10.) 01 Sep 2021 09:53:12
I distinctly remember Mané and Firmino struggling to put away the most simplest of chances. That has nothing to do with defenders missing or midfielders playing outta position.

Jota didn’t take a while to settle in. He hit the ground running and was one of our best players early last season. His injury knocked his momentum. Don’t see how that impacts Mané and Firminos finishing ability and decision making in the final third which at times was appalling.

11.) 01 Sep 2021 14:12:37
Firmino's finishing ability is mid-table capability.
Without Salah's contribution, Liverpool will also have be mid-table, juts like Firmino.
Often said that Firmino's greatest contribution is linking up play, and not necessarily scoring.
The same was said of Heskey, linking up playing, holding the ball, occupying the defenders, defending from the font.

Bottom line, no.9 need to be like a no.9.
They need to score goals, like a Haaland.
If he could fetch us some money, I would have upgrade on him.

{Ed001's Note - and yet Owen will tell you that playing alongside Heskey increased his goal tally massively.}

12.) 01 Sep 2021 14:28:51
Waynechai, Salah himself has said multiple times along with Mane that without Bobbie facilitating them over the years, they would not be anywhere near the players they have become so how has Bobbie done all he has done if he was a mistake player?

“A goal scorer needs to score goals” if that was the case then your beef is with Klopp who discarded Benteke and let Studge go and chose to keep Bobbie? And comparing a true baller like Bobbie to Heskey sums up your rant perfectly.

Lastly, I propose you read the response Ed01 made to your comment. Priceless.

13.) 01 Sep 2021 20:20:36
Mid table capability striker who scored the goal that finally bagged Liverpool the World Club trophy.
Wayne if you think Liverpool should be ditching Firmino in favour of a "traditional no 9" then you've got no idea of how Klopp wants his team to play.

14.) 01 Sep 2021 22:48:00
A lot of people forgetting that the disjointed nature of defence meant the midfield (missing fab for most of it) was pulled back to provided added cover. Same for the front 3, they were often dragged back to create openings which made our attacks slow, predictable and ineffective.

It’ll be much different this year.

15.) 02 Sep 2021 09:57:50
Our 2 full backs were covering 2 inexperienced centre backs instead of joining the attack, that definitely had an impact on the front 3.

27 Jun 2021 19:09:09
Burnley making a move for Phillips Eds? Great move for him.

Jadon Havertz

{Ed002's Note - Nat Phillips (CB) Burnley are keen and Liverpool will look to cash in and hang on to Matip which seems like a short-term plan to me. Liverpool need to be careful over the asking price as they are now smarting from rejections from other clubs for players where they asre asking too much.}

1.) 27 Jun 2021 19:29:30
Ah by the time Matip goes Sepp VDB will be ready! perfect forward planning.

2.) 27 Jun 2021 19:52:00
Hope Philips goes on to great things! He was a Trojan for us I wish him nottin but the best!

3.) 27 Jun 2021 19:55:34
Not if we get injuries to Matip, Gomez, Konate and VVD, which is not beyond the realms of possibilities given last season and the injury records of messers Matip, Gomez and Konate. I think we’d be truly up sh*t creak without a paddle. Matip should be the one moving on. I’ll wager that Phillips will be flogged by Burnley in a couple of years time for £40m while we’re still rolling our eyes at Matip injuring himself tying his shoelaces in the warm up and missing half the season for it.

4.) 27 Jun 2021 20:00:05
Hope he has a great career. but that will only be possible if he makes a move! And we need the money its a win win.

5.) 27 Jun 2021 21:01:10
Jadon we need rid of Matip he’s a flake that’s what we need!

6.) 27 Jun 2021 21:13:32
I know that it’s pretty conclusive on these boards that we should sell Matip and keep Phillips - I agree too.

However, Klopp is quite adamant that he won’t sell Matip - the Ed’s have said so before.

It’s was interesting to hear that Matip is one of the leaders in the dressing room, and I don’t think any of us would argue that the only ability that Phillips shades over Matip is availability.

I’m therefore happy for Phillips to move on. I don’t think he’s a £40m player and his price won’t probably be higher than it is now. Thank you Nat and good luck for the future 👍

Btw, I can also see Van Den Berg stepping in when Matip leaves.

7.) 27 Jun 2021 21:19:55
Selling Philips would be a huge oversight, he seems pretty robust and we need a CB who stays fit. Honestly I am unsure ether Joe, Matip and VVD will be ready for the start in August, Philips has played so many games for us and I for one would feel very relieved seeing him start with Konate if our main CB aren't fit and aren't at risk of injury.

8.) 27 Jun 2021 21:30:26
Unfortunately we need the money and I agree his value is now at its highest. Klopp must be confident in his cb’s if he authorised the sale.

