Thanks for this ed!

Do you think you could write a short piece about how football found its way to Brazil and the rest of South America?

My dad always told me when I was a kid that Brazil learned football through watching Scotland and that was why their technique was so good ? maybe a tiny grain of truth in there somewhere.

{Ed001's Note - I can do that for you, though it might end up being a while before it is ready for you. I can do a quick summary for you though - it was British emigrant workers who took the modern version of football around the world. Dock workers, sailors, soldiers, students etc would all want to continue to play wherever they where in the world so would set up games. Locals would watch and join in and love it so much they created their own teams and league. The British didn't invent football as such, but the version we all play now they certainly did.}

Have you been to Brazil Ed? My friend and his wife toured South America a few years ago and said they did a site seeing tour in Rio I think he said and the tour took them to them types of areas that you see in the movie City of God where there is a lot of people living below the bread line. Seems a bit nasty to me to turn people struggling to survive into a tourist attraction.

{Ed001's Note - no I have never been but I lived next to a shanty town until very recently. I agree it does feel iffy but that might actually be a good thing as tourists spend money wherever they go. Even if they just give a handful of coins out it can be lifechanging to those in real poverty.}

They go into it in detail in a book about Italian football history called Calcio. Good read.

Sorry for my ignorance but didn't England create footbalI? Thought it was created in the Midlands area where local towns played a form of football/ rugby with the idea to place the ball similar to rugby.
After years of this style the rules changed and grew into today's game? Shortly after these new rules and styles of play the game turned profecionl.

{Ed001's Note - no, the Chinese were playing a form of football thousands of years ago.}

It would be interesting to see what the ancient Chinese version was like. Going to have to Google that now ed001.

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure anyone knows. Pretty sure the ancient Egyptians are claimed to have played a version. Certainly I do know Native Americans had their own version of footie.}

Ed01, and so did the Aztecs and the Mayans, apparently. As for the Chinese, any I saw this in a documentary about 20 yras ago about how the Chinese were reportedly playing a game very similar to footballa during that period. However, don't say of the above on Sky Sports cos that could get you banned.
