Don’t you think it’s possible we’ve been played and Caicedo and / or his agents deliberately gave LFC the impression he was likely to sign so that we would bid which in turn would force Chelsea to make a move?

Am I the only one who doesn't think it's such a big deal? Bid accepted so we can speak to the player officially to try agree terms. 99% not happening.

Bayern must have bid three or four times for Kane before a bid was accepted and then it came out that he was more likely to stay and see out his contract with Spurs. I can't imagine Bayern were embarrassed, they would have just switched targets and that's it, try sign someone else.

I don't think it was deliberate but maybe we bid for Caicedo as Chelsea showed interest in Lavia who we had been pursuing for months. This whole mess has been a bit shambolic today. We've missed targets before and will again. Move on and find a better fit for us now. Whether that is back to Lavia and pay the fee Southampton now want or Gravenberch or someone we haven't considered.

Can I add my thanks to the Eds for the amazing job you do here, putting up with the constant questions, frequently repetitive as they often are. I have been a long time reader and watcher for news here and couldn't imagine a transfer window without this site.

There is no benefit to Liverpool bidding for Caicedo if the player only wanted Chelsea as it only drives up the fee and makes striking a deal harder, how it could be argued that a bidding war helps a player if he only wants one club is madness! The player must have indicated a willingness to move otherwise we ain’t bidding a transfer record fee without sounding out the player and his agent. At the minute it’s all media speculation as to what Caicedo wants so take it with a pinch of salt. Also worth remembering that he wanted Arsenal 6 months ago! He wants the best deal it’s rather simple and is probably sitting and waiting to see if Chelsea come back in with a better offer….

Yes CobraCraig it looks like Kane is going to sign for Bayern, hence why I used past tense in my post - he initially sounded hesitant.

The annoying thing is if we were to get him now after today’s debacle he wouldn’t be welcomed as readily as if none of this hearsay (as of yet) had happened. There would be a feeling from the off of him not being fully committed, whether any of this has truth or not.

Best thing now is for Chelsea to have a bid accepted and then he chooses. If he chooses Liverpool after all that then we likely know how full of rubbish Romano et al are. If he chooses Chelsea then it goes as expected.

I’m thinking this Caicedo bid may be a smokescreen! Did Pool know he only wanted Chelsea so put that huge bid in knowing he wouldn’t come? Did the owners do it to keep the fans quiet? Was it revenge for outbidding us with Lavia? If Chelsea sign both this is embarrassing for us and a complete joke what they’re doing with the FFP rules! If Pool don’t spend that £110m it’s going to look like it was all fake!
