Morning eds, you've talked a couple of times about ljinders influence regarding the tactics, just wondering how this will play out long term. Please could you give us an insight to the role of the assistant i didn't realise just how much 'clout' he would have in convincing the staff and the squad to move in a different direction or does he see this as us evolving.
JK is one of the best coaches in world football he will be able to see that this is not working, how long will he percivere.
Even when a meagre supporter with no knowledge of the game can see that the tactics and system have changed and its not working then JK will have seen a hundred things more.
This is not the time to throw the players out of the door
Thanks to all the eds for everything.

{Ed001's Note - it varies at every club depending on how they are run. Klopp has taken a step back in the last year or two, probably due to the stress of the job and to keep Mrs Klopp happy to allow him to carry on managing. He has become more of a manager, similar to the way they used to work, probably Fergie is the closest equivalent and it seems he is working in a similar way. Though Klopp is still on the training pitches each day, whereas Fergie stepped back completely and gave his assistant the reins.

It is clear that Klopp identified problems with the team and the way we played, which is what he is looking to fix. Klopp was bombarded by the media and social media too, all telling him that the high-intensity style was too much and that we needed to have more control over games. So he is attempting to fix that and have a more controlled style, putting Thiago in the middle was the first step. Now the change in style of play is the next step.

That is the style Lijnders has always wanted, it was what he looked to play when he was in charge and it never worked then. However it doesn't seem like he it has hit his confidence in his beliefs, nor made him reconsider. That is a problem, it shows an extreme arrogance and pigheadedness, of the level of someone like his namesake Pep Guardiola. Except that Guardiola's came about due to having extreme success with it, whereas Lijnders has not. However he has talked a good enough game to convince most of the world that he is right.

The problem is that the message that Klopp's way of playing was not going to bring the success he craved and that Lijnder's will was reinforced by last season's results. That has made it feel like the new style worked, as we come so close to winning everything using it. For me, I believe that the style was the reason we failed to win the Champions League, rather than being the reason we got so close. I have no idea whether Klopp will ever see it that way while being right in the middle of it all. It is much easier to see changes necessary from a distance, which is why consultants can be so helpful to companies at times.}

with that in mind would Klopp not look to outside help - I don't mean a new assistant (although I think we need one), but to discuss with someone he knows and trusts who is outside the tent i. e. Buvac or someone? Im sure he's looking at this rubbishshow and can ee exactly where we are failing.

{Ed001's Note - I hope he will but it is difficult in his position to find someone you can trust.}

would Buvac return do you think? . if asked.

Pep was the best thing since sliced bread before according to you Ed.

{Ed001's Note - I have never said that. Why lie? In fact don't bother replying, I have no interest. Troll.}

If the issue is as fundamental as that Ed, I do worry rather more.
Klopp is exceptionally loyal and not given to sacking / demoting his staff.
To do so with Ljinders would be hugely problematic.
The control type midfield works if you score first, your opponent cedes possession and / or your forwards are clinical on the counterattack.
Go two up and the control game is ideal and perfect for a long domestic season.
We’re not doing any of those things above - routinely going behind first, getting pressed sometimes (Leeds were excellent and very brave last night) and not putting chances away.
In the past, however, the team had the ability to go up several gears as the match demanded.
Now it’s like we’re stuck in a low gear.

If taking a step or two back is the only way we can keep Klopp at the club then so be it. But he's got to be able to see that those below him are not getting the job done.

It feels like the team is under a general "hangover" from the highs of last year. Once again something the coaching staff should have recognized and dealt with. And if they're not competent enough then their heads should roll as much as any player's. This is all still at Klopp's doorstep, whether he likes it or not.

Juicer, normally you would think that, given Klopp's record in terms of loyalty. But let's look at what happened with Buvac. After 16-17 years together, they could not work together anymore. People say he left, but I say he was forced out because that's how you convince people to leave (by sidelining them) . I think Klopp is capable of getting Lijnders to leave if that is seen as the problem point and above all, if he is convinced that it is.

I don’t know ArAy.
But it does seem as fundamental a moment in modern LFC history as some of those in the past - the cup defeat at Watford in 1970 or the defeat to Red Star Belgrade in the 73 European Cup.
The kind where, in 20 years time, you look back and pinpoint?

Without wanting to cause controversy Ed001. You did suggest Pep as a successor to Klopp and that's not a problem to me, that was your opinion and you're entitled to it like everyone else.
The reason I remember Ed is because after you suggested it a lot of posters jumped on your bandwagon ?, and when you suggested Pep might be an issue with our current problems, again some posters jumped on your bandwagon ?.

{Ed001's Note - no I never, I said that was why the club brought him back. I never said I wanted him to be the successor. Quite the opposite, I have always said he needs to go out and prove himself first. Never once have I said I would want him to be the next man, I always said Potter was the one I wanted.}

You could be right, Juicer; it could turn out to be a pivotal time, but nobody knows at the moment. What I do fear is that FSG will not look at it lightly if we don't make it to top 4 and have to forego that potential 50-60 Million from the UCL. My sense is that these owners have always looked at finances first, and everything else after that. You can forget about players wanting or not wanting to join the club (when I think it is now a pressing need), because FSG won't spend the money to begin with, if they don't have a clear view of the revenues coming in over the next season.

Edd001 why do we get cut open soo easily through the middle?

{Ed001's Note - because there is no press and a lack of organisation at the back instead. If you aren't going to press, then you need to be organised to close off spaces and track runs, but we have no organisation at all. It is a shambles.}

{Ed001's Note - I think Ljinders would be the right choice, as things stand. Not just does he understand the club and had involvement from top to bottom, but he has also been elsewhere to learn about the game, giving his own perspective, views and ideas. However, we don't know who would go when Klopp goes and we might have to replace a whole slew of staff. }.

{Ed001's Note - I honestly don't remember saying that, as I have always favoured Potter. But it did say as things stand, which means it was in relation to a specific circumstance, rather than it is my ideal choice.}

Nagelsmann if he becomes available and Frank if he continues taking Brentford foward are my preferred long-term Klopp successors.
