I know Rodgers likes to be superior in midfield and playing both Suarez and Sturridge upfront has it's benefits but I really think we've looked out best playing a 4-3-3 this year with Sterling on one wing and Suarez or Sturridge on the other (and obviously the other up front).

I think our pressing is better with it and I think with 3 forwards spread across the field it gives us more options upfield for quick attacks.

I know we haven't lost in the 4 games we've used the diamond (and have scored 14 goals) but I think today we saw how when a team really plays compact, we in turn are too compact playing the diamond. It puts too much pressure on the fullbacks to provide width.

Like I said, Rodgers likes to be superior in midfield, so against big teams the diamond may make sense. But I really think our default formation should be the 4-3-3 with Suarez-Sturridge-Sterling up front, Coutinho and Henderson at the front of the midfield and Gerrard in his deeper role.

One thing I find interesting is that for months everyone, myself included, thought we needed a midfielder. However now it seems like that could be the area we least need a player.

Since we've gone to a 4-3-3 with Coutinho in midfield we actually have solid depth right now with Coutinho, Henderson, Gerrard, Lucas and Allen. That's 5 guys for 3 spots. When you factor in potential young players like Suso and Teixeira, we could be in good shape. Think for next year we could potentially have Coutinho and Suso as the creators. Then Henderson or Allen next to that, Henderson if we want more energy and forward runs, Allen if we want someone who will more hold his position and help in possession. Then Gerrard and Lucas for the back of the triangle, Gerrard if we want a deep lying playmaker, Lucas a more traditional midfielder. Basically we may not need to spend any money on midfield this summer.

What's also funny is that our greatest strength clearly needs another player and that's in attack. The starting 3 of Suarez, Sterling and Sturridge is great but there is huge dropoff after that. Right now we have Aspas and Moses, but there is a good chance neither will be here next year. We need to add 2 more players to attack. One who is basically on the same level of our starting 3, so if there is an injury or a player needs a rest there is no drop off. Then we need another player to provide additional depth, although this potentially could be Borini returning from loan.
