Hello ed002 hope you're having a nice day. just a quick question. is Ruben Neves of interest to us in this transfer window? Would be a good addition if it could be pulled off as we're desperate for someone who can keep the ball .

{Ed002's Note - Ruben Neves (DM/CM) Wolves would look to get €50M should Neves be sold, and they may be more accepting of that now. Mr Mourinho is a huge fan and has tried to take him to three different clubs in the past - and he would, I am sure, be interested in taking him to Roma but their focus right now is elsewhere. He has always been seen as an option to replace Matic at Manchester United, but they have didn't act at the time and other priorities to deal with first and preferred options - although Wolves might see an offer if other options do not come to fruition. His agent has been actively offering him around and has spoken with Juventus who are looking to offload players but none that I would expect Wolves to be interested in. Newcastle have a declared interest. Prior interest of Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal has likely gone. Chelsea have other targets. There has been a discussion with Barcelona - but there is a huge difference in valuation. Barcelona will look to include players in any deal - one of which, Nico Gonzalez, could be very interesting to Wolves in the summer.}

That bald guy on sky makes some decent points. If we buy a player in January we don’t necessarily want as our top targets are not available we won’t have enough money for our top transfer targets in the summer.

Picture going round of Salah with PSG owners. It’s Recent also. No idea why tho ?.

I don't really agree with that guys argument though Warmachine, because if we wait until the summer it looks like we'll miss out on CL football, and then there's a chance our main targets won't be interested, but even more significantly we'd definitely lose a huge percentage of our revenue.

If we signed a player like Neves for €50m, at his age he'll retain that value (as a minimum) for a couple of seasons, but also very possibly increase in value. So there's always that possibility to recoup it in a future window if he's not Klopp's first choice. I'm not saying it has to be Neves by the way, just used him as the example. Although I do think he's a good player who'd walk into our midfield.

It's all immaterial really because Klopp doesn't want to sign anyone.

We could sign someone and still miss out though especially if they are not a top target. Klopp thinks he can fix it with the players he’s already got / coming back from injuries and tweaking the tactics. Hope he’s right.

@MK, I think there is obviously a desire for some players to want to play in CL, but I honestly don’t see why that means all players wouldn’t want to play for a club not in CL. I’d say it would depend upon the motivation of individual players, maybe they want to play for a particular club, maybe a particular manager, maybe for a club as a stepping stone to grater things (perhaps based on a guarantee of a starting spot), perhaps they just want the biggest pay packet they can get, perhaps the clubs they want don’t actually want them.

Obviously in life things are usually a bit more complicated with heaps of different factors but I think there are enough quality players on the market - particularly in the summer window, for us to be able to get players who would be closer to our first choice for a role / position.

As an aside I think that makes the Diaz and Gakpo signings interesting. I think. (Just an opinion and not solid evidence) that they were both bought ahead of schedule as we risked losing both of our (following summer) targets in the winter window. I think we might do the same again for, say, a midfielder if the player was willing to come, his current club was willing to sell and a sensible price could be agreed, again just my opinion, no hard evidence, although the club’s official stance would suggest the possibility exists.

War Machine, you need to realise some of Klopps best signing were not his preferred targets.

The likes of Alisson, Salah and Mane were not top of the list but they still did a fantastic job.

I agree totally WDW players have all kinds of reasons for wanting to sign for a club. There are loads of top players that would want to sign for Klopp or play in front of the Kop regardless of us having one bad season because they would expect us to get back there anyway.
I still maintain that Bellingham is coming in the summer. Everything I’ve seen with his body language at the World Cup just confirmed it to me.
They can’t blow £50m on a midfield player now because if it doesn’t work we can’t afford Bellingham and he’s not moving until the summer.
Short term pain for long term gain.
(Disclaimer - I don’t know this it’s just a feeling I get in my waters)

I think that there’s a lot to be said for “letting go” of this season - a lot of the recent negative stuff has just been anxious people rationalising that we aren’t going to win anything this season.

If people accept that we aren’t going to wnything then it’s easier to take the pressure off the squad and work through the rest of the season getting up to speed for our tactics for next season. I think with the pressure of expectation removed the team might actually regain a bit of confidence and start to look like their true selves. I also think that, rather focus on signing ‘big names’ we actually look to recruit players who would want to play for Liverpool and who would fit into the system we want to play and who have the character that we want for the squad. Some players would be costly, some players not so but at least we’d have players we want and who want to be here.

I've said the same thing, War Machine.
And I'm bald, as well.