9.) 27 Jun 2021 21:32:15
To be a good professional footballer availability is definitely a trait required.

10.) 27 Jun 2021 21:35:45
Mark my words, two or three years of being Burnley’s defensive rock will earn him a big money move. There’s still a very competitive market for big English centre backs who stick their head on anything and have a slightly more agricultural approach, see Tarkowski, Keane, Mings et al.

11.) 27 Jun 2021 22:06:07
Why do Liverpool constantly balls up sales of players by over pricing them? It happens every season🤷‍♂️.

{Ed025's Note - its called greed barry mate..

12.) 27 Jun 2021 22:06:22
Matip is world class when fit, and likely not on huge wages, PLUS he was free. He makes sense as a back up/ rotation player as he is quite brilliant.
As for over pricing players, Edwards is going to need to bite the bullet a little in these times as we really do need a big clear out. JK has 3 years left and will not renew. If we want him to build the next phase of his LFC legacy before he leaves we need to be efficient and ruthless in the market.

{Ed025's Note - matip has never and will never be world class spaceman, a total flake who is out for 3 months with a headache mate...total fraud..

13.) 27 Jun 2021 21:47:28
Ed’s do you think it’s a case of no one is interested in matip or klopp doesn’t want to sell?

{Ed025's Note - there is definitely interest SR...from doctors studying hypochondria mate.. :)

14.) 27 Jun 2021 22:08:47
Hope the club have the foresight to include a 25% sell on clause then VVVV.

15.) 27 Jun 2021 22:37:36
All the best to him. Most improved player and biggest shock this season. Could be a move we come to regret but like the posters say we need the dosh.

16.) 28 Jun 2021 00:25:51
Spaceman is correct, Matip is a brilliant player, definitely one of the best cbs in Europe. Not his fault he keeps getting injured.

{Ed077's Note - you aren't serious right??

17.) 28 Jun 2021 01:02:30
Premier league is the best league. and WHEN FIT Matip is in the top handful of centrehalfs in it! top player despite what Mr Bitter says. dats why phillips has to move.

18.) 28 Jun 2021 02:31:48
If I knew that Matip was going to be injured for the next 2 years, I'd still prefer we sell Nat in the hope he finds a home as one of 2 first choice CBs and grow into his full potential.

19.) 28 Jun 2021 06:47:26
Can we see this from Phillips point of view? Phillips has had a taste of first team football so probably doesn't want to be 4th or 5th choice.

Let the lad go and have a decent career hopefully. We can reinvest the money elsewhere.

As for matip, he's definitely not world class and is probably our 3rd best defender, 4th if konate lives up to the hype. But he is great cover and due to his injury record, he's good for that role.

20.) 28 Jun 2021 08:03:24
Phillips is championship quality with the heart of a balon dor winner. Hope he smashes it wherever he goes but im not sure he's good enough for Liverpool.

21.) 28 Jun 2021 08:13:01
I totally agree B teeth.

22.) 28 Jun 2021 09:15:32
Phillips did well for us this season, and have proven quality at least over a short time. However I think we keep hearing about the emerging issue of HG quota. wouldn't Philips, Jones and maybe Willams be the ones to keep to bolster that quota?

23.) 28 Jun 2021 09:27:06
Matip is a top cb when fit, easily in the top 10 in Europe for me, I don't get people some days, he was absolutely quality alongside vvd when he was sound and fit, but granted those days are few and far between now, think ill have the opinion of my own eyes that watch every single game as opposed to a fan of another club who sees us now and then ;)
Phillips won't get many games if that lot are fit, good luck to the lad I say.

24.) 28 Jun 2021 10:12:28
U have to play to be the best a good game here and there doesn’t cut it! Matip is a joke along with Keita and a few other sick notes they need to be sold!
No more of this sentimental Carry on we seen what it done to us last season! Same 14/ 15 players dragging us through while the sick notes claim their thousands a wk and have there calf’s rubbed by Lisa in the physio room!

25.) 28 Jun 2021 10:32:02
There’s no doubt about the fact that Matip is a quality centre back when fit (NOT world class, that’s just ridiculous hyperbole), but there’s the caveat WHEN FIT. He’s injured more often than not so can’t be relied upon either as a starter or back up, I’m pretty sure he’s injured himself once during a warm up before a match, so really the sensible thing would be to move on the injury prone foreign player and keep the more durable home grown player.

26.) 28 Jun 2021 10:33:59
Matip is quality when fir, his fitness is his only issue, he’d walk in to almost every premier league team, as fans were quick to jump on his and Gomez back, both are top defenders and at the higher end of the spectrum when it comes to premier league defenders.

27.) 28 Jun 2021 10:42:52
No idea how some people think an injury prone player suits being backup - we really needed him last season but again he was hardly ever available. Yes he is very good but he's injured far too often.

