Not sure if anyone has seen the stats for our away form . 3 wins 3 draws 7 defeats. At home 9 wins 3 draws and 1 defeat. Against the other top 6/ 7 sides including Newcastle our record is good so what is going wrong . the ability is there but weather it's desire or instructions to slow tempo at time and we can't get going after? I don't know but like everyone I'm sure will agree the ability is there to be doing a lot better though I do believe we are a couple players short of being able to win the league again???.

OP, to add to your stats even tho I’m not a stats guy, we have 100% win record after scoring first. When we concede first? We lost ALL but about 2 games vs Newcastle in a win and Brighton in a 3-3 draw. These numbers are fanning and way too inconsistent or “Jekyll And Hyde” to aspire to achieving anything tangible in the league, imo.

I do think in addition to what you have said, there is a level of confidence and self belief that is lacking severely. Whether it be in the players individually or in the coaches and tactics which they are being asked to play. Like you, I don’t know even tho, new players will help.

More and more it looks like a self-confidence thing, rather than anything else. After you beat your biggest rival (I wanted to use the word "destroy" but didn't), you would think that the players and team would be on cloud 9, and full of confidence. You would think the corner had been turned. But no, the rollercoaster ride continues.

If it's a lack of hunger, which could also be possible, then lack or full confidence is not going to change anything.

It's been weird alright this season, tbh bit like how we used to play for so many years before Klopp. Hit and miss against smaller teams, but managed to raise our game in the big ones

Honestly not sure if it's a change in tactics away from the energetic, pressing, quick tempo style to a more possession based one or player attitudes - probably a bit of both.

ArAy1969, I never thought we had turned the corner personally granted we have only lost one of the last 6 with 5 clean sheets with 1 goal conceded and 13 out 15 points won.

From 5,000 feet view of things that is not a bad return over a 6 game span BUT if you look at the actual internal stats like have been presented, it’s pretty grim. Over the season, it’s even worse.

I think we have confidence issues as well as a tactical setup issue cos some of tactics we have employed this season even at Bmouth beggars belief to the point that you start asking yourself what Da heck did the team work on during preparation. It’s quit maddening.

When you consistently lose the first goal, especially away from home, you are asking for trouble.
And invariably it usually and duly found us.
Factor in injuries, a lack of midfielder options and you can see why the away form was so poor.

Aside from the injury issues, and this change in tactics that clearly is a mistake. I think we have to question attitudes. The team as a whole seem motivated only in the "Big" games usually.

I've long said that in a lot of games we would go through periods of complacency and now it has spread into full games.

Also yes, question some decisions being made. After the first 15 minutes against Bournenouth we did not look like scoring, Salah had the poorest game out of the attackers, yet he was kept on. I know. he can in a minute do something. but sometimes it doesn't matter who the player is. if they are playing rubbish. take them off. it just has a even worse effect on the rest of the team.

I have blamed the tactics for most of the season OP, but we have showed recently that the ability on the pitch is there. The inconsistent performances, I. e beating City, Utd and being unlucky v Arsenal slaughtering Bournemouth 9-0!and Utd 7-0 when the latter was the in form team in Europe, all this says to me there is a laziness and attitude problem in the squad. Klopp needs to sort it out and go back to being ruthless, axing players if they are not showing 100% every training session and every game like he did at the start I. e by selling probably our best defender in Sakho at the time for poor attitude. Ali, Robbo, Nunez and Bajcetic are the only players worthy of the shirt right now in my opinion on effort alone.

I read it totally differently West. These players can raise their game at different stages and if things go their way are cable of beating teams by big scores. But on a week in week out basis the squad is nowhere near good enough and players are not as good as they once were.

If we started next season with the same squad and a better attitude, we would still be a long way off the top. Major changes are needed.

I think we need to stop confusing confidence with attitude. We play well against the bigger teams, yet seem to have totally dropped off against teams we should be beating. You can't tell me we are more confident against City than we are against Bournemouth? Its attitude. The attitude in some games has stunk. Drifting around the pitch, not tracking back, letting players run past as you just stop trying to keep up. Its happen time and time again but not in the bigger games. Arrogance and attitude are causing more issues than confidence. Beating United 7-0 gives you low confidence? No it gives you a lot of confidence, but if attitude and applicatiin are not there you end up loosing 1-0 to the bottom side the next game. Give me 11 players suffering with confidence issues but have a never say die attitude and apply themselves 100% game in game out over 11 players who are confident but just expect to beat " lesser " teams any day.

We have reverted back to the team that struggled against teams that sit back and counter.
I think that’s why we are doing worse away from home and against so called lower opposition teams, who are more likely to use this tactic against us.
I think with a new front 3 with a pretty awful midfield behind it we have struggled to break teams down and with Fabinho and our other defensive issues the counter has been particularly effective against us as well.
Throw in a devastating injury record and you have all the ingredients for our form dropping off a cliff.
I’m sure Klopp will address the issues before next season though.

Karlos, interesting that you brought up what happened within the first 15 mins vs Bmouth. It looked like we went in there thinking we’ll just try to get it done within the first 15 to 20 mins and then control the game and start making changes for Madrid cos we did well during that time span and then everything went dead.

They seemed to be shocked that nothing had happened and looked like they had no plan to handle a scenario where we did not make the diff after 20 mins hence, the frustration, poor play and stinking attitude.

I mean, Look at Salah’s pen. He missed it by a LOT and which showed a distinct lack of focus cos I’m not sure he even looked to see where the goal was before shooting. That’s how badly he missed. This lack of focus and concentration only seems to come when playing lesser teams which explains partly why we halos to near all bottom feeders away from home. Not saying I’m right but just giving my opinion.
