Ed002 are Rb leipzig interested in Naby if so they must have had a change of transfer strategy signing Timo and then going for Naby I thought they never signed a players of there age?

{Ed002's Note - Whilst RBL do focus on signing younger players there is no policy that I know of that excludes a 26 year old Werner. I am not aware of an approach to Liverpool about him but his agent may have spoken with them.}

Whatever we get for Naby would likely be used as his replacement. With 2 weeks of the window to go and only 12 months of his contract left it’s safe to say we don’t hold the cards in any kind of negotiation.

We paid 60 for him and I think we would be lucky to get 20 in return.

Our scouting / financial team haven’t identified any midfielder who is suitable/ available this window apparently so I’m not sure how many doors the little we get for Naby will then open.

If the club had bit the bullet first we could have sold Naby first few weeks of transfer window for 20 and replaced him with a Bissouma for a 10 mill outlay.

I hope he has, rather an under U18 lad gets Nabys spot, worse signing of the Klopp era and will be glad to see him go.

Would anyone pay his wage demands?

JK, I think the situation may have changed a bit, klopp clearly likes him and if rumours are believed he was offered a contract.

Again if rumours are true, he isn't happy with the proposal and wants more. So now we have a choice, keep him and let him walk out the door for zilch or get back what we can and source a replacement

Now we have a player who wants to leave who has some value maybe that will open up a few doors for potential replacements. As we will have incoming funds and spare wages from his departure.

WYred cheers for the reply mate. The reports I’ve read are he’s not happy with his playing time situation mate. But again it’s all speculation I suppose. Since he’s been here I’ve tried to support him best I can but I’m not too bothered If he leaves. Only concern for me is whatever we get for him will likely be our budget to replace.

It depends, and this is purely hypothetical to illustrate my view.

We may have in the budget say 20m but there is no one out there for 20m that we want or is suitable for the squad. So sell naby at 20m and that becomes 40m and all of a sudden something can be done.

Rather then being a like for like it may open up a few opportunities we aren't aware off. I know we have been interested in a few midfielders this year, and maybe this is the cog that allows it all to move.

Personally without knowing any of his situation, I think it could be a mix of money, life in Liverpool and not getting his position nailed down (mainly his doing) . But if he does move all the best to him and the club moves on.

WYred. Could be mate. Sander Berge is the new link on sky sports. So if we sell Naby and buy him at least our net spend will be in the black.

Imagine paying the release clause of £35m for Sander Berge (who has largely been fairly mediocre and injury prone for Sheffield United) when Marheus Nunes was available for not much more. What a time to be alive ?.

I believe LFC have shown interest in Berge in the past. That's an interesting link. I wonder if there's any truth to it.

6times, if that's who the club want we have to back it, they rarely get it wrong. We have had the likes of Robertson who the majority lambasted when mendy was talk of the town and that turned out OK.

Reviews say he is playing way below his level at SHU and with better players may turn in to a shrewd acquisition. Nunes may of been seen as a risk by the club as they weren't sure how he will adapt, only time will tell on that one.

While others are spending what are we doing, selling squad players just to fund young players.

If the right player is available at the right price I don't have any doubts that the club would bring someone in, most likely a midfielder.
Even if it is more than a rumour and Keita wants to go, I can't see the club sanctioning that unless a player of that profile is available before the window closes.

WY we do get it wrong and we really shouldn’t be grandstanding ourselves on being gurus in the transfer market as that’s not really true, Balotelli, Markovic, Keita, Ox, Karius, to name a few big fails. The only comparison that can be made between Berge and Robertson is that they both play or played for relegated clubs. That’s where the comparison ends. Robertson was a stand out performer for Hull week in and week out both in the championship and the premier league anyone with two cents could see he was a bargain. The same cannot be said of Berge who has been far from a stand out player and has been plagued with injury problems his whole career. If Naby Keita is inconsistent and injury prone, why bother going for someone who has the same issues but with the added bonus of being slow and and so immobile that he has the turning circle of the QE2.

Using balotelli and markovic as examples seems a bit harsh. Under klopp the majority have worked out.

And as for Robertson, hindsight is a wonderful thing and you may have called it right.

However the majority on here wanted mendy instead and though we were shopping in the bargain bins (generalising it was a long time a go) .

Got to say I completely agree with 6times also. Berge? I don't get that at all. Nunes should of been bought regardless of keita going. He is going to be a sensation in the prem. If berge is all we are looking at. its like ben Davies all over again.

Ox was a big hit until his injury, he gave us what we have lacked for a while, goals from deep.