28.) 28 Jun 2021 12:04:05
I'd opt to keep Phillips. No idea why we'd sell someone like him.

{Ed002's Note - Because Klopp wants to keep Matip and Liverpool need to raise funds.}

29.) 28 Jun 2021 13:04:30
Philips is also limited in his passing ability and not quick, he does not fit in with our style of play at all.
The 4 remaining CBs are about the best in the PL as a collective in my view.
Phillips did well to stand in like he did but I have always felt it’s best all round that he moves on.

30.) 28 Jun 2021 13:26:05
I don't get klopp back klopp himself was a player like philips. He saved our season last year. This is ridiculous
I have a shambles feeling about next season. Something is not right at liverpool. I have had this feeling since the esl fiasco. Something is very off.

31.) 28 Jun 2021 14:51:03
It took longer than I thought lol. Welcome back Harry.

32.) 28 Jun 2021 14:59:39
In fairness I have never seen anyone play with the passion and commitment towards the badge, if we had 11 players with Nats passion we'd win the premier League every year. For that reason alone he deserves a longer shot and for all the other reasons.

33.) 28 Jun 2021 16:19:06
Ed25 Everton have been a fraud for the last 30 odd years, yet the bitters still pipe up.

{Ed025's Note - bitters is not nice MR, you only call us that because we tell the truth about your lot mate..

34.) 29 Jun 2021 15:54:33
Sell Matip n keep Phillips. Matip can't play two consecutive games, the guy's made of plastic.

35.) 30 Jun 2021 11:00:11
ED25, so how does Matip having a poor injury record, have anything to do with his ability as a footballer? You do know that those are two separate thing, correct? Not saying he is world class BUT this strange notion that cos a player has a poor injury record means he is useless in terms of ability is just insane. Thoughts, Ed25?

{Ed025's Note - i did not say he was a bad player oli, hes decent enough but his injury record is woeful so not a viable option in my view mate..

36.) 02 Jul 2021 09:19:10
Selling Philips makes sense. He's shown the world he's good enough for a Premier League team, but realistically he'll spend next season not even warming up the bench with Gomez/ vanDijk/ Konate/ Matip rotating major league and cup games. Fabinho and Rhys Williams (who has also done well) will probably be more than enough CB cover in a non-freak season, you simply can't plan everything around the possibility of two first teams' worth of CBs getting injured all at once. Philips deserves a shot at a permanent CB spot in another PL team, in my humble opinion - and the money we'll collect from the sale will be hugely important in strengthening other areas of the team.

02 Jun 2021 08:10:23
Ed002 what are the possible ways if any, liverpool can sign Abdul Fatawa Issuaka?

Jadon Havertz

{Ed002's Note - They can sign him when he becomes 18. I have explained this - what is the issue.}

1.) 02 Jun 2021 10:05:09
No issue. was wondering if we could sign him now and leave him where he is till he's 18.Obviously we can't though, nice one anyway.

{Ed002's Note - No that would be illegal, as would dealing with his agent.}

2.) 02 Jun 2021 12:19:58
Oh OK, I read your post Jadon and was wondering if you were asking whether we could sign him on paper, Zoom, in person, pigeon or whether we'd need to get an engineer out to get the fax machine running again :)

3.) 02 Jun 2021 12:46:32
Abdul Fatawa Issuaka to join sporting cp on loan with the Reds striking a deal with the Portuguese club.

4.) 02 Jun 2021 20:17:38
Hopefully a sweetener for pedro goncalves.

5.) 03 Jun 2021 17:48:38
Konate, Daka and Goncalves
What a window that would be!

6.) 04 Jun 2021 00:16:45
I've got a triple glaze window brilliant for keeping the sound out and the heat in. Now that's a window👍.

{Ed0666's Note - you’re on fire lately Barry! Ever considered a career as Eds 001’s fluffer I mean warm up man

26 May 2021 18:35:06
Ed002,are we interested in Abdul Fatawa Issakaku?

Jadon Havertz

{Ed002's Note - Abdul Fatawu Issahaku (AM/W) Bayer Leverkusen are moving very carefully and slowly to avoid any breach of FIFA rules as the player is represented illegally by an agent due to his age and the have already spoken with FIFA, UEFA and DFB about being able to complete a transfer. It has been made clear that any direct dealings with the agent could result in serious repercussions and this has made the also interested Borussia Dortmund step back as they think that they would be in direct breach of FIFA rules. There is a potential exemption that Bayer Leverkusen could claim. I am not aware of any interest of Liverpool nor how they would propose to complete any transfer.
Milot Rashica (LW/F) A decent Grealish replacement if he can be persuaded to make the move. Injured right now but he can be sold as soon as the asking price is matched and he can pass a medical. RBL, Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen have a declared interest in the player.

