Good morning all, Eds just heard from a friend who I fully trust that naby Keita is still very much a top target and negotiations will start shortly as emre can is now expected to leave. Do any of the Eds know if there is any validity to this rumour?

{Ed001's Note - the first bit is correct but not sure on the second. Last I heard Can wanted to stay, but that was before the season ended, so a lot could have changed, I guess.}

Thanks for the reply and info Ed, hope the latter isn't true but at the same time if emre can doesn't want to be at the club then I'd rather he went.

I'm pretty sure Can would want to stay but probably also wants to be starting rather than backup which could be the only reason I see him considering a move

I hope he stays though as I think in time he'll be a monster in the deeper midfield role.

Keita will not be a replacement for Can. If Can goes, expect someone like Paredes or Carvalho to be targeted. Targets like Keita and Zielinski will add options to our midfield, not to replace someone.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool cannot keep adding players without replacing players.}

Agreed ed but to be fair Lucas and Stewart will be gone as well as a few youngsters.

{Ed002's Note - The youngsters don't count.}

If Keita comes, we will have a surfeit of central midfielders.

The EPL is just a little too quick for Can. But he may do very well in Serie A. Good luck to him if he goes.

Do not agree that the EPL is to quick for Can. I think he could be a big player for LFC for a long time. He is one of the few players we have who can really handle the physical side of the game.

We better keep Can. He already more than holds his own and will only keep improving. If he were English he'd be the next big thing and rated at about 50 million. But yet he's German and therefore is probably more likely to keep a steady rate of improvement. Beast.

Can could be a really brilliant player for us. There are a few weaknesses to his game but all of which are teachable. He is built solid and can deal with the rough and tumble of the EPL.

Who cares how "big" he is? How big is Kante? He gets closed down easily, takes too long to release the ball, and doesn't have a lot of awareness of what is going on around him. He seems a nice lad. But we need better.

If all the additions are replacements then the depth of squad clearly does not improve. For me this is the thing missed in most of the conversations here and amongst our fans. I believe (and it is a personal view) that our best TEAM was as good as any of the top 6s best TEAMS, and better than most, but our SQUAD was/ is the worst of the top 6! So, Ed02 it may be true that financially that we can't keep adding without replacing but you can bet your bottom dollar that to compete for anything more than where we finished this year it is what we have to do. So if you are right then Houston we have a problem"

{Ed002's Note - You are making stuff up. I didn't say anything of the sort about money. You don't seem to get that the size of the squad is limited. It is absolutely hopeless explaining things over and over.}

Oh no I understand the squad number limitations possibly more than many but we named and played more young players that are not ready for the first team than any other top 6 team. Those guys don't need replacing. I was not making things up I was assuming, maybe incorrectly, but the case stands our depth need some to improve!

You reallly don't like anyone questioning your comments or judgements on these pages do you? It was not a criticism or a reason for argument it was just an opinion (which I referred to as my personal view) . I apologise if I assumed you meant it was financial and it wasn't but depth of squad is definitively an issue at Liverpool. Klopp got rid of a lot of deadwood last season, I assumed to therefore be able to add?!

Can has great hair, he should stay for that reason alone.

To be fair strength in depth dusnt nessaserily mean the amount of players we have it's more what quality we have in the amount of players we have so if we can replace a player for a better option then replacements make all the sense in the world.

I rate can and don't wanna see him go. I think he has a great future, and he's pedigree speaks for itself, representing Germany at every level from U15's to full international.
