I'm looking forward to flannaghan next season. I hope Clyne does leave Because we have a great lad in Flanagan . brilliant attitude and works his socks off. He has the ability and work ethic to be top class and is an excellent defender When he's fit and in form.
I also hope next season henderson brings his game up another level and scores a lot more goals.

Its great abd he is top but what if his knee goes again first game in?

We shouldn't buy to cover injuries etc but we can count on flanno yet. A season or 2 injury free of course we can but over the last 3 years he has had two big knee injuries.

Atleast clyne plays week in week out.

Clyne is a better player than Flanno - even the flanno of before the injury. Unfortunately, as always here, the players who don't play much are considered to be the next messiah. On what basis you argue that that Flanno is working harder than Clyne? At least during matches Clyne never stops runing end to end. In any case hard work cannot come instead of quality and Clyne has more quality and fewer weaknesses than Flanno. I like Flanno and maybe in the future he can improve, at the moment Clyne is better and Flanno is not a top 4 level.

Flanno all day long for me if he stays fit he plays. Positionally better not afraid to tackle and uses the ball well.
Clyne is a poor player and needs replaced imo he cannot defend or attack his only asset is his pace.

Fanobip, got to disagree mate.

Clyne is faster, fitter, can hit the ball harder and is stronger.

Flanagan has a better reading of the game, better tackling, better positional awareness, much better passing, more composure on the ball, better control and even a better cross.

Clyne is a terrible footballer. But he is a supreme athlete and he works very hard. To even jokingly suggest he has more quality than Flanagan has dumfounded me though. Fair enough, you are entitled to your opinion and I cannot tell you you're wrong. However I remember a stage of last season where for 4 games in a row the very first time someone played a pass to Clyne In each game he miscontrolled it and conceded a throw in. The 4th game I actually threw my arms in the air and went to make a cup of tea because I couldn't even cope with it anymore!

Clyne is in a different league to flanno who was given the run around against fleetwood and made 3 synical fouls all of which would've been bookings in a meaningful game. He can't even move atm and I've seen limos turn faster in cul de sacs before he was injured. He's far better at left back than right but still at his best he was close to clynes level there's no doubt but now it's gone like kelly.

Clyne is the better footballer, defender and athlete than Flanagan. I am quite sure that Flanagan would have been shipped off a long time ago if it wasn't for the fact that he is a scouser, and LFC are being held back at some levels due to this sympathy.

I don't think either player is good enough currently to be our first choice.

Flanno at the club as he is a very good player not because of where he is from.

I swear we have a Clyne debate every other day on this site. I've said it before and i'll say it again. Just because Clyne runs up and down the pitch should not fool anyone into thinking he is a good defender. Good athlete but Flanno is better then him in every other footballing aspect. Would not be suprised to see him replaced next season.

I want a defender to defend first and foremost. All pro's are good athletes but the basics are to defend. Flanno all day over clyne.

Only thing I worry is that we haven't seen Flanagan back at his best yet after the injuries. It varies for players also on how long it can take to rediscover form so I'm not sure if I'd have Flanagan as main choice yet. I'd keep clyne this season at the least until January and see how Flanagan and possibly wisdom progress over the next 6 months.

What has Flanagan done that people are jumping from their seat? He did by kick a ball while last season and he has shown very little recently. 2 years ago he was good that's it. The Planet revolved twice around the Sun since.
If He wasn't a scouser he would gave been shipped years ago.

Spot on dialkh2. I can only hope Ed001 is correct and Clyne is potentially getting replaced. I would actually go as far to say I prefer Moreno. At least Moreno can trap a pass. Neither can attack or defend but Moreno can do the basic of giving and receiving the ball!

I really like Clyne, but I just don't rate him at all. If all our players worked as hard and stayed as fit as he does, we'd win the league every year. But as I said on the Skrtel debate, giving 100% is a bare minimum I expect. Clyne relies too heavily on his athleticism to be a good player. He is the defensive equivalent to Shane Long. Quick, strong, never injured, more energy pound for pound than a bottle of Lucozade, but ultimately bang average football skills. It says a lot about his desire and effort that a player with such limited qualities made it to the top. In some games his engine almost makes up for his inefficiencies. But against top players he gets found out. Reus, Martial and Dennis Suarez are just a handful of players who ripped him apart last season.

Is Flanagan the answer? I'm not so sure. His quality is there for all to see, but he has been robbed of the little pace he had by these 3 years of crippling injuries, and his game has not had the chance to develop (due to the consistency of these injuries) for him to over come his physical short comings. I think he is a perfect back up to have. Passionate, hard working, a leader, will never moan etc. But he has a lot to prove if he wants to be our first choice. Either way, he is a better footballer and defender than Clyne for me. So I'll agree to disagree lads.

Agreed Taffy. Just to clarify as well, I couldn't care less about players being scouse. I'm originally from a poxy little town called Irthlingborough. What allegiance to people born in a city 200 miles from my home town do I supposedly have?

Brannagan is a Manchester United fan born and bred in in Manchester. So surely by this logic we should hate him and pull him down as a player. To accuse the club and it's fans of what is essentially positive discrimination is grossly unfair and total BS.

There has always been a sympathetic view towards local players at LFC at the academy level. Are you telling me that you have not noticed this? If you watch regular youth and U21 matches and follow their seasons, that much is plenty apparent. Rossitter and before him Coady and Spearing were viewed as the next Gerrard, Robinson, Morgan, Kelly etc are all recent examples.

I am not saying there is a clear or apparent prejudice, but that there is a strong inclination within the club to look for the next Gerrard, Fowler etc in local youth players who simply may not make that grade. And let's just be clear, I didn't "accuse" anyone.

Clyne is the right back equivalent of Downing.
Very limited in his ability, crosses blindly, misses obvious runs, loses his man all the time.

I'll take what his fellow professionals say about Flanno above any other opinion at this point.

For Suarez to dedicate space in his autobiography to him and state how difficult it is to face him in training speaks volumes.

He reminds me of Gary Neville, on the surface there is lots of limitations to his game but his primary goal is to stop his opponent getting past him, a commodity rarely seen in a full back these days. After this preseason with Klopp and the coaches I think we'll see him back to his best.

Im not convinced we'll see the best of Flanno, I really like the lad and his attitude is spot on but I dunno somethings not the same, we all know he's been out a long while etc but its like he's regressed to me,
But while were here saying whose any good and who isn't don't forget people have this basic function called learning, and i for one will be happy to see how all the lads go on after a full pre season with Klopp, I suspect a lot of players will be on thin ice throughout pre season games and we'll soon get to know whose going to fit the system and who isnt, I see Wisdom now looks like he's off again and at 23 I don't see him returning, he's definiteky trimming the squad bit by bit and I still think were in for some surprises yet.

As Ed has said, Flanno has physical issues that he's struggling to come back from due to his nasty injury. Whether he will come back the same or not, we don't know. We have seen what both Clyne and Flanno can do when fully fit and this is not even close, Flanno all day. Athletes don't make good footballers while good footballers don't make for good athletes. Also, if Clyne was that good, why is Klopp checking out other right backs in the TW?