05 Dec 2020 14:18:11
Koumetio withdrawn at HT for the U18's today. Supposedly with a view to getting a first team run out on Wednesday.

Jadon Havertz

1.) 05 Dec 2020 20:57:53
Fingers crossed that's true, don't want any first 11 defenders playing wed! Although we can't go to weak due to UEFA rules.

2.) 05 Dec 2020 22:33:05
We need to play the weakest side possible!

3.) 06 Dec 2020 22:27:17
I would give TAA 60 mins on Weds.

{Ed0666's Note - I would be tremendously surprised if Trent didn’t start and play at least the first half. Same with Keita and maybe just maybe the Ox. Billy the kid and Rhys Williams in the center and Tsmakis in for Robbo. Origi, Tiki, Clain, Clarkson and who knows the others...who cares. Just wrap the first teasers up in cotton wool.

4.) 08 Dec 2020 01:54:38
Any chance we can just forfeit the three points?

5.) 09 Dec 2020 14:01:35
I would go with

Kelleher
Williams
Williams
Van Der Berg
Tsimikas
Jones
Keita
Wijnaldum
Taki
Origi
Jota.

14 Aug 2021 11:40:19
Where did the Steadfast kid Abdul fatawa issuaka end up Eds?

Jadon Havertz

{Ed002's Note - Awaiting FIFA to decide whether to ask two questions. Nothing has changed as far as I know - it will be about timing.}

1.) 14 Aug 2021 12:56:34
Waiting until 18 to join us?

08 Aug 2021 12:40:37
So if Keita is the best player on the pitch again today with a week to the new season are we all going to start getting behind him?

Jadon Havertz

1.) 08 Aug 2021 12:50:46
Define 'start getting behind him'.

I'll always support a Liverpool player on the pitch, no matter who they are and what their previous performances were like. But am I going to start raving on here about how Keita is brilliant and this will finally be his year, based on friendlies?

No. I'm not. When he strings together some good performances in competitive games, then I'll start raving about him. I sincerely hope he does that.

2.) 08 Aug 2021 12:55:10
Keita played well in pre season last season. He just doesn't seem to be able to handle the rough and tumble of the Premier League. I hope it works out but the last few years with him have thought me not to get my hopes up.

3.) 08 Aug 2021 12:57:45
I’ve always supported Keita, however like every other player, when they don’t perform they get constructive criticism. Unfortunately for Naby, he doesn’t perform often enough. Let’s hope that changes this year.

4.) 08 Aug 2021 12:59:16
He obviously hasn’t performed at all as far as I can see and ideally we would cash in, but if he stays, I really hope he turns up this season and proves us all wrong.

For me, he never seems to work to his maximum and I don’t like that. Doesn’t seem to realise how special that shirt is. There must be a player I there somewhere.

5.) 08 Aug 2021 13:03:43
Well we'll see him competitively next saturday because on current form he's 100% starting.

6.) 08 Aug 2021 13:09:20
It is a friendly. Literally a friendly. Utterly meaningless in any context. Even accounting for that caveat, he’s shown nothing so far to make me think he’s worth persisting with as he still loses the ball too cheaply, doesn’t track back or press and holds on to the ball too long looking to do silly fancy tricks instead of passing the ball quickly and incisively.

I’ve seen enough over the last 3 years to convince me he’s not worth any further persistence as he’s lazy, injury prone and vastly over rated. If he’s as good as he and his agent seem to think, why isn’t his output or ability anywhere near the likes of De Bruyne or even Fernandes?

As he seems to think he’s an attacking centre midfielder, that’s his reference point.

7.) 08 Aug 2021 13:29:34
You may tell the big German VVVV he's quite keen on him.

8.) 08 Aug 2021 13:43:20
Vvvv obviously there is a player in Naby lad, let's get behind him. Klopp obviously likes him.

9.) 08 Aug 2021 14:00:48
If Klopps picks him to start the season, which looks very likely we should of course all get behind the whole team. The Dortmund Keita would make our first 11, will he ever reach that level in a Liverpool shirt? I bloody hope so.

{Ed077's Note - Dortmund Keita who? :-D

Keita seems to have lost the fire in his belly after securing the move to LFC and never rediscovered his form that attracted interest from the top sides. Now I dont think he is ever going to perform anywhere close to his best. He is another one for the "what could have been section" I'm afraid.}

10.) 08 Aug 2021 14:30:00
He lacks the heart, the fight and the desire to be even a mediocre player. In three years he’s shown nothing, been given almost limitless chances and every time he’s failed. Big time Charlie who should be shown the door.

11.) 08 Aug 2021 14:43:55
Seriously using friendlies to judge form?

