Quick post: I love Klopp

He is a club legend and I love how is handling this tough period. He is not shrinking one bit. He's made of tough stuff and he will get us through this tough period.

I think the first point there, a new SD/ DoF/ GM/ however you term him, will be announced, along with significant investment from the strategic partner they've been seeking (what's trending towards being a US media company), will both be announced over the next few months.

Then they can get on with early announcements of signings as soon as the year ends. Of which I wouldn't be at all surprised if two big ones of those are done already.

They know what they have to do. And it's going to be fun watching it unfold.

But before that's to come. Right now, we have 11 games left this season to get the maximum out of this year we still can.

That's ALL that matters at present.

With regards to Klopp, a man who has brought every trophy to the club, pivotal also in our rise up the “money ranks” and in reality has saved FSG from more vitriol - he deserves the opportunity to be fully backed in the summer and build another trophy winning machine. One poor season doesn’t define all that came before.

He is also spot on with the transfer policy - clubs like Chelsea, City and now Newcastle, their money gives them flexibility to make mistakes, but as Chelsea have also shown, it doesn’t give you a free pass to success. As Utd and Everton have shown £1billion and £750million of spend respectively, gets you little success and a lot of debt. Utd are an outlier as their global brand allows them a much higher degree of leeway, they won’t go out of business.

Spending aimlessly doesn’t guarantee success but to be successful you have to spend money.

Chelsea were not challenging pre Russian money and when City were languishing in league one it wasn’t by luck they have ended up dominating the premier league over the last few seasons.

Last time Newcastle were challenging or competitive in the league they were breaking transfer records and signing Shearer.

Heck even us it took a world record transfer on a keeper and defender to end our 30 year wait.

The 3 biggest spenders in premier league history are City, Utd and Chelsea and they have won something like 25 of the last 32 league titles.

Heck even us and arsenal will be up there as the biggest spenders in premier league history and Blackburn spent big to win theirs.

The only team in premier league history to not win it spending big money is Leicester. So I’d say they are the exception to the rule.

Arsenals net spend for the last 5 seasons is £485 mill and they are currently sat top of the table.

Klopps the best to happen to lfc in my 38 years supporting them. I'm certainly backing him to the absolute hilt after 1 poorly managed season out of 8.

Ed001 I’d like your opinion on this specific point I’m about to make if you don’t mind… klopp keeps saying x performance was unacceptable why is it that after that his team remains the same virtually? We all seem to agree Klopp is has been too loyal in terms of transfers and sales but is he also too loyal in terms of team selections? For me and I’m sure this point we will disagree on but for me Trent should sit and watch Gomez or Milner play right back for the rest of the season if they are fit enough to play so that he can be taught the desire and the interest in defending but there’s other players too Elliot salah and Trent on the right doesn’t work as none of them are defensively aware enough in my humble opinion. Fab has been better since he was dropped but I believe we are missing bajcetic.

{Ed001's Note - I keep seeing these whines about Trent, but he is doing as instructed. When people complained he kept showing Grealish inside, they were trying to put the blame on Trent, when it is clear that he was under instruction to do so or he would not have done it. No player shows an opponent towards their own weaker foot without instruction to do so. Especially when it is also showing them onto the opponent's stronger foot. When Trent is caught up field, the fault is again tactical.

It makes no difference who is picked, none of the players are fit enough or working hard enough and that is again the fault of the coaching team. Under normal circumstances, yes you would replace a player who is underperforming, but there are 7 or 8 playing badly and they are doing so because the tactics are failing.

As for the crap about Trent not having the desire or interest, that just shows you are listening to the wrong people, who have absolutely no idea about the lad at all. There is a lot of nonsense spread about him. He is there and in the team because of his desire and efforts to improve to get himself there. He was not the most talented in the group, but he put in the hours off his own back after the other kids went home to play FIFA on their playstations. He has the desire.}

I am with Ed on this one.

Thanks for the reply. I just don’t understand how he gets caught ball watching and walking so often as a defender when the opposition is in our final third? I’m not so interested in the letting grealish cut inside as as you said that could be tactical and grealish has always been a dangerous dribbler. I thought he was good as was most of the team in the first half v city but as soon as we went behind it was like the lights had gone out but I will allow that he’s made so many appearances due to lack of options maybe he’s fatigued or playing through something.

Good points ed1. I have questioned Trent myself and I stand corrected. If he's being asked to play that way then what's he supposed to do. If the tactics aren't working then the blame rests firmly with the management team.

{Ed001's Note - exactly. This obsession the coaching staff have with him cutting inside all the time is the first thing that needs to be changed. Use the lad to his strengths. Let him get down the outside and whip a ball in.}

Sorry Ed got to disagree with you on the Trent comments.

Nonsense, I can't imagine the coaching staff tell Trent not to bust a gut and run back when required.

Trent was breaking all kind of assist records when he had a player in front of him helping out Henderson doesn’t do that anymore and Elliott even less so. Get a good midfielder there and he’s back to setting up goals for fun.

There's a difference between having the desire when you're making your way through the youth ranks and having the desire when you've made it, are on six figures a week and have people kissing your backside for the last few years.

{Ed001's Note - you think that's what happens with Trent? Quite the opposite. He is constantly made the scapegoat, even by the national manager, and told he is not up to the job. But I am sure you know better.}

I do believe that TAA is good on the PlayStation. He could be a natural, though.

I probably know just as much as you Ed. We can only judge on what we see. Nothing I have said is false. Many people have waxed lyrically about him to an over-the-top amount over the last five years, even if there have been others who have criticized him. Many people have claimed he has been the best right-back in the world and he has reinvented the position. I can't say I know the guy personally to know what mind set he is in right now but can you? My point was that your anecdotal character portrayal you gave of him in the academy might not be all that relevant now.

{Ed001's Note - if you say so, it is a lot more relevant than anything you have said based on pure conjecture though.}

For the record, I don't have an opinion on whether Trent is a true professional or if it has all gone to his head. Like I have said I don't know the guy. My point is a lot has changed in his life as it does with most footballers. When people's fortunes change so drastically so do people. He might be a completely different person to the kid he was.
