Why oh why are we not taking the £40m for Sterling? 1) he's not worth it, 2) he won't improve city but he will diminish their financials, 3) he really would not be missed on the LFC turf, 4) we could end up with him start of season and it be a disruption to squad. I can think of 5) 6) 7) etc all for but no against. Any light to shed re negatives?!

We are holding out for more.

I had this debate yesterday. I wouldn't be worried at all if he left especially at 40/50 million. However if he stays look at the competition he has for places this season, that can only develop his game. All the pressure of being the main man lifted off his shoulders, better coaches developing his game and better quality players around him. If he stays I again won't be too disappointed.

1) They will pay more

Why lose out on extra money that could, for example, cover Ings' fee, if we don't have to? Don't forget that Citeh are trying to stage payments to stay within FFP so, using a personal example, you'd expect to pay more for an item if you are spreading the payments than if you paid cash up front, right?

Whilst we have dithered in the the incomings market in the past (hopefully no more) we have seemed to extract maximum value from our biggest assets - Suarez being prime example.

Most of us here are not ITK and therefore only base our opinions on negotiations on paper talk and any other snippets gleaned from this site and others. We have to trust the commercial guys at the club that they know what they're doing.

And if the upshot is we have loads of incomings and Sterling STAYS (toxicity aside) is that such a bad thing from a footballing point of view?

Happy to let the deal makers continue negotiating and extracting maximum value - I fully expect him to leave, BTW!

He's going to be a cracking player let's face facts and get as much money as possible for him.

5.) 26 Jun 2015 12:08:49
You can only bluff so long when you don't hold any aces Mikey, were going all in with a pair of jacks, we will get our fingers burnt if we continue to push it.

6.) 26 Jun 2015 12:45:19
QPR are due their cut
We are in a strong negotiating position.

7.) 26 Jun 2015 13:54:38
Spot on Waro.

8.) 26 Jun 2015 16:27:58
Exactly, Waro! The club had better be careful or else City will back away and we will be in a world of hurt. Just take the offer and run before they change their minds. And NO, we are not in a strong position because you`re only worth what someone is willing to pay and if City think he isn`t worth what we want, they won`t pay and we`ll look like fools for it.

Some decent signings thus far. A solid striker now (Bacca appears the best of the few rumoured) and a wish to Brendon Rogers and his team for the very best for the season. I do really really hope he, and a few of the LFC fans out of favours, aided well by the newbies, make a lot us eat humble pie! Time now to get well and truly behind all at the club.

Have you watched Bogdan? Quality mate - I personally expect hom to be first choice not a replacement for Jones as most people that don't really know anything other than that he comes from the championship team about him!

Don't mistake me as some massive Brendon Rogers fan because I am not (not am I one of the muppet at united) but you are deluded if you think it is all down to the manager! He was also the same manager the season before and you are equally deluded if you think that was all down to Suarez! i'd love is to but we won't win the league next year and nor will Man U - but we will be competition for one another at a similar level of performance and expectation.

I think the real point here (and I say this as a long in the tooth liverpool fan that remembers the best days like they were yesterday) is that neither Liverpool or Man U are even close to Chelsea right now. If Stand-United wants to use his teams name in the same breath as Jose's outfit then really that is delusion. To also be happy with 4th on any continuous basis is not the DNA of a fan of either of two clubs that have seen so much more albeit in the past! No, I want 1st and only 1st for my club but I understand that it is going to take a build to do it, a volume of young prospects with some lessor levels of older statesman required to help along the way. Man U is not any different, they are "way behind" being the best and are (I hate to say it but) far more comparable to us right now than Chelsea even Man City or Arsenal. Last year they came 4th and if you come 4th you deserve 4th but that can easily turn like it did the year before. I'd not put any decent money on it being a swift upturn though, maintained then over a good few seasons. No they need to build just like us and they need a manager that can do that too - currently they don't have that either!

Ok I give up too! I don't know you and therefore not familiar with the level and span of knowledge you actually have (including, I recall, purported French National Team knowledge as to why Payet doesn't get a chance - a player that has been accepted well at West Ham) but I personally do have some knowledge myself around the subject of our discussion yet seem to be knocked down in conversation. Ok let's move on! I.

RedSid

{Ed001's Note - purported? Oh for heaven's sake! I give up. You really are making yourself look stupid now. I won't waste my time on you again, you are admitting ignorance, but still want to try and make out you are in the know. This is like having a discussion with Harry or a brick wall.}

Forgive me also for questioning your knowledge of the contract but unless you are part of the LFC legal team I expect that you know not a great deal more than I about it? ! My humble view is that if the contract was as straight forward as you suggest in the "with the view to buy" area then it is a totally one sided contract. Loan deals are never written I such a way that the loaner club has no benefit and so there is either a over inflated buying value or an opportunity for loaner to retract. Otherwise it is not just half the squad needing to be replaced but the legal team too! Ok so we get his wages paid but we'd have done that if we had just sold him - there has to be a reason we never? !

RedSid

{Ed001's Note - I give up, you have no idea what you are talking about, this is just pointless. Humble is not a word you understand. One sided? He wanted out, do you not understand??? Or are you going to give me more of your clearly ignorant bull about no such thing as one sided contracts?}

My point is we have Sakho! On the player front I would be thinking Sakho yes I could work with him, Skrtel hmm I can replace him and I am not getting my chances here. On the club front I would be thinking get a feel for whether Villa are really serious about this guy or whether actually we can take back and view. It really is not that much money you are talking about when you consider the less than gambles we have made recently - the Balo' debacle, the Markovic debarcle, need I go on? That is my point!

RedSid

{Ed001's Note - except you are saying we should just carry on spanking money away because that is what we have done in the past. Makes no sense whatsoever. I would like us to learn from our mistakes, not compound them like you are asking for. We are in huge amounts of debt, we need to cut spending, not increase it.}

That seems a bit odd Ed? ! If I were Klopp and I wanted to see all the players and they were not getting time on their loan then I'd enquire about a breakage. The man must have seen footage of the U21 Euros until he got injured to see it is with looking first hand. Even get over to an AV reserve game or something like that? ! Also Players sentiments regarding clubs and leaving / staying often change with new management and on the reverse to the point I make about Klopp putting himself out to view surely a player who has yet to really break into first team football consistently surely he would like to impress in whatever way he can? !

RedSid

{Ed001's Note - how is it odd? It is not as simple as you are making out. Villa have paid money for a contract to take him on loan with a view to buy, it would then cost us money to buy them out of the contract and we would then have the lad's wages back on the books too. So it is a lot of money being spent merely to have a look at a possibility. As for get over to a reserve game, do you not think he will do if he can, or at least get someone to check him out if not? I don't see your point there. It was just that the level of those games is no indicator of his ability. It is impossible to judge an on loan player on a reserve game appearance.}