12.) 08 Aug 2021 15:01:31
It’s tough to get out of bed and do roadwork when you’ve been sleeping in Silk pyjamas.
I think Naby once he knew he had the big money move to LFC in the bag and did the One year on loan, he just stopped trying. And now he’s, in my eyes, the worst midfielder we have and will be impossible to shift so we’re stuck with him.

13.) 08 Aug 2021 15:10:43
No I can’t get behind him it’s like Ed 2 says there’s something with his ethic.

14.) 08 Aug 2021 16:05:28
Dont be pretending like any of us know him, we dont! NONE of us. judge him on his fine form at d moment nothing else.

15.) 08 Aug 2021 17:45:10
Jadon, Voronin had a blinding pre-season. I remember him banging in 30 yard strikes… he goes down as one of our worst signings. So… just calm down dude.

16.) 08 Aug 2021 18:29:11
Another good run out today, long may it continue.

31 Jul 2021 11:00:28
For such a crap player Adama Traore sure does be of interest to some great coaches. Bielsa now looking at him. Its almost as if they think they could work with and coach the player to make more out of his obvious assets of pace and power.

Jadon Havertz

1.) 31 Jul 2021 11:11:46
Traore is not a crap player, do crap players make the Spain squad?

2.) 31 Jul 2021 11:21:25
If he’s fool enough to spend £30m+ on a forward who doesn’t score goals that’s his look out.

3.) 31 Jul 2021 11:48:38
Bielsa a fool? klopp too?

4.) 31 Jul 2021 11:48:55
When you think about it though, he’s probably the best Impact sub in the world. But nowhere near good enough to start. I imagine Klopp or Bielsa would make him a much better player.
I wouldn’t want him coming on against us for a top team after 80 minutes in the champions league at 0-0.

5.) 31 Jul 2021 12:20:54
pace, direct, can shoot and put a cross in.

has some good tools that can be shaped into a fantastic player, especially if he is dedicated.

6.) 31 Jul 2021 12:44:22
Am not sure he can shoot, he make Firmino look composed in front of goal.

7.) 31 Jul 2021 13:19:17
In fairness to Traore he lost Jimenez and Jota last season so that might have played a big part on his stats being low as it stifled Wolves massively going forward. The season before I think he got 9 assists and 4 goals. Not saying we should sign him but before we beat him with a stick from the comfort of our keyboard it’s always good to have the full story.

8.) 31 Jul 2021 13:41:00
The evidence suggests very strongly that he can’t shoot or cross a ball. 2 goals and 2 assists last year point to a a player with no end product. He is at best a “hit and hope” player who just puts his foot through the ball with no idea where it’s likely to go with no finesse or subtlety. If the argument is that he needs a target man for his crosses, then he’d definitely be a failure, as we have no centre forwards of that type here.

I can’t even see him as an impact player, if you stick him on in the last 10 minutes against a team parking then bus, all he’ll do is run into a crowd and lose the ball.

He’s certainly not a versatile forward, as all he can do is run very fast in a straight line if he’s given space to do so. Given that most teams park the bus against us, he’d be as useful as a concrete parachute.

I stand by my remark, anyone spending £30m+ on him is a fool. For balance, Dortmund signed Donyell Malen for £26m and he’s wide forward who scores and makes goals by the bucket load and will outscore Traore this season.

9.) 31 Jul 2021 14:05:54
Those are huge assets for beisla they way he plays. Traore makes sense for leeds. Especially as an impact sub.
But it won't really work for us.

10.) 31 Jul 2021 14:32:40
It's not that difficult to see what Klopp wants from he's forwards. Pace, athletism and work-rate. Coz this things can't be coached after that Klopp believes Traore can be coached others aspects of the game tho.

11.) 31 Jul 2021 14:39:11
If Bielsa is really interested in Traoré, then what's he going to do with Raphinha? They play the same exact position.

12.) 31 Jul 2021 15:20:31
I think Traore would be an excellent signing, he would be the sort of player Oxlade Chamberlain was before his bad injury.

13.) 31 Jul 2021 15:26:15
Them days are gone ArAy.

14.) 31 Jul 2021 15:53:36
Best impact sub in the world? To be an impact sub he would need to make an impact. I’ve only ever seen him come on at 80 mins then continuously run head down towards the corner flag and lose the ball.

15.) 31 Jul 2021 16:34:31
Lord forbid we ever did sign Traore, he’d be about the most unwelcome signing since John Barnes?
I like the guy, he definitely brings and adds to the squad.
His physicality and pace also allow us more tactical flexibility formation wise, especially when more numbers defending deeper may be a requirement.

16.) 31 Jul 2021 20:21:02
Don’t mention Traore in the same breathe as John Barnes. John Barnes was everything that Traore isn’t. He was a magnificent footballer who could do the lot, his passing, shooting, vision, awareness were second to none. He had finesse and gracefulness to go with his pace and strength. Barnes was world class. End of. Traore never has been and never will reach that level, you’ve either got it or you haven’t. And he hasn’t.

17.) 31 Jul 2021 21:28:43
He was, of course, VVVV.
But an old timer like you must be able to remember that a lot of fans did not want John Barnes at Liverpool prior to his arrival, some of the reasons being what is now said of Traore.
I think that Traore could do well under Klopp’s tutelage and in our team and system/ s.

18.) 01 Aug 2021 01:00:58
I wanted us to sign John Barnes because he was consistently Watford’s best player and probably the best player outside of the top four along with Beardsley, you can’t say that about Traore, Barnes always scored and created lots goals, again, you can’t say that for Traore. I was buzzing when we signed Barnes. Traore is nothing like that. Creates nothing, scores nothing. The only reasons some people (cretins) didn’t want Barnes was because they were racists, that’s how crap the 80’s were. Nothing more nothing less. There’s absolutely no comparison between the two situations because one Barnes wa an absolutely top class footballer and the Traore isn’t, period.

{Ed0666's Note - Barnes was a player who was as good as any winger at any time since soccer started. Wonderful wonderful player

19.) 01 Aug 2021 10:46:09
Mentioning Barnes and the dross Traore in the same sentence is a slap in the face of the absolute world class baller John Barnes was. Traore would do well to even have just the ability to carry Barnes’ toilet bag, football-wise.

23 Jul 2021 18:02:56
Its the Naby show!

Jadon Havertz

1.) 23 Jul 2021 18:23:20
This'll be his season I'm sure. Definitely this time. He won't stop trying or get injured again.

{Ed025's Note - i have heard ducks fart before SR..

2.) 23 Jul 2021 18:29:30
Player of the season so far.

3.) 23 Jul 2021 19:11:34
Here we go"This will be Naby's season"🤦‍♂️.

4.) 23 Jul 2021 19:17:49
Only as good as your last game Barry, best player on the pitch by a mile today! credit where its due and all that😉.

5.) 23 Jul 2021 19:18:09
Naby show? A few step overs is now considered a good performance from him?

6.) 23 Jul 2021 19:21:50
There is definitely a player in there, he just needs to stay clear of injuries. Problem is I'm not sure his body is capable of it.

7.) 23 Jul 2021 19:31:02
Yawn. It’s literally a friendly. Normal service will be resumed once real football starts. Needs booting out the club.

8.) 23 Jul 2021 19:31:06
JH I've run out of giving Naby credit.

9.) 23 Jul 2021 19:33:10
Usual from noby half decent pre season season kicks off window closes then the sick note we know comes back and it goes on and on and on! Usual crap he’s had his chance he’s done nowt for the club he should be volleyed out! But won’t he’s a klopp signing!
Worst signing we’ve ever made with money concerned!
Rant over.

10.) 23 Jul 2021 19:46:59
WY, it's more than injuries and fitness. He has to want it, and he has to put in the effort when he's on the pitch. He just hasn't done that, regardless of how long or how many games it's been since his last injury.

Ox is injuries. He comes back from an injury, he'll at least try. He'll run and he'll put in effort. Even if he looks lost on the pitch and all his touches are awful because of his lack of match practice, and even if he's sluggish with his running and turning because his body isn't right, he'll still try. Naby comes back from an injury, he doesn't try. He hides. Actually he hides even he's not coming back from an injury.

I'd say Ox did more in the few sub apps he managed last season than Naby's managed in 3 years.

And I sincerely hope that I have to eat every single word I've just written cos Naby pulls his socks up and delivers this season. But based on performances to date, I'm not hopeful.

11.) 23 Jul 2021 19:45:08
Any of you Mystic Meg's got tonight's lottery numbers?

12.) 23 Jul 2021 19:54:07
I'm going to love the hysteria in here when Klopp makes it clear that Naby is staying for this season at least.

13.) 23 Jul 2021 20:21:23
Naby has been poor in the past and his injuries have been probably the most frustrating out of any other player in the squad as they seem to be so minor and different every time which keeps him out for weeks / months. However I do believe if he’s still with us when the season starts then it’s a new season and a clean slate for him from me. Pointless letting my past judgements of him effect my future ones so the ball is firmly in his court. After all look at players like Lucas and Hendo etc. Once upon a time they were deemed not good enough and both are arguably legends in their own rights at the club. He needs a massive season and the ball is firmly in his court to produce it. He can either win the fans around or go down as one of our biggest most expensive flops in history. For the good of the club I know which one I want him to come out as. If he’s successful then it’s great for the team and club.

{Ed025's Note - you make a good point about keita JK, but then you spoilt it by saying lucas was a legend mate..

14.) 23 Jul 2021 20:42:40
Never tries on the pitch, hasn’t bothered to learn English, is injured most of the time, appears to be made out of glass, has issues away from the pitch (one particular allegation was particularly bad), is a big time Charlie, has not had one match winning performance his whole time here but I’ve seen loads of poor ones. I’m done with him, sell him, get the cash for him while he has any monetary value.

{Ed025's Note - not a big fan then mate?..

15.) 23 Jul 2021 20:51:30
Not really Ed. Does it show?

{Ed025's Note - i can just see you now VVVV, tying naby to a railway track while laughing and twirling your handlebar moustache mate...you vaudeviile villain you .. :)

16.) 23 Jul 2021 20:53:07
Again though, the difference is work rate and effort. Lucas and Hendo were never faulted for lack of effort. Even when fans who thought themselves very clever were saying they were useless, no one accused them of not being bothered. They were considered not good enough cos they weren't glamourous and exciting to watch. They didn't go around pinging 50 yard passes (although Hendo has since demonstrated that he absolutely can do that) or scoring 25 yard screamers with the regularity of Gerrard, or dribbling past people. But they ultimately won people over cos they grafted and were effective on the pitch.

With Keita, we know he has the talent. In terms of out and out technique on the ball, he's probably better than every midfielder we have bar Thiago. He just hasn't bothered his backside applying his ability properly for 3 years. I actually can't think of a player who's turned that around.

{Ed025's Note - thats a very fair summary mate..

17.) 23 Jul 2021 21:16:57
Don’t put ideas in my head Ed. Lmfao!

{Ed025's Note - love it mate..

18.) 23 Jul 2021 21:54:34
Judge by performance not likeability or injury record. Someone said "so a few stepovers means a good performance now? ". well its a darn sight more than what anyone else did. I'd go as far as to say that if Naby stayed injury free, therefore playing regularly he would start the majority of games for us. Now i also realise the likelyhood of that happening, about the same chance as Matip or Ox staying fit all season. But all i said was he was the best on the pitch today, don't think that's even in doubt.

19.) 23 Jul 2021 21:57:04
Just been announced he's injured again.

20.) 23 Jul 2021 22:03:17
That's a excellent summary especially of the two midfielder's SR👍.

21.) 23 Jul 2021 22:19:09
No barry, just suits your opinion😉.

22.) 23 Jul 2021 22:26:00
Ed0025 that’s why I said arguably in their own right mate. As I think some fans would class Lucas as a legend. Personally myself I wouldn’t but others do.

Something red you’re spot on mate Hendo and Lucas always tried and again it can be argued that Kieta hasn’t. My point was that they were under the cosh and turned it around so hopefully Kieta can. Fans didn’t judge Lucas and Hendo on previous seasons when they did turn that corner and the ball is in Kietas court to turn it himself this season. After all with us not having money to spend for whatever reason Kieta turning that corner is only good for the club otherwise we will be taking a massive hit on him fee wise.

This isn’t me sticking up for him or saying he is going to come good. It’s me saying for the good of the club and team I hope he does.

23.) 23 Jul 2021 22:34:17
Dont start talking sense JK23,doesnt go down well.

24.) 23 Jul 2021 23:17:52
If a few step overs is "a darn sight more than anyone else did" then the team is f*cked. He was neat and tidy in the 1st half just like Leighton Clarkson was in the 2nd half. Difference is Clarkson isn't a £50m midfielder.

25.) 23 Jul 2021 23:22:56
There’s no chance that Naby will pull his socks up, he’ll get an injury doing that. Stick him on eBay and let’s see what we can get for the waster.

26.) 24 Jul 2021 01:02:45
I’ve judged him on his performances, likability and injury record and his performances have been dreadful, he’s not likeable in the slightest and is always injured.
His career with us ended in that first half against Madrid, not that it ever really started. Can’t believe how dreadful a signing he turned out to be.

27.) 24 Jul 2021 02:35:08
Good from Naby. There's a player there. Hope he finds his potential and fitness cos he would be valuable player for us.

28.) 24 Jul 2021 06:20:15
Its a shame Naby season only lasts during preseason.

29.) 24 Jul 2021 07:08:04
I find it quite interesting that those sticking the boot into Naby have probably never seen him live. Now let’s get one thing straight, I’m not suggesting he’s consistently shown his worth because he hasn’t but…. there’d is a player
In there as some have mentioned.

There was a spell, a couple of seasons ago where has had a run of games and really started to look good, breaking up the play, moving the ball forward etc, he then broke down again and that was it. I believe the injuries have severely hampered his progress both physically and mentally. It’s a shame, because I’ve seen glimpses of what he can do.

30.) 24 Jul 2021 07:36:53
Drogie, it's the dependability from Naby is the problem. He wears red so when he plays I'll always hope he has a stormer. But unfortunately like Matip and Ox we're just waiting for the news he's out for whatever ailment it is this time. Would be interesting to see what he can do should he manage to keep himself fit but I wouldn't bet my house on it.

31.) 24 Jul 2021 07:51:51
Drogie u must of followed him in Germany to watch him live did u?
I’ve seen him twice live he’s a lazy b#%#%#%!
Not havin this there’s a player in there crap 3 years that’s been pumped out it’s boring now!
He done absolutely Notting us but cost us money he’s poison!
We all see glimpses of players doing sumthn it’s not enough 3 seasons mate he’s done F all! he's taking a slot in a team and it’s wasted nat Philips will be shown the door by the looks this summer he’s done more in 6 games then Keita ever has!
All for being a nice guy but get a grip mate the lad needs booting!
Watch us play Madrid again his last game if might help u.

32.) 24 Jul 2021 08:17:32
Like I said, he had a run of games where he actually looked like he was turning a corner, you probably wasn’t at those games then?

I’m not defending Naby but clearly his injury history has hampered his liverpool career.

33.) 24 Jul 2021 08:42:02
Klopp clearly sees something in Keita, and he isn't going to give a monkey's about the opinions of anyone on here.
Although I'd say if Keita doesn't deliver this season it will likely be his last, he'll be given chances to prove there's a player in there. It's down to him to take those chances, no matter how much some on here may squeal about it.
Last chance saloon for Naby.

34.) 24 Jul 2021 08:52:40
There’s not a player there. He’s lazy, ineffective, has no awareness of things going on around him, he a total lightweight, he makes Joe Allen look like Graeme Souness in comparison. He’s contributed the square root of sod all in the three years he’s been here and I’ve no reason to think he’s going to change suddenly. Should be sold at the earliest opportunity.

35.) 24 Jul 2021 10:09:43
Lots of great opinions on here and cracking debate. Unfortunately only one man and one man alone will decide if Naby has a future at the club or whether his career is over with us. And only reading between the lines it looks like that man Klopp is going to give him at least this season. So if we aren’t behind Naby we are against him. And that would mean we are against the team.

There’s quite a few players who need to step it up this season and if finances had allowed I believe a lot of them would have been replaced. But they can’t be so we might as well get behind them and hope for the best from them. Last season has gone. Even the guys who played well last season it means nothing in this one so let’s just at least give everyone a clean slate going in to prove their worth.

36.) 24 Jul 2021 10:39:25
Flash the red your right klopp does see sumthn in Keita it’s the £60m he wasted on him had the club pay over the odds for etc! U think klopp wants to be made look a mug he will give him all the love and chances he can till klopp gets his I TOLD YOU SO moment!
Well it’s not coming the player is dirt!

37.) 24 Jul 2021 11:51:31
He’s got two years left on his contract, he’ll stink out this year, then we’ll either let him leave for peanuts next summer or he’ll go on a free. A few fancy tricks in a friendly isn’t enough to make up for three years of dross. The man is all fart and no poo.

20 Jul 2021 20:37:30
Tsimikas did well today i suspect he's on Ed025's list of 20!

Jadon Havertz

{Ed025's Note - dont put money on it JH.. :)

1.) 20 Jul 2021 21:44:50
Right behind Townsend, Begovic and Gray I imagine 😂.

{Ed025's Note - you have to FORNAX, they are my team mate and i will support them through thick and thin...im still waiting for the thick.. :)

2.) 20 Jul 2021 22:20:19
He was playing some good football before he moved to us, klopp needs to show more faith in him and get him worked into the side. Robbo needs needs a rest also as it's a long season.

3.) 21 Jul 2021 07:03:52
Tsimikas did suffer injury issues last season - hopefully he ha sorted them out and gets to push robbo this year.

4.) 20 Jul 2021 23:21:39
Cos the thin is all Everton have given you for 25 yrs now, isn’t it, Ed25?

{Ed025's Note - it certainly is oli..

5.) 21 Jul 2021 08:05:05
Rafa still thinks its 2009 now he's back in Liverpool, HaHa.

6.) 21 Jul 2021 10:11:43
Lancastered, He’ll prolly wake up, realise where he actually is and jump ship before dawn at the first opportunity, like Carlo did.

By that reckoning he wasnt alone though Ed. Milner, Ox, Curtis and even maybe Thiago seemed to be behind Harvey in the pecking order. The kid really was flying.

Jadon Havertz

{Ed001's Note - Milner, Curtis and Thiago weren't fully fit, so that is not true. Elliott has been excellent, but the point is that a £50m+ man should never be pushed out of the team by an 18 year old when fit. Keita has been a poor buy and should have been dumped long ago.}
